My head is fuzzy, my mouth feels like it was full of cotton. I can hear a slight but noticeable buzzing. I tried to lift my head and realized that I was strapped down to a hard, cold surface. I opened my eyes and could only see a white glaring light. Then the voices started. Where am I, what am I doing here? What's happening?! Where's Kevin?! Where did they take her?! I'm going to die aren't I?! 

They were like whispers in my head, faint and fleeting, I can't tell where they were coming from, my head feels like it was swimming in a sea of voices. It's too much, I need them to stop. It seems only seven then survived this trial. Hmm that's a shame. One voice seemed louder than the rest, I focused on it to block the others. Now let's see, I think they're ready for stage two, said the voice. 

A shadow appeared above me, I squinted trying to make out the face. I felt a small hand on my inner right arm then a small prick. Suddenly, my body felt as though it was on fire, my muscles seized up and the darkness returned.

I opened my eyes, then groggily sat up. Running my hands through my mess of brown hair, I looked around at the scene before me. I was in a bare storage unit, lying in a corner. Squatting beside me was a black haired girl that looked so familiar, she had brown eyes with flecks of hazel in them, she was dressed in a black shirt, red plaid skirt, leggings and her usual black combat boots. 

Wait how did I know that? 

I think I also know her name, it's on the tip of my tongue. "Kelly?" Her eyes light up,"Yes Devin, it's me what do you remember?" "Nothing really just.. Wait, I can't remember anything! I don't remember my family, my home, I don't even know my age!" I shouted. 

"Damn, looks like all our memories are shot ." said a voice from the left corner. Thats when I noticed the other guy in the room. He was in khakis, a yellow polo, and dress shoes. He was tall, with shaggy blond hair, and green eyes that were illuminated by the ball of light in his hand. 

Wait, how was he doing that; it was about the size of a softball and a few inches above his palm. It looked like he had a dimmer version of the sun in his hand, it swirled with brilliant colors of yellows and oranges. Seeing the confusion on my face he said. "Don't ask me I no idea when I woke up, it was dark in here and I thought wow it would be nice if we I could see; then this happened. Also as far as we're all concerned, none us are normal." 

What did he mean by that? I thought. What Will means that all of us can do something unusual. Kelly said. Something unusual? Don't you realize it yet, we're speaking mind to mind right now. You know like telepathy.

"You see I found out that I read minds when after I woke up you called out in your thoughts. It was strange I could hear you, but Will couldn't. I thought that I was going crazy-" Kelly said. "But, then I pointed out that I could make light at will. So it makes a little more sense all things considered." Will interrupted. This is so strange, none of this makes sense. Light manipulation. Telepathy. Super powers are just science fiction, they don't exist. 

How did we end up like this?... We have no idea, the most that Will and I can remember are our names... "Hey can you guys stop that telepathy crap I don't like being left out of the conversation, also block off your minds from mine I don't want you listening in." said Will glaring at us. 

"Sorry Will I was just telling Devin that we don't remember anything about ourselves except our names and keeping a me" said Kelly. "Well do you guys at least know where we are?" I asked. "No Kelly insisted that we stay in here until you were awake." Will said. Pushing himself off the wall Will walked over, squatted next to Kelly, and held out a hand to me. "Do you think you can stand?" 

I quietly took his hand, steadying myself as I stood on shaky knees. I willed them to stop and moved toward the front of the unit, stopping at the door. I placed my hand on the door handle then turned back to Will and Kelly, who stood right behind me. "Do you guys have any idea at all what's behind here?" "No." They said."I didn't sense any thoughts outside so I don't think anyone is out there."Kelli mentioned. "Okay then let's do this"I said. 

I put my hand on the handle then froze when we heard a loud crash. After standing still for a minute Will finally broke the silence,"that crash sounded like I came from a long way off I think we're in the clear." Carefully, I opened the door and stepped through.

It took my eyes a brief second to adjust to the bright light of that shown through the canopy of trees above. We all looked around observing our new surroundings. The tall, thick, towering trees with thin green canopies that did little to protect from the sun which hung directly overhead in a cloudless blue sky. 

Thin, pale green grass that came to my shins, it made a slight sound when the wind rustled it that was almost musical. Off to my left was a large open field, with what could be best described as a obsidian obelisk in the center. And to the right was a craggy, dark, mountain with what seemed to be river running down on side then disappear around the back of the mountain. Also behind that was an even taller chain of mountains, that seemed to surround us putting us in a bowl. 

The cool wind that ruffled my hair carried the wonderful scent of grass and the forest. "This place is amazing!" Exclaimed Kelly, awe and fascination teeming from her voice. "Yeah it's great and all but what are we doing here?!" Will shouted
