And the Award Goes To...
Hiya Hunnies. Let's talk about the Oscars.
Coco won for best animated feature film.
Dear Basketball won for best animated short.
The abusive mother from I, Tonya won best supporting actress.
Apparently, the Shape of Water won best picture.
Yeah, I don't care. What I actually thought was the best award of the night was the Best Foreign Feature. And guys, there were some cool films. Lebanon had this intense revenge story, and I can't find anything about the rest. They're not important. What's important is what won.
A Fantastic Woman from Chile was the winner. I guess even though Chile is supposed to be sh*thole country, their film industry is solid. All politics aside, this win deserves to be in mine (and other LGBT books) because of its subject. The main character is a trans woman. It was based on the actress playing her, a trans woman. Daniela Vega Hernández, the aforementioned actress, made history as the first openly transgender person to present an award.
It's a small victory, and one that seems late for our current world. But it's a victory none-the-less. We should celebrate these small moments of positive representation and visibility.
The trailer for A Fantastic Woman is up above.
