Chapter Eleven

Cherrypaw groggily sat up, a pain spiking in her head. She looked around, her eyes starting to adjust in the near pitch blackness.

Ahead of her way a small doorway guarded by two heavily muscled warriors.

She could smell the scents of her clanmates around her; Lilacice, Jaydawn, Blackpool,Lavenderlight, Goldenbreeze, and Berrypaw.

The scent of blood was thick in the air.

Looking around, Cherrypaw noticed a shape sitting up, seemingly in panic.

Berrypaw!

Cherrypaw padded over to the tom, licking the top of his head to try to calm him down. Berrypaw's breaths slowly became more regular.

"It's okay, Berry. I won't let anything bad happen to you, okay? Just breath," Cherrypaw soothed.

Berrypaw laid down, his eyes still wide with panic. Cherrypaw laid next to him, continuing her attempts to soothe the russet apprentice down.

"Thanks," Berrypaw meowed after he calmed down more.

Cherrypaw gave him a warm smile. "No need, Berry. Anything to make you happy."

Flickerpaw sprinted after Pigeonpaw, who was leading them to his injured friend.

"Oh StarClan," meowed Flickerpaw.

There laid Shadepaw. He was soaked in crimson, blood oozing from many slashes and bites. His ears were torn and his tail was shredded.

"What happened?" Mousepaw asked.

Icepaw stepped out of the shadows dramatically.

"CliffClan. They ambushed us while we were hunting. Shadepaw was weaker than we were and got more injured. I chased them off."

Icepaw's gaze traveled to the limp body that held a CliffClan scent.

"Well, the other three anyway."

Flickerpaw stared uncertainly and nauseous while Frostpaw just nodded.

"Good job, Icepaw. You did what any loyal LeapClan warrior would do. Flickerpaw and Mousepaw, help Pigeonpaw take my brother back to camp," commanded Frostpaw. "I need to talk to Icepaw about a few more details."

Mousepaw nodded to the older apprentice and Flickerpaw and Pigeonpaw joined him in helping Shadepaw stagger back to camp.

At camp, the cats were a lot like they had been during the first GardenClan attack.

Dawnpaw, Laurelflight, and Sunnypaw were dressing the cats with less severe wounds while Daisypaw and Harepounce were treating the more severely injured cats.

Two of Pineclaw's friends, Silverclaw and Mossleap, were talking to him and attempting to comfort him.

Koileap was watching Wigglekit and Kinkkit, trying to keep them busy and distracted.

The most injured cats (Jaydawn, Firepaw, Snowslash, and Wrenstar) were being treated as well as Harepounce and Daisypaw could manage. Sparkheart was pacing near the den, worried for her son.

Harepounce signaled for Flickerpaw and her group to hurry and put Shadepaw down in the medicine cat den.

Soon after, Frostpaw and Icepaw came back into the camp, each carrying a piece of prey that they set on the previously empty fresh-kill pile.

Flickerpaw looked at Frostpaw, trying to see if the apprentice was worried about their brother. Frostpaw, though, was as apathetic as usual.

A little while later, Wrenstar lost a life. Flickerpaw overheard Harepounce and Fawnpounce discussing how Wrenstar was in her eighth life.

Wrenstar, now revived, leapt up on the Tall Ledge.

"Cats of LeapClan, we are fighting a difficult and unfair battle and are in need of warriors more than ever," Wrenstar announced. "So, I would like Frostpaw and Shadepaw to come up here."

Frostpaw padded up to the Tall Ledge while Shadepaw, covered in cobwebs, hobbled over and was supported by Daisypaw and Dawnpaw.

"I call upon our warrior ancestors to bless these brave and courageous cats as I name these apprentices warriors. Frostpaw, Silverclaw has taught you well. Your clan admires your skill and ambition as we welcome you as a warrior of LeapClan. From now on, you will be named Froststrike for your admirable fighting skills.

"Yellowshine, you have taught Shadepaw well. He has fought bravely against enemy warriors even in the face of certain defeat. LeapClan admires your loyalty and bravery. From now on, you will be known as Shadeheart for your passion to protect your clanmates."

The clan cheered the new warriors's names.

"FROSTSTRIKE! SHADEHEART! FROSTSTRIKE! SHADEHEART!"

Flickerpaw tried to shout Froststrike's name louder than any of her other clanmates, looking at their friend with pride and admiration.

Flickerpaw couldn't wait until it was their turn for a full warrior name!
