Mob
"So your Moms are like.... the mafia?"
Steven sighed, running his hand through his carefully groomed hair, which was sure to upset Pearl when she came back from the store.
"That we are. The Crystal Gems.... or the mafia. I like calling us the mob. Makes us seem cooler." Amethyst walked up into Steven's "room" and plopped down next to the two kids. Connie turned back to Steven, sliding away from the squat woman beside her. Connie wasn't sure what to make of this. Steven didn't seem like the type of person to be a part of a gang.
"Are you... like... a member of the mob too?" Connie rubbed the back of her head, averting her eyes from Steven's face. She was afraid that he would say yes. Connie knew they wouldn't be able to hang out again if he was. Even if she didn't tell her mom, Mrs. Mahashwaren would find out. Besides, her father had finally become a policeman. She could get him fired by just knowing Steven.
"Well, my Mom, Rose Quartz, was." He tried to catch her eye, but Connie was still looking away. "But I guess I'm not technically a member until I'm 16..... So..... no?"
"Cool." Connie's face broke out into a wide grin. She had found a loophole.
"Hey, Amethyst," Connie hesitated, nervous that she had addressed the woman incorrectly. "Ummm... is your name actually Amethyst, or, can I call you Ame..."
"Dude. No sweat. Amethyst is fine. Imma go get some food. You want any?"
"YES PLEASE!" Steven exclaimed.
Connie was surprised with the tough woman's flippant response. All of the gangster movies she had watched suggested that the mafia was uptight and particular with which titles they would be referred to. This gang was..... Different.
-------------------------------------------------------
Pearl arrived home about an hour after Amethyst left, a giddy smile crossing her face when her cold eyes laid on Steven and his new friend. Her demeanor instantly changed to that of a proud mother's, exclaiming how simply wonderful it was that he had a new friend, and that she must know the girl's name.
After Connie introduced herself, the tall woman layed down the groceries to shake hands, exchanging a surprisingly strong handshake.
"Shall I make you some food?" Pearl beamed while smoothing Steven's hair from the behind him. She was too excited to chide at him for his lack of personal hygiene.
"No, Amethyst was supposed to get us food, but I think she forgot." Steven said, trying to word his responde so he didn't throw Amethyst under the bus.
"Of course." mumbled Pearl, rolling her eyes and pushing her peach-colored hair off of a light colored oval on her head, the color shimmering in the dim lighting. Connie started to stare, intent on finding out what that was on her head, and how it got there. Pearl didn't seem like the type to get a tattoo.
"WHAAAAAT UP CHUMS!" Connie startled as a loud bang echoed through the house
as Amethyst's raspy voice reached their ears. "I BROUGHT PIIIIZZZAAAAAAA!!!!! Oh and Garnet's with me."
"Sup." Garnet's voice cut through all of her counterpart's noise, nodding to Connie. "You must be Steven's friend.
Welcome to our temple."
Heyyyyyyy! Thanks for reading. I had a really hard time with this chapter because (as I've mentioned in my profile a bunch) of writing block. Words are just super awkward.
Anyways, I wanted to ask what ships should be in this book. I'm setting it up for Amedot and MysteryPearl (Get it?). Other than that, request any ships here.
You are amazing, and remember to do something nice for yourself today! Bye!
