At School

Today was Steven's first day at school.

He was reaaallly excited, just being able to convince his moms to let him go, especially because of this girl he always saw leaving the school as he sat in his favorite restaurant.

There was only a week left in school, but because none of the people in the gang ever actually went to school.

So Steven was getting ready, and his mom's were him up, fussing over his poofy hair, trying to get it to lay flat over his head, giving him the sleek look that would intimidate the bullies.

As if his affiliation with the main members of one of the fiercest gangs in the city wasn't enough.

"C'mon guys, I'll be fine."

Pearl tutted, and kneeled down to his height. "Alright Steven. But remember, nothing is more important than your safety."

Garnet ruffled his hair. "Go get em' Tiger."

As Steven walked out the door, he heard his moms arguing about how they just spend 15 minutes on his hair, and how a certain one of them shouldn't have messed it up.

School was actually pretty cool. Steven didn't mind the boring classes, he just wanted to be around people his age. Especially the girl he learned was named Connie.

"Hey. I'm Steven." He approached her during their lunch hour, finding her sitting alone at the end of one of the long tables dividing up the cafeteria.

"Connie." She looked back down at her book.

"Uh... What book is that?"

"Unfamiliar Familiars."

"Cool."

Steven started to eat his pre-packed lunch, with every thing perfectly symmetrical. He smiled, knowing that Pearl had packed it just for him. He kept glancing at her all though lunch, trying to find different ways to talk to her. He tried food, science class. He even tried asking her where the bathrooms were. Nothing worked. Looks like he had his work cut out for him.

The next class was history. They had to act out a specific event in history, in pairs.

So when the teacher told them to split up, he rushed over to Connie, and asked her to be his partner, and all he got in return was a "Sure."

The two of them had a day to work this out, and could go anywhere in the school to work on it. The two of them chose an abandoned classroom.

And Steven accidentally locked the door.

They were stuck together in the bubble of a classroom.

"HELP!!!!" Connie banged on the door, hoarsely crying out, hoping someone, anyone could hear her. Then she kneeled down and started to cry.

"I...I don't have any friends. Steven. No one will miss me when I'm found alone, dead and shriveled up in this room. IM GONNA BE EATEN BY WORMS!!!" She started blubbering, and only stopped when Steven came over to give her a hug.

"I want to be your friend."

When Steven come home late that day, the Gems were relived to know that he was okay.

"And how was it?"

"Great." He walked into his "room" grinning like an idiot.
