Volume 1, Ch 2: Hill 001 and 3rd Deep Recon Team

A/N: Credits for inspiration and similarity go to USTrooper. Also, I don't own anything except for my OC

Enjoy!

*insert opening theme

Alnus Hill (Hill 001), Special Region (Khu Vực Đặc Biệt)

Minh's POV:

The tanks, artillery, and the lightly armored vehicles start to arrive after about an hour of driving through the gate. Once all the tanks and artillery start to spread over the hill, covering about a good 75 degrees of fire side by side, we grunts get out of our vehicles and get into our foxholes.

Me (yelling): Let's go! Stick with your fireteams and don't let the enemy overrun your area!

SDF Soldiers: Yes Sir!

The SDF soldiers get into the foxholes, with sandbags covering their holes, then all of them started to aim their Type 64 rifles downwards, where the enemy was lying in wait to start a full-on frontal assault against us. Bad idea.

Tanker over my radio: Sir, it looks like we have got multiple hostiles up ahead.

Me: Wait for the signal.

It was at this time that I put on my night vision googles, courtesy of the US Army, the ENVG-B Targeting/Night Vision goggles. I also pull out my binoculars to get a better view of the enemy.

Me (to the rest of the team): Looks like we're dealing with a small reaction force, probably trying to see our firepower and tactics.

As I said that the sun was rising behind us, though it was still completly dark, when I hear the enemy's trumpeteers blow. I then give the order for everyone to fire.

Me (over the radio and to my team): Everyone, BẮN! (FIRE!)

All the SDF soldiers, tanks, and artillery start to pummel the position of the enemy off guard, who was just preparing to attack us. Since the firing range was close to 250 yards, I fire in semi-automatic shots at the enemy, killing several dozen of them. By the end of the barrage and hail of lead sent at them, they were all but vanquished in a matter of minutes. Not even hours, or days, MINUTES. That is definitely going to be a dent in their might, whatever that was.

3rd Person POV:

Imperial Senate, Imperial Capital, Special Region (Khu Vực Đặc Biệt)

(A/N: I going to try the anime dialogue for this. Dialogue below here is owned by Gate)

The Marquess Casel addresses the crowd in the senate

Marquess Casel: It was an embarrassment, Your Majesty. We lost 60% of the empire's military might. What would you have us do? How would you guide the state?

The Emperor speaks.

Emperor Molt: Marquess Casel, think about how the people must feel. It is true that our latest losses cost us our military advantage. They worry that vassals of our state and others may revolt and attack the Imperial Capital itself.

The Emperor then puts his hand over his eyes and back out again.

Emperor Molt: How pathetic.

Marquess Casel slightly gasps.

Emperor Molt: Every time our empire is in danger, the Emperor, the Senate, and the people become one to confront the danger, and bring even more progress. No war is on without some loss. Therefore, I will not hold anyone responsible for our recent losses. To think that another nation dares surround the Imperial City...I trust that none of you will waste time in court.

The senators all smile and talk amongst themselves

Marquess Casel: To pass over all responsibility...but what should we do?

A man with a walking cane approaches the Marquess. The man's name is Goadasen.

Goadasen: The army we sent was defeated in just two days. And now the Gate has been captured, and the enemy is attempting to set up base on this side. Of course, we attempted to take back the Hill as well. But the enemies in the distance...

Flashbacks of the SDF firing at the Imperial troops is recounted.

Goadasen: I have never seen such sorcery.

A man in armor named Podawan yells out from the crowd.

Podawan: We ought to fight them! If we don't have enough men, we need only to recruit them from our tributaries. Attack the other side of the gate once more!

A senator rises up from his seat.

Senator #1: What good will brute force alone do?

Senator #2 (next to him): It'll be another Godasen!

Unknown Senators: Yeah! Fight them!

The Marquess looks around in awe.

The Emperor rises his hand out to silence them all.

Emperor Molt: I do not wish to sit idly by. Therefore, we must fight. Send delegates to our tributaries and neighboring states. Ask for help in defending the continent from these men from another world.

The Emperor stands up from his throne.

Emperor Molt: We will lead the Allied Army of Godu Rino Gwaban in an attack on Alnus Hill.

The senators clap and cheer.

Senators: For Emperor Molt! Glory to the Empire!

The Marquess heads up to the Emperor.

Marquess Casel: Your Majesty, it will be a bloodbath.

The Emperor then smirks.

A/N: Back to Minh

Alnus Hill (Hill 001), Special Region (Khu Vực Đặc Biệt), in the morning.

Minh's POV:

Me (Thinking): It's already morning already (I groan), damn it. I look at the note on the table in my tent.

Me: What's this?

The note said that recon forces yesterday spotted a whole division (close to 60,000 men) trying to retake Hill 001.

I went outside to greet the SDF privates in my platoon.

SDF Private: Morning, Lieutenant Lê, sir! (he salutes me)

I salute him back.

Me: Morning private, at ease. By the way, since there is an enemy attack coming, which way is it?

SDF Private: I don't know sir, that's something that your binoculars can handle.

Me: Alright then, is everyone in their positions?

SDF Private: Yes sir.

I get into the foxhole to avoid exposing myself and pull out my binoculars and put on ENVG-B in targeting mode to scan for the enemy. I look to the west of the hill and see that the enemy division is trudging its way slowly towards our position. I get the radio to call a "morning gift" on them.

Me (radio): Bravo 0-2 can you hear me?

Bravo 0-2 (radio): Yes sir.

Me (radio): There is a division sized enemy force to our west. Fire your artillery shells at them!

Bravo 0-2 (radio): Yes sir!

We then see a barrage of artillery being sent at the enemy to the west. Meanwhile I am sitting here being calm, since I have seen multiple artillery strikes before, the SDF privates stand in awe.

A/N: Credits to USTrooper for GIF.

Me (radio): Bravo 0-2, all enemies are destroyed, good job!

SDF Private: Damn, what was all of that? (stands in awe)

Me: That my friend, is the power of f*ckin artillery. Pretty powerful amrite?

I check the time, it was about 1100 hrs, so almost lunch time.

Me: Welp, does anyone wanna get lunch now?

SDF Privates: All of us do sir, we're all starving.

Me: Get your MRE's then!

We all grab our MRE's out to eat. I admit, they have better MRE's than us Marine grunts, but it was not as good as the Vietnamese ones. Eh, I'm not complaining.

A/N: Battle report! (From Gate anime)

Allied Kingdoms' 1st Offensive: Failure, defeated by JGSDF.

Allied casualties: Approx. 10,000 dead.

JGSDF casualties: None.

Minh: Big oof.

Author: Hey! No fourth wall breaking! Get back in there!

Minh: Yes sir.

Okay now back to Minh.

Alnus Hill (Hill 001), Special Region (Khu Vực Đặc Biệt), in the afternoon.

Minh's POV:

We were eating our lunch peacefully and quietly. The SDF Privates and I were joking around with each other.

Me (laughing): Wait let me show you something funny!

A/N: Meme time!

A/N: Laughing his a*s off.

Me and SDF Privates: (Laughing our a*sses off)

We then see that the enemy is trying to full-frontal assault from the west.. again. Guess they are trying Soviet tactics I guess. But this time, we see wyverns, along with a bigger force.

Me: Aw sh*t, everyone get into battle positions!

The SDF privates and I get into our positions, with everyone else in the tanks and artillery doing the same.

Me (over the radio): Bravo 0-2! Get the anti-air systems online now!

Bravo 0-2 (radio): Roger! Anti-air systems online!

I pull out my binos and see that tanks and artillery tear into the enemy lines, and the anti-air vehicles fire at the wyverns, with deadly effect. Once they are finished taking down the enemy, I call over the radio to cease fire. Serves them right for trying to implement Soviet tactics against a modern army. Bad idea. By the end of it all, thousands lie dead on the ground. Though it was not the end..

A/N: Credits go to USTrooper and Gate wikia for both GIFs.

A/N: Battle report!

Allied Kingdoms' 2nd Offensive: Failure, defeated by JGSDF.

Allied casualties: Approx. 40,000 dead.

JGSDF casualties: None.

Minh: They never learn to never use Soviet tactics on us.

A/N: Yeah...anyways get back into the damn story!

Minh: Yes sir!

A/N: Back to Minh again.

Alnus Hill (Hill 001), Special Region (Khu Vực Đặc Biệt), nightime

Minh's POV:

Me: Well privates, its night time. You know what that means? Night vision goggles time.

I put on my ENVG-B goggles and set it to both night vision and targeting modes. Since we were already in position after we finished dinner, we shouldn't be caught off guard. Not to mention, there was barbed wire surrounding our hill, so we should be fine, until....

Me (using ENVG-B and using the radio and yelling at my squad at the same time): Đ*t mẹ, they're attacking from the west again! Get into positions and fire!

Once I said that, all the tanks and artillery started firing at the enemies trying to rush the hill. The infantry this time as well started firing. I started to điểm xạ them and got another few couple dozen enemies.

A/N: Credits to USTrooper.

A/N: Điểm xạ timez.

Through my ENVGs, I could see that the enemy was having a hard time trying to surpass the barbed wire. And....they bought archers along as well.

Me: Privates, keep firing at the enemy, I will aim for the archers!

I fire my AKM in điểm xạ at the archers and they all fell down one by one. I can tell this as the archers are dressed differently than the normal cavalry or grunt guys. Ahh..the advantage of night vision goggles. In a matter of minutes, the JGSDF and I tear through their lines, and by the time it all ends, only their commander was left standing, to which I shot him in the head to end his misery. I then call over the radio to cease fire.

Me: Privates, we did well today, good job. Now go get yourself some sleep, cause we have to do some assessments and cleanup tomorrow.

SDF Privates: Yes sir! (they salute me)

I salute them back and pat themselves on their shoulders as they whizzed past me. I then head to my camp and rest in bunk, waiting for tomorrow to arrive. Plus I had to meet up with Itami in the morning. In the end of it all, it all turned out be another Great Marianas' Turkey Shoot.

A/N: Battle report! (From Gate wikia this time)

Allied Kingdoms' 3rd Offensive: Failure, defeated by JGSDF.

Allied casualties: Approx. 20,000 dead.

JGSDF casualties: None.

Minh: Bruh...just why?

A/N: I don't know man...

Back to Minh again.

Alnus Hill (Hill 001), Special Region (Khu Vực Đặc Biệt), aftermath, next morning

Minh's POV:

A/N: Credits to USTrooper and the Gate wikia.

A/N: Pretend Minh is in the picture and standing next to Itami and Kurata is behind him, with Minh holding his AKM. Credits go to the Gate wikia btw.

It was morning and we were heading out to do some assessments to report back to HQ. While we were walking through the craters, dead bodies, armor, and weapons lie everywhere on the battlefield.

Me: Looks like they lost a lot of men and power.

Kurata: I heard intel say that we faced 60,000 men yesterday and in Ginza there was also 60,000 men.

Me: That means they lost 2 armies worth of men.

Itami and Kurata: Yeah..

We continue to walk around the devastated site, with just your typical birds, until we reach the enemy camp and see their banners.

Itami: Why is there different banners for every soldier we see?

Me: It probably has something to do with vassal and allied states. I starting to get a feeling that they are sending their rival's units to have no opposition in their Congress or something?

Kurata: So what you are saying is that this is not a strategic move by the enemy, but as a way to kill off their rivals in the political world?

Me: That's correct, Sergeant Kurata, and I'm starting to not like it at all.

Itami: We should probably head back. HQ is probably going to wonder where we are after all of this.

We head back to HQ to receive further orders and to provide a report of the battlefield.

Me (thinking): I wonder what's happening back in the US right now?

Third Person POV (A/N: Going to use anime dialogue for this):

The White House, Washington D.C.

President Dirrel: What the hell is Japan doing? They made it to the other side of the Gate, and now they're just sitting there like turtles.

Cabinet Advisor: The Self-Defense Force must investigate the politics within the Special Region and capture key locations.

The President laughs.

President Dirrel: The Gate is the new frontier. There must be more resources on the other side than we can imagine. It's a treasure trove.

President Dirrel then lies back in the chair.

President Dirrel: How about it? Why don't we send our army in?

Cabinet Advisor: That might not be necessarily a good thing. Many nations anticipate Japan's defeat. We ought to let Japan take the risks for us. Plus, we already have an asset on the ground with the SDF.

President Dirrel: Lieutenant Lê?

Cabinet Advisor: Yes sir.

President Dirrel: Good then, I suppose he is making a report to us?

Cabinet Advisor: Yes sir, though he does have to make a report for the Vietnamese government as well, so it might not be as long as anticipated.

President Dirrel: Very well then, send me the report later at noon.

Cabinet Advisor: Yes sir.

Alnus Hill (Hill 001), Special Region (Khu Vực Đặc Biệt), 5th Combat Team HQ (A/N: Anime dialogue again btw)

Itami and I meet up with Major Higaki to await for further orders. Look's like our job isn't done yet.

Major Higaki: So, we've come to the conclusion that we'll need to investigate the people, industries, religions, and the politics of this region.

Itami: An investigation, huh? That sounds good.

Major Higaki: I'm not messing around!

I hit him in the side for that.

Itami: Ow! What was that for?

Me: You being an idiot.

Major Higaki: Lieutenant Lê is right. You're the one going.

Itami: No way.

Major Higaki drops the papers he's holding on the table.

Itami: Don't tell me I'm going alone.

Major Higaki: Why would I say that? You have a person right next to you. (he points at me)

Me: Hợp lý (Right)...Itami. (I look at him with a glare)

Itami (nervous): S-sorry.

Major Higaki: First, we're going to form 6 deep recon teams. Your mission is to command one of them.

Itami: Great....this is gonna be fun.

Major Higaki then crosses his arms.

Major Higaki: Make contact with the townspeople in your area and determine their nature. If possible, establish a friendly relationship with them.

Itami: Right, I guess. (scratches his head)

Major Higaki: Good. Captain Itami, I hereby grant you command of 3rd Deep Recon Team. First Lieutenant Lê?

Me: Yes sir?

Major Higaki: I grant you second in command of the 3rd Deep Recon Team. And also, make sure to keep an eye on Captain Itami will you?

Me: Yes sir.

We then move out of the tent to go meet up with the rest of the 3rd Recon Team.

Itami: Remind me again why you are my second in command?

Me: First, it's for the press back home in Vietnam and the US. Second, they probably want us together in the same unit cause of the "hero" status we have. Third, I am to keep an eye on you.

Itami (sighs): Yeah right..

We then greet and inspect our team who was just getting into formation.

Sergeant Major Kuwabara: Fall in!

A/N: Credits go to USTrooper for image.

Me (waiting for the rest of 3rd Recon to fall in): Hởn chương (Ready)! NGHIÊM (ATTENTION)!

All of 3rd Recon fall into attention.

Itami (salutes): Hey pops uh..hehe.

Me (salutes): Glad to see you again Sergeant Major.

We then get our introductions for each team member.

I see that Itami kind of sweats and is kind of nervous at the same time.

Itami: I am Itami, commander of the 3rd Deep Recon Team.

All of 3rd Recon execpt for Kurata and Kuwabara: We get that, but who are you? (they all point at me)

Me (I laugh briefly, then get serious again): You all probably don't know me well, so I will introduce myself briefly. My name is First Lieutenant Lê of the United States Marine Corps and the People's Army of Vietnam. I am currently both the US-Vietnamese military attache and the senior US-Vietnamese military advisor, and I will be your second in command.

Some of the 3rd Recon talk amongst themselves. Except for the Sergeant Major and Sergeant Kuribayashi. Hm, real nice, I'm liking part of this team already. I then get back to briefing with the rest of the team after that.

Me: We will be moving to our area of recon shortly. Stock up on supplies, and be ready to head out. I expect each and every one of you to act like one of my Marines or soldiers. Once we make contact with the locals, you are to be on your best behavior possible. That means no stealing or looting from the locals. RÕ CHƯA?! (UNDERSTOOD?!)

3rd Recon: YES SIR!

Me: Itami, when you're ready.

Itami: All because I missed the Yurikamome at Shinbashi that day. And now I'm a squad commander.

Me: Dude, at least you weren't a wondering Vietnamese guy trying to figure out the streets like he was in the middle of Thanh Hoá province. And here I am, in the middle of doing recon with you guys and being second in command.

Itami: Easy for you to say.

Me: Well, at least we're not dealing with the phản động 3 que xỏ lá. (The South Vietnamese flag)

Itami. Yeah...Alright, let's get going!

I hear Kuribayashi mutter something under her breath.

Kuribayashi: What's wrong with this guy? The Vietnamese lieutenant is a more suitable option than this a*s of a commander.

Me (thinking): Hey! At least Kuribayashi agrees with me. (smiles)

Kuwabara: Man your vehicles!

Me: ĐI! (LETS GO!)

We get into our vehicles and head out. To be really honest though, I miss the Vietnamese vehicles back in Hà Nội that I saw almost everyday. Probably just homesick, but oh well..

In the forest, Special Region (Khu Vực Đặc Biệt), morning to early afternoon

We went through a village known as "Coda Villiage" and met up with the locals. We exchanged traditions and gave out some gifts and gave us directions to through the forest to another village, or settlement, I don't exactly remember. I was sitting in front of Sergeant Kuribayashi while Itami and Kurata were in the vehicle in front of us singing an anime opening through the radio. I smacked myself in the forehead because of the utter absurdity of them singing. They're even worst than those nhạc vàng singers.

Me: Đ*t con mẹ...

Kuribayashi: What is this?

Me: Our commander and your fellow comrade acting like a bunch of weebs.

Kuribayashi: Yes.

Kuribayashi then asks me something.

Kuribayashi: Sir, how was it?

Me: Hm?

Kuribayashi: Your experience, the Middle East and Vietnam?

Me: Well, its going to be a long one, so sit tight.

Kuribayashi: I'm listening sir.

Me: Well, I have accepted the things I did in the past as my life. Growing up with parents who wanted me to become a doctor at some major Vietnamese hospital, like Bênh Viện 108, or Bênh Viện Bạch Mai, I just became cold to my surroundings, like I didn't give a sh*t about the world. It wasn't until I enlisted at 17 into the Marine Corps that I become a little more happier. That was, until I was deployed into Ramadi, Iraq with the famous Task Force Bruiser as a sniper. Had about 75 confirmed kills, which included HVTs. When the enemy heard about this, they put a bounty on my head and I was given the name the "Ghost of Ramadi" for that. I served about close to 8 months in Ramadi before heading out to Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, one of the most dangerous provinces of the whole of Afghanistan. There (I start to tear up remembering what had happened), we got ourselves into ambush valley and almost the whole platoon got wiped out by the Taliban. (I start tearing up even more). I couldn't save them....and my mistake cost them their lives. I then went to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland and then to Quantico, Virginia for officer school, graduated top 20 in both. I was then deployed to Syria with the US Army Green Berets in support of the Syrian SDF against ISIS forces. Ran into an ambush planted by Assad's Syrian Army and the Russian Military Police in Aleppo and got out of there alive with the rest of them. After that, well...I was sent to back home to Hà Nội as part of a cooperation program between the US and Vietnam and attached myself with the 301st Infantry Division, and yeah...that's my story before Ginza.

By the end of it all, I don't know why, but I am still shaking from Kandahar and still had tears in my eyes. Great, a sign of weakness. Luckily, Kuribayashi hugged me all the way after I explained everything.

Kuribayashi (stroking my back): It's okay sir, I understand that you have been through enough.

And there we were, in the back of a vehicle, with Kuribayashi hugging and comforting me. We both fell asleep afterwards.

On the way to the settlement, Special Region (Khu Vực Đặc Biệt), late afternoon

I hear the radio light up back to life, waking me up. I see that Kuribayashi has fallen asleep on my shoulder, so I try not to wake her up. I smile, wondering how I how I have already fallen in love with her at first sight, though I can't tell her yet. I listen to the radio and hear Itami's group is talking about their gear.

Tomita: -But why are all of our weapons old issue? I mean, our vehicles are current issue vehicles.

Itami: Budget problems, I'm sure. There's a chance we might have to leave it and retreat.

Tomita: So disposable weapons, huh?

Itami: Besides, even with all the electronics in the new gear, our GPS receivers are useless without the satellites.

Me (muttering so no one can hear): Well that's a bummer. I was planning on using the new GPS the army sent me that's attached to my plate carrier right now. Awww...

Kuwabara: The right tools for the job.

Kuwabara then starts to give directions for Kurata.

Kuwabara: Kurata, take the right at the stream and follow it. We should arrive at the forest that the Coda Village chief was talking about.

Kurata: Roger.

I see that we pass over the stream with Kurata following directions just like Kuwabara said.

Kurata: It's a stream, just like he said.

Itami: We're all counting on you, Pops.

Kuwabara: In that case, I'd like to provide my own opinion, Commander Itami. Let's set up camp in front of the forest.

Itami: Agreed.

By the time the conservation was done, Kuribayashi looks up and yawns. Her head is still leaning on my shoulder.

Me (looks down): Hey Kuribayashi. You awake?

Kuribayashi (yawns): Yes sir.

We both then listen to the radio again.

Kuwabara: It was already sent?

Kurata: Shouldn't we go straight in?

Itami: If we went in now, the sun would set before we know what we're up against. Besides, we'll end up intimidating any settlement there.

Me (whispering so only Kuribayashi can hear): I don't want to sound arrogant, but he sometimes forgets that I have night vision goggles literally attached to my helmet. That and he is an a*s sometimes.

Kuribayashi (giggling): Now that's just mean to our commander. (she lightly punches me in the shoulder)

Me: Well, what do you do?

Itami: -We're the Defense Force. The people love us. Our mission is to make friendly ties with the people after all. So...

Then I hear Itami try to speak Saderan, the language that they speak here in this world. God his language skills were awful, though I'm not pointing it out.

Itami: (practices speaking "Hello. How are you?" in Saderan)

Kurata: You sound stiff. You'd be better off going to that language school by the station.

Itami: Shut up! (I hear Itami's translation book getting thrown at Kurata)

Kurata: Ouch. Huh?

Itami: No changing the topic.

Kuribayashi and I look ahead for what looked like a forest fire.

Kuribayashi and I: Huh?

Itami: Eh?

Kuwabara: What the? A fire?

We then stop and disembark from our vehicles, with me grabbing my AKM. Kuribayashi and I go down to meet Itami and the rest of the crew.

Kurata: It's burning.

Itami: Big time.

Me: No sh*t Sherlock, it looks like a forest fire.

Itami: A freak of nature?

Kuwabara: More like a giant monster movie.

I then put on ENVG-B goggles and set it to targeting mode, while Kuwabara gets out his binos. We then saw a dragon trying to burn the whole forest down.

Me: Locked on...a dragon huh? Great...

A/N: Credits go to USTrooper.

Kuwabara: Oh my! A one-headed King Ghidorah?

Itami: That stuff's is so old Pops.

Kuribayashi then speaks up

Kuribayashi: Commander Itami, what should we do now?

Itami: Kuribayashi-chan, I'm too scared to go alone. Wanna come with me?

Kuribayashi: No, thank you. (turns her head away)

Itami: Oh, okay.

I smirk and smile at her for her rebuttal. Kuribayashi then blushes when she sees me.

Dragon: ROAR!

All of us look back at the dragon, with some of us aiming our rifles, including me, and watch it fly away.

Kuwabara: It's flying away.

Me: Welp, there goes my target lock and zoom.

The others then look back at me.

Itami: How the hell were you able to zoom in on the dragon without bino-Oh..

Me: I really don't want to say it again, Itami. (points at my goggles) Neck yourself.

Itami then proceeds to neck himself for that comment. Kuribayashi giggles a little. Itami then turns back to Kuribayashi.

Itami (to Kuribayashi): Do you think that dragon really has a habit of burning down forests for no reason?

Kuribayashi: If you're interested in dragon behavior, why don't you go after it yourself?

Me: Get rekted Itami.

Itami: N-no, I mean, don't you remember what they were saying at Coda Village? About there being a settlement in the village?

Kuribayashi slightly gasps.

Me: So that means that the settlement that we were told about got destroyed in the fire.

Kurata: Oh crap.

Itami: Pops, it looks like we'll have to set up camp later.

Kawabara: Understood. All units, prepare to move!

Me (to Kuribayashi): Đi (Lets go).

We then hear lightning strike in the background. We wait till next morning to clear the wreckage.

Destroyed settlement, Special Region (Khu Vực Đặc Biệt), aftermath next morning.

Minh's POV:

Well it looks like the heavy rain yesterday took care of the whole settlement. The fire was out when we arrived from our vehicles. The wreckage was just terrible. The dragon must have literally burned peoples' homes to the ground. We arrived to check if there were any survivors from the attack and to survey the damage done. We were moving through multiple charred corpses, as if this was Hiroshima and Nagasaki in WW2. The torn out buildings and rumble looked like the war years in Vietnam, much like Hả Nội during the Điện Biên Phủ Trên Không. Kurata looks shocked when he saw the charred corpses.

Kurata: What was that, sir?

Me: Charred corpses..keep on moving Sergeant, I don't want you to get scarred for life here.

Itami: He's right, keep moving...

I muttered something under my breath for the destruction of homes into rubble and bodies scattered all around me.

Me (muttering): Cái nay nhìn hết giọng như Hà Nội trong năm '72 (This all looks like Hà Nội in 1972). Damn...

While Itami and I were walking to the well, Kuwabara says his prayers to the dead.

Kuwabara: Rest in peace.

Once we get to the well, Itami sits down and pulls out his canteen for a drink. I though, luckily brought along a CamelBak tactical hydration pack, so I was not very dehydrated, though drinking from it was very weird since you had to pull the tube through you arm to drink it. I had no issues with it though, since I was so used to having to drink like that in a combat zone. I sit down next to Itami with my AKM strapped to the side and begin to drink from the CamelBak. Kuribayashi then approaches us.

Kuribayashi: Commander, Lieutenant sirs?

Me: Yes Kuribayashi?

Kuribayashi: There are 32 building-like structures in this settlement. We've only confirmed 27 corpses. It's too few.

Me: That means...

Kuribayashi: I believe they were caught under the rubble when the buildings collapsed in the fire.

Itami: Assuming there were 3 people per building..

Me: That means that 100 people died, and since the dragon burned almost everything that wasn't a building to ash, no survivors as well.

Kuribayashi: That's terrible.

Itami: We should make a report that dragons here may attack settlements.

Me: Right.

Itami stands up to go pick up a bucket to get some water in the well.

Kuribayashi: We barely managed to penetrate the small dragons we encountered in the defense battle at the gate with 12.7 mm armor-piercing bullets.

Me: Yeah, those dragons ain't going down with 50 cal. machine guns. We'll have to use something that is higher in caliber.

Itami: It's kindy of tanky, yeah. We'll have to find the dragon's nest and figure out where it shows up.

Me: Great, another day on the job...

Itami then lowers the bucket into the well, to which a "clunk" happened, meaning that there is something inside the well.

Itami: Eh?

Kuribayashi: I just heard a clunk. What was that?

Me: I'm turning on my flashlight. (I turn on my flashlight attached to my helmet)

Kuribayashi turns on her flashlight as well as the 3 of us get a better look at....not a something, but a someone. All 3 of us get gasps out of our mouths and widen our eyes.

A/N: Credits go to USTrooper.

Itami: A person. There's a person here!

Me: An elf. (I yell to get the corpsman's attention) Corpsman! Get over here!

*insert Gate ending theme
