Chapter 22
Several shrieks, one explanation to the prince and one portal to the Elven kingdom later, I learned that I couldn't stand eating before any big explanations. Because that soup came up and it came up bad.
I didn't talk to anyone when we arrived in the castle, didn't bother to look up and meet anyone's eyes. I knew what would be held there after the first screams that rang out. One after another shouts rang out and were silenced by the prince.
Of everything that could be happening, I still willingly went with them.
It wasn't like I quite had any other choice.
I didn't get to go back to my world because despite the fact that I'd only been here a few weeks, months had passed over there. Not to mention the entire species wanted me as a weapon while another screamed at the sight of me. And I had thought puberty was bad.
And to top it off? They'd all kill me without a second thought. All of them. At any time.
"Lillian dear follow him to your room."
I looked at the witch, not wanting to part, desperate to be around anyone right now. But from the look of her eyes, I could see there was no room to argue.
I looked to the elf standing in front of me. He was as beautiful as the others but yet had nothing but happiness in his eyes.
I walked after him slowly, waiting for someone to pounce on me, waiting to wake up. And it never came.
The castle itself was beautiful. It was filled with a warmth that made me feel at home. A glow that kept me calm.
The floors were a warm brown wood that was smoothed over from years of walking. Nothing like the stone of the Inibrius castle. I shivered in disgust and fear.
"Are you cold?"
I glanced at the elf besides me, his hair nearly as dark as the wood floor and eyes as bright as the sky. He reminded me of Jordan...
I shook my head to get rid of the tears and he took that as his answer.
I thought I was used to the idea of all of this but I couldn't understand how he could do that...
I focused on the doors. Each one similar to the last, labeled in a language I couldn't read. They seemed to be fit for people of extreme height or really tall hair.
I heard the elf snicker besides me and I turned to him.
"Not many elves are that tall, it's just a design feature. And as for the hair," he shrugged. "Nearly all of them keep it long and leave it down. It takes a special someone to wear hair that big."
I nodded. "Mind reading huh? Bet not many of you can do that."
"Oh... sorry. I haven't introduced myself. I'm Prince Gerais."
He stuck out a hand and I reluctantly shook it.
"Another prince huh? This'll be fun."
"We're here."
I looked up at the door as we came to a stop in front of it. There was nothing interesting about the door just the same as the others and the writing next to it that I still didn't understand.
"Right... Well thanks."
I turned the door knob and walked into the room and he followed right behind me. I eyed him, waiting for him to say something but he just stood there.
"Why are you staying?" I didn't mean for the owrds to come out rude but I was so, so tired.
"Well... I have things to tell you and I rather you heard them from me than from my parents or gods forbid; my brother. But go shower first, you look like you need one."
I nodded and walked towards an open door near the back of the room. The room in itself was gorgeous, something that made me feel like royalty just from being here. The french doors led out to a balcony that looked as though it held a forest out there.
The ceiling was decorated in paintings and the fireplace crackled warmly when I walked past. It was all so beautiful but I would think a stable would be compared to the prison.
When I walked into the bathroom, I swore the heavens opened and angels were singing to me. It was one big ass bathroom, and I couldn't wait to get in the over-sized tub sitting in the middle. I smiled happily, I would be here awhile.
One hour and fifteen minutes later I drug my sorry butt out of the glorious water and soaps around me. Mostly because I think the Good Prince was about to break the doors down to come get me and I wouldn't put it past him.
When I walked out, he had his hand on his hip and was glaring at me in an almost comical way.
"What have you been doing! We have to go see the council in less than forty five minutes! And you aren't even dressed!"
"Well it's not like I have a lot of clothing options right now, and I am definitely not putting those ones back on."
He opened and closed his mouth for a good minute before muttering he'd be back and leaving me. When he came back he held a rosy pink piece of fabric that I cringed at. It was better than a towel I guess.
He turned around for me to put it on and I struggled with it. There was about fifty silky folds that I couldn't seem to put in a place that seemed right.
"OK I'm ready."
He turned around and his eyes went wide before he busted out laughing.
"What?"
"Oh my god have you never worn these before? You must have at some point."
I shook my head as he came over to help, readjusting and moving fabric into places and before I knew it, I was wearing a hooded dress that pooled on the floor. It looked better this way.
"Before we go out there, you need to know somethings..."
"OK like who to bow to?"
"Umm... No. You need to know that the council were going to is the Seven Kings. They determine the fate of races based on what their visions and other things tell them. They are the Fae, they can confuse you with words and Gods know they will try to, but they cannot lie. Ask questions carefully because if you don't, you could be doing something you don't want to in seconds. They will try to force you to choose, but you don't have to right away. After all, you just got here and you don't know the customs let alone the people."
"Choose? What am I choosing?"
"Oh you know, where to stay, what to do. Just things like that."
I nodded as he continued: "The first is the Shifters, things you call werewolves. But really they change into any animal they wish until they choose one that speaks to them. Second will be Fearies. They are annoying little shits and won't wait to cause harm. Third is Nymphs, they live in nature quite literally. Fourth would be mermaids... Now don't scream when you see them. They hate that.."
He continued talking and I drowned him out. I was missing everything so bad right now. Everything started to get hazy as my eyes watered but stopped when he pulled me along to go meet the mysterious council.
