Another summer day has gone by, but to Marina, it is another day of enjoying her summer vacation. Every night, she would go to visit the gargoyles. Nothing much happened during those nights, but Marina didn't mind. She would write down all of Hudson's stories so they could be passed down to the next generation, cook new recipes with Broadway to make wonderful family meals together, read interesting books with Goliath, and talk about what they think about them, which was a challenge since the books they try to show each other doesn't always work out. When it came to Bronx, Marina would always play with him until he got tired, but it was more of Marina getting tired since Bronx is such an energetic dog. When Lexington was helping out Marina, picking out her classes for her first semester was harder than she thought. Since she didn't know what major she wanted to do, she got the basic classes to start with Math, English, and History. Marina was having a hard time picking out, but she finally decided on creative writing and sociology. Since she was already writing Hudson's stories, it would be great to use Sociology to help her understand how the people of New York can work things out with the gargoyles. It's a long shot, but it doesn't hurt to try.  After setting up for school, Marina spent time with Brooklyn. He took her to all sorts of places she had never seen before, and it felt amazing. The more Marina gets to know Brooklyn, the more she feels the butterflies in her stomach. Marina didn't know what was happening to her and wasn't sure if she should tell Elisa about this, but not right away since this feeling was still new to her. 

When Marina was done running errands for Elisa, she decided to cook some dinner for the both of them. Marina starts cooking dinner and hears the door opening to see Elisa coming inside. " Hey, sis. I'm making us some steaks for dinner." 

" Sounds good to me." Elisa said as she put her coat and gun on the coat rack. Elisa felt down because of the case she had been working on for a while, and there were no good leads to catch the bad guy.  " So, what do you need me to do for dinner?" 

" Could you start working on the veggies please?" Marina asked as she cooked up the steaks. 

" You got it." Elisa said as she grabbed the veggies from the fridge and started sauteing them. Then a noise came from the screen door to saw Broadway coming inside the apartment.

" Hi Mari, hey Elisa." Broadway said as he came inside. 

" Hi, Broadway. Elisa and I are making steaks for dinner, want one?" Marina asked Broadway. 

" Yeah, that would be great, thanks." Broadway said as he looked around the apartment. Then he notices Elisa's gun on her strap. After going to see a Western movie, Broadway got it into his head how it would be cool to be a cowboy. He takes hold of Elisa's gun and pretends to be a cowboy. 

"BANG, BANG!"  

Broadway dropped the gun as it was fired off. " Sorry, my fault. I was playing with the gun. Stupid of me. I hope I didn't break anything." Broadway said as the room was quiet. Broadway went over to the kitchen to find Elisa and Marina lying on the floor bleeding. 

" Elisa, Marina!" Broadway panicked and carried them both out of the apartment and hurried them to the hospital. Luckily, it wasn't too far from the apartment. There was only one gurney, so Broadway placed Elsia and Marina on their sides to hold them both. Once Broadway put them on the gurney, he saw his hands were covered in their blood, which frightened him very much. He heard two people coming to the entrance he quickly hid away. 

" Oh my gosh! I can't get their pulses!" 

"Let's bring them inside!" 

Both EMTs hurried both the girls inside the hospital to get the medical they needed. Broadway glides away as he feels scared and horrible that he might have killed his friends. 

Back at the castle, dawn was nearly approaching the gargoyles were getting ready for the morning and noticed Broadway still hadn't come home. 

" I guess Broadway liked that movie so much he decided to stay and watch it a few more times." 

" I hope he finds a comfortable place to rest." 

Brooklyn then notices Owen coming over to Goliath and wonders why he was there. Brooklyn came next to Goliath's side and decided to listen to what Owen had to say. 

" I'm afraid I have some bad news for you." Owen starts talking to Goliath.

" What is it? Speak quickly." Goliath asked as he knew something was wrong. 

" Your friends Elisa Maza and her sister Marina have been shot. They are not sure if they'll live." Owen explains to Goliath.

Both Gargoyles are shocked to hear the news and can't do anything as the sun rises and turns to stone. 

While back at the hospital, the doctors are working on Elisa and Marina in their operating room. The doctors are trying so hard to keep the girls alive. 

During Marina's surgery, Marina was dreaming she was in some other world she had never seen before, and it looked beautiful. The place looked like it had come out of a fairy tale story, but didn't know which one unless it was a combination of stories. Marina walks around the garden and is loving every moment of this place. 

Hours went by. The doctors finally finished both Elisa and Marina's surgery and brought them into their room to keep an eye on them since their surgeries were intense. 

Back at the castle, the gargoyles finally woke up and went to Owen's office to get the information on Elisa and Marina. 

" How did it happen?" Goliath asked. 

" We're not quite sure yet. Elisa was trying to get a stolen shipment of particle beam weaponry off the street. It was very important to her. With Miss Marina, I'm guessing the person who was after her older sister didn't want to leave any witnesses alive. " 

" Where are they?" Hudson asked. 

" Manhatten General. Pardon me." Owen leaves the office as Goliath wants to take out his rage on something. 

" Goliath Broadway isn't back yet, and I'm worried." Brooklyn said as he was very worried about Marina. 

" You and Lexington find him. Hudson, stay here and guard the castle. I'll go and on Elisa and Marina." 

" I'm going with you." Brookly said. 

" No, you need to find Broadway." Goliath didn't want to with Brooklyn but nearly was. 

" It's alright, Goliath; I know Broadway's favorite places besides, you're going to need someone to watch over Elisa and Marina at the hospital. If something goes wrong, if you're not there." Lexington explains to Goliath and does have a good point. 

" Very well, let us go." Goliath leaves the room and glides to the hospital. 

Brooklyn glides alongside Goliath as he thinks about Marina. He couldn't imagine losing her as he was still getting to know her, at the same time however, Brooklyn was furious about who would want Marina dead and would find this person if it was the last thing he'd ever do. 

Once Brooklyn and Goliath arrived at the hospital, they found the window of the room Elisa and Marina were in together, and broke both of their hearts seeing the girls so vulnerable in their hospital beds. Both Goliath and Brooklyn hid away as the Maza family and the doctor came inside the room to hear the information about what had happened. 

" Don't sugarcoat it, Dr. Sado. They're our daughters." Peter said as he came over to Marina's side as Diane was with Elisa. 

" I wish I could tell you they'll be okay. But the internal damage is extensive. The bullets hit high on the chest, ricocheting off the collarbone, nicking the heart muscle, and passing through the right lung. I and Dr. Conner removed the bullets from the base of their spine. Whoever shot them knew what they were doing. The good news is they survived 10 hours of surgery. The next twelve hours are crucial." 

" Should we have their sister fly from Arizona?" Peter asked as he was worried.

" Don't talk like that, Dad; they'll be okay." Derek said as he wasn't giving up hope. 

" Well, what can we do? Diane..." 

" We can pray, Peter. We can pray." Diane said as she tried to stay calm for her daughters. 

Soon, the chief of Police came into the room as the doctor started to leave as well. " Don't stay long they need rest." 

" Maria, thank you for coming." 

" Mrs. Maza, Sergant Maza, Derek. I'm sorry to see you all under these circumstances." 

" Just tell me, who shot my sisters?" 

" Witnesses say Elisa braced Tony Dracon at the Park Manor. He stole an armed shipment, and she was pretty determined to get those guns off the street. Our guest is one of Dracon's men who broke into Elisa's apartment later and shot her and Marina with Elisa's gun. Drakon may even have done it himself. " The chief explained to the Maza family as Brooklyn and Goliath heard everything of what happened. 

" Are there any prints on the gun?" Peter asked. 

" Some, but they are so badly smudged they don't even look human. Whoever the shooter is will find him. No one hits a cop and their family and gets away with it. No one." Maria tells the family that she will not stop until the police find the shooter.

" I think we should let them sleep." Diane tells everyone as they agree with her and leaves the room. 

Brooklyn and Goliath made sure the coast was clear and came inside the hospital room. Goliath came to Elisa's side as Brooklyn went over to Marina's. 

" Keep fighting, Elisa. Don't give up. Come back to us." Goliath said to Elisa as he held Elisa's hand. " Know that I'll finish what you started. I will find the man that did this to you and Marina, and I will make him pay." Goliath's eyes turn white as he is felt with rage inside him. " Brooklyn, stay with them as I go out to find the man who did this." 

Brooklyn nodded his head as he held Marina's hand in his claw. " Once you find him, make sure you give him what he deserves." 

Goliath nodded his head as he left the room and went to go and bring justice to Marina and Elisa. 

 Brooklyn looked back at Marina as he was so scared. " Please, fight. I can't lose you, Marina." Brooklyn said as he couldn't help but cry. Tears came down his face as he let out his pain. 

In Marina's dream, Marina heard water and went over to see where it was coming from. Marina kept on walking until she found this magical place. 

Marina had no idea a place like this would exist and maybe even didn't want to leave. Once Marina made it to the waterfall, she looked at her reflection and found herself wearing a beautiful dress and headpiece. 

" Whoa, where did this come from?" Marina asked herself as she looked at the detail of her dress and headpiece. Marina didn't think she could feel this peace until she heard a voice. 

" Marina, can you hear me?" 

" Hello? Who's there?" Marina asked as she tried to find where the voice was coming from.

" Please don't leave." The voice started to move far away as Marina got up and chased the voice.

" Wait, come back!" Marina kept on running to find the voice, but then, in her dream, Marina found herself in a dark forest. Marina didn't know where she was. She was feeling so scared she couldn't breathe. All of a sudden, the tree branches moved and grabbed Marina's arms, and she couldn't get out, including this screeching sound that was coming all around the forest. 

The sound was coming from Elisa's monitor. Elisa was going into code blue. Brooklyn quickly left the room and had no choice but to stay since he didn't know what was going to happen, but he felt scared. The doctors came into the room and had to use the paddles to get Elisa's heart to start back up. But then Marina's monitor started to go off, and Marina was going into distress. The doctor used some medicine as Brooklyn could feel his heart racing with such fear in his heart and couldn't do anything. But then Marina's heart monitor started to calm down, and she was going to be alright. 

Later that night, Broadway and Goliath found each other at a warehouse that was selling guns to the people on the street. 

" You're just in time to help me deal with the one who shot Elisa and Marina." 

" What?" Broadway asked as he was confused.

" Oh, that's right, you don't know. Elisa and Marina have been shot. And the human responsible is in this building. Come, there's no more time for talk." 

" Right." Broadway knew he was the one who shot Elisa and Marina and felt terrible someone else was going to be taken the blame for it. Broadway didn't want that to happen and needed to tell Goliath the truth. 

Goliath and Broadway made their way to the warehouse and dodged the lasers as they were being attacked. Goliath used his claws to take out the powerbreaker. Dracon's men tried to shoot at Goliath and Broadway, but they kept missing. Dracon hurried upstairs to get away, but Goliath made it there and was going to attack Drakon. 

Broadway needed to stop Goliath before it was too late. " Goliath!" 

Dracon nearly fell off the ledge until Goliath grabbed his leg. 

" You are the one who shot Elisa and Marina Maza." 

" What?" Dracon was confused about what Goliath said. 

" Goliath, no! You can't kill him." Broadway climbs up and hurries to Goliath's side.

" You think not, Elisa and Marina will have their revenge through me." Goliath was about to destroy Dracon. 

" But he didn't shoot them. I did." Broadway tells Goliath the truth, and he is shocked to hear this. 

" What?" Goliath said.

" It was an accident. I was looking at Elisa's gun, and it went off. I'm sorry." Broadway covered himself with his wings as he felt terrible but couldn't lie to Goliath. 

Goliath used one of the bars, wrapped it around Dracon, and took him to his men as Goliath and Broadway did the same to the men.  It didn't take long for the police to arrive at the scene after Goliath destroyed all the guns so no one else would ever get their hands on them. 

Soon, Goliath and Broadway made it back to the hospital to find Brooklyn staring out the window to watch over Elisa and Marina. 

" Brooklyn, did anything happen while we were away?" Goliath asked him as he landed on the ledge. 

" Both of the girls had some kind of episode, but the girls are alight now. Goliath, it was so scary. I thought Elisa and Marina were going to be gone..." Brooklyn couldn't help but cry once more as Broadway wanted to tell his friend the truth. 

The Maza family sat both by the girls's side as they waited for them to wake up. 

" Mom?" Elisa said as she started to wake up. 

" Elisa." Peter said happily.

" You're awake." Derek smiled to see his sister awake.

" Oh, thank goodness." Diane said so happily. 

" How do you feel?" Derek asked Elisa. 

" Lousy I guess. What happened?" Elisa said as she tried to stay awake.

" That's what we would like to know." Peter said. 

" Captain Chavez just called. Dracon has been arrested. For grand theft. They found him in a warehouse with Xanatos's guns. All of them were destroyed. He was babbling about monsters attacking him and his men." Derek explained as Elisa figured out it was her friends, the gargoyles stopped Dracon.

" You have to leave now. She's passed the crisis point, but she needs her rest." The nurse tells the family and they are relieved. 

"But what about Marina?" Diane asked. 

" Marina?" Elisa asked as she looked over to see her sister in the hospital bed.

" When you got shot, Marina got attacked as well." Peter explained to Elisa. 

" But she's going to be alright well, right now, she's just asleep." The nurse tells the family.  

" Oh, thank goodness." Elisa takes a breath as she is relieved her sister is alright.

" Now, let's leave these two to get some rest." The nurse tells the family. 

The family leaves Elisa and Marina's room to let them rest as the gargoyles come inside to see them. Broadway and Goliath went over to Elisa's bed, and Brooklyn went over to Marina's bed. 

" Hi, guys." Elisa looks over to her friends as she is happy to see them.

" Elisa, it was all my fault I was playing with your gun, and it went off." Broadway tells Elisa as he apologizes to her. 

" What?" Brooklyn looks at Broadway as he finds out the truth.

It was an accident, Brooklyn. I swear I never meant for this to happen. I'll never touch a gun again." Broadway said as he held Elisa's hand.

" I should have been a lot more careful about where I left it. We both made mistakes." Elisa said as she felt tired. 

" Yeah, but you and Marina nearly paid for those mistakes with your lives." Broadway said as he still felt terrible.

" Then let's not repeat them." Elisa smiled as they both agreed to move forward.

Brooklyn wanted to yell at Broadway, but he knew Broadway would never harm the girls, not even a little. 

Marina started to wake up and saw a shadow figure she didn't recognize at first, but then her sight became clear.

" Brooklyn?" Marina tried to stay awake as she felt Brooklyn's claw holding her hand.

" Oh, Marina, thank goodness you're alright." Brooklyn felt relieved as he held her hand. 

" Where am I?" Marina asked. 

" You're in the hospital, but you need your rest. Everything is going to be fine. Your family was just here, and they'll check on you and Elisa soon." 

" Elisa?" Marina questioned as she looked over to see her sister in the hospital bed she wanted to know what happened but felt too tired to talk right now, and she saw Broadway coming over to her bed.

" Mari, I'm so sorry." Broadway said as Marina smiled softly. 

" It's alright Broadway, you can explain everything to me later. We all need our rest." Marina said as she started to fall asleep again.

" She is right. Come, let us let them rest." Goliath said as Broadway and Brooklyn nodded their heads to let the girls sleep. 

"Goliath..." Elisa tries to talk to him.

" Shh... sleep now. You're safe now." Goliath carcasses Elisa's cheek softly and heads out the window. 

" I'll be back soon. I promise." Brooklyn said as he let Marina sleep. 

 Marina nodded her head as she and Elisa fell back asleep into their dreams as the gargoyles went outside on the ledge of their room to guard them with their lives.
