Chapter 15
When they led me through the castle, I watched every corridor and every person around me checking for an escape route to find the tunnels. All I needed was an opening- a slight misstep by one of the three guards surrounding me.
One looked like he wanted to kill anything that breathed wrong, the second couldn't stop looking at me with hunger in his eyes and the third, well I don't think he really cared I existed.
I expected to be led to a throne room, a ballroom or maybe to a courtyard to be executed but when we took a turn to head up a flight of stairs, to say I was surprised would be an understatement.
We walked past absolutely no one, the only foot steps being the guards' and my own echoing in the large hallway. The tiles were burgundy and bordering on a blood color. The drapes were tied back so the windows projected distorted squares of light onto the hallway floor.
Everything screamed story book vamps and I could only imagine blood filling the hall and dripping down the wallpaper.
Of course they do drink blood, just not as often as you'd think.
I froze for a moment causing the angry guard to viciously tug me forward. That amazingly annoying voice was back. Almost as though being out of the dungeons helped her get through to me.
Can you hear me? I hoped that this would work again.
I can hear you but you're getting too strong for this to stay up. Play along for now, they don't want you dead. They want you to fight.
I covered up my surprise with a small cough and nearly ran into one of the guards. We had apparently stopped in front of a plain brown door that resembled a closet door. But really well... It was wooden and looked... well like a door should.
The guard on my right opened the door and pushed me forward, nearly causing me to trip over a rug.
"Get dressed. You have fifteen minutes."
I glared at him and slammed the door, astonished at myself for what I did but even more so that they didn't break down the door. These Inibrius were more tame than the ones who watched me clean and especially the ones who tortured me...
I shuddered as the thought of Jordan that popped into my head and looked around, focused on distracting myself.
The room was the entire opposite of the door. I didn't waste time looking at the real grandeur of it because I had a feeling that when that guy said fifteen minutes he meant fifteen minutes. They would probably relish in the thought of dragging me out half naked. Considering what the voice in my head said, I knew that I would have time to look around later.
I stripped off the jumpsuit and ran to the shower, something I never thought I would be so happy to see.
The warm water was bliss and after a week in the dungeons I would have settled for a bucket of cold water and a rag. I scrubbed and scrubbed the dirt away, using the bottles of soap and scents around me. After ten minutes I was nearly content with how clean I had gotten and reluctantly get out. I wrapped the towel that I found on the counter around me and walked back into the room, headed for what looked like a closet.
Right when I reached it, I nearly screamed in surprise when a timid voice spoke up behind me.
"She's already picked out your clothes for you, miss."
I spun around and found a girl who looked like a really young elf standing next to the bed. I had to calm my racing heart from the sudden appearance of her, before walking to where she was pointing.
As I got closer I noticed she was pale and just as bad as I looked, probably a prisoner or slave of the Inibrius. I glanced and looked at the black dress she was pointing at. They wanted to put me... into a dress... I sighed at it. At least it was clean, even if it would be hard to run in when I made my escape.
"Are you an Elf?"
She shied away from my question but still answered like she was scared of me. "Yes, miss. I'm going to be your servant. You can feed off me whenever you'd like."
I frowned. Why would I need a servant? More importantly, I wasn't going to feed off her I wasn't one of them.
She needs help. They all do.
For once, I agreed with the voice, she was in bad condition.
"Why would you think I want to feed off of you? I'm not going to hurt you."
She fidgeted, like she was contemplating actually telling me the truth or not. Sudden realization hit me when I remembered my now white hair. I looked like one of them to her. Hell she might not even know what a human looks like.
"I'm not one of the Inibrius, you know. I'm just a human who just so happened to be traveling with elves when the person who I thought was my best friend when I got kidnapped by him and wound up in the dungeons."
She gasped and I felt mildly bad for putting so much on her at once when I didn't even know her name but after being here for a week I needed to talk to someone badly. She just happened to be the only one who looked to be on my side.
She raised her head, "You're her, aren't you? The human they all talk about?"
I nodded my head, before realizing I was still standing in the towel.
"Why don't I get dressed and we can talk later."
