Prologue
A/N: This story won't usually be in anybody else's POV other than Aphmau's, but since this is the prologue, this will be in multiple peoples POVs, just to show how everything happened for different people. Also, nobody except Kawaii~Chan is a meif'wa in this series. ~Car
Aphmau
I glance at the sky as the bomb sirens go off. Fear runs over my body as my feet glue to the ground. "Come on, Aphie!" My mom calls out, waving me over. I stare at the sky. My mom grabs my arm then pulls me into the safe hold. Mom locks the latch then crawls down the ladder. Dad is already down here. He was down here when the sirens started going off, he was getting prepared, then it just so happened that the bombs started raining while he was here. Oh, yes... I haven't properly introduced myself. I'm Aphmau Obsidian and I live in UK (United Kingdom for those that didn't know). My ears ring as I hear the Kaploosh! of bombs as they hit the ground. This isn't the first time that this has happened. It happens often, that's why we eventually built safe holds for it. Everyone in the UK did, so we just joined along and did the same. "Aphmau!" My dad calls. I turn to him as he engulfs me in a hug. "Everything's going to be fine." He mutters, stroking my hair. It always calms me. Both of my parents know that this stresses me out, and at 12 years old, I shouldn't be stressed about these things, really. But, I really don't have a choice. My father releases, then we all sit on a few stools in the middle of the decently sized, underground room.
30 Minutes Later...
The bombs finally seem to stop, so my father and mother go to check. "It's--" My dad starts, but he gasps, cutting himself off. My mom jumps down the ladder and runs to me, wrapping her arms around me. "M-Mommy? What happened to daddy?" I ask as she strokes my hair. "He's in a better place..." She mutters, tears rolling down her cheeks. "S-So... He's dead?" I choke out, tears interrupting my words. Mom glaces at the ladder, then back at me. "Sadly..." She trails off. Tears stream down my face like a river of rushing water. Well... Tears are water, so, I guess it counts... Mom releases from me, grabs a gas mask then walks out. She gasps as well. Are... Are both of they.. Gone?
Laurance
Hayden grabs Cadenza and I then leads us to the safe hold. After Cadenza gets in, I witness Hayden get shot in the back by one of the invading soldiers. "Run, son." Are his last words before the life drains from Hayden's eyes. Tears brim in my eyes, but I can't say anything, or else my cover would be blown. A tear rolls down my cheek, then I climb down the ladder, locking the hatchet. "Where's Dad?" Cadenza asks as my feet touch the ground. "H-He's dead." I choke out thru my tears. Cadenza and I hug instantly and start crying onto each other's shoulders. How're we going to survive this without him?
Garroth
Mom leads Vylad, Zane and I to the safe hold as Dad is with his troops, trying to calm the invasion. Dad is the general of one of the selections. He goes out whenever there's a threat, so that's why he isn't here. Once Zane, Vylad and I get into the safe hold, Mom follows us in. Little did we know that a soldier saw her. "Boys.. Run." Mom says as a hand grabs her arm and pulls her from the ladder. "Mom!" Vylad cries. Both, Zane and I cover his mouth, then run off to a hidden room in a secluded area. Tears are running down all of our cheeks, but we can't think about that now. All we have to think about now is getting thru this invasion and surviving until the end of the war. But... Irene knows how long it's going to last.
Katelyn
My brothers died in the first year of the war. Those blasted soldiers took 'em. I don't know if they're dead or alive, but all I know is that they're not with dad and I anymore. Tears escape my eyes just even thinking about it. Suddenly, while Dad and I are having dinner, the bombing siren starts to wail. Dad's eyes widen slightly, mine already saucers. Dad grabs my hand then runs to the safe hold. Once we get there, he sits me down on a chair.
30 Minutes Later...
Once the bombs stop falling and the atomic waste is said to be gone, Dad decides to go out and see if it's safe. "I love you, sweetie." Dad kisses my forehead, then walks to the ladder and climbs up it. I hear nothing for a few minutes until I hear him gasping for air. I guess it's not all gone... Tears brew in my eyes.
Only if
He had worn a
gas mask.
