Chapter Ten

Who's Loving You

Cherise opened her sisters bedroom door seeing her sleep peacefully. She closed the door softly and exited the home.

"Why can't you just go inside his club and audition to be a stripper?!" The detective asked her.

Cherise shook her head no, "Because he already knows what I look like. I'm not a stranger to him."

Detective Watts rolled his eyes. He knew that Cherise had to be fucking him in some way.

"How?"

"He knows my sister, they're friends. She doesn't know anything." Cherise said.

She didn't want Chantel to be involved. But now she had no choice but to tell her sister and get her to help.

"Detective, we need you on a investigation. Something about a shooting inside a apartment building." His partner, Detective Masons said.

They left Cherise to think in the office. Detective Watts wanted Julian behind bars so bad. Words couldn't explain his hate for Julian.

Once they reached the scene, Watts showed his badge and watched as they put a girl into a body bag.

"What happened?"

"Suspect's name is Remy. Shoot several times." The forensic scientist said.

Watts nodded his head and scanned the area. No sign of forced entry, so the suspect knew the killer.

"I wanted everything wiped for prints!" Watts yelled.

So they wiped everything down and stuffed it in an evidence bag. Hopefully Julian's prints weren't anywhere in the building.

Chantel slept in English class while Tiny twirled her mechanical pencil through her fingers.

"Miss Davidson!" Mrs. Pratt yelled making Chantel open her eyes.

"Yes." Chantel said as she sat up.

The class looked at her and laughed. Everyone knew that Chantel was hanging out with Julian. But no one said anything about Julian's girl.

"Could you please answer the question. What can you feel without touching it?" The English teacher asked leaning on her desk.

Chantel sighed rolling her eyes. She just wanted to go to sleep. She realized she couldn't hang out with Julian late at night anymore.

Tiny looked at her friend next to her. Tiny thought that Chantel was hanging with Julian too much. She was happy Chantel was happy, but missing school and sleeping in class wasn't a good look.

"Emotions. You know like if you get mad, you might get a headache or feel pain in your chest or cry. Stuff like that." Chantel answered.

Winter was starting to roll around and Chantel was just happy that they were gonna be on break soon.

Mrs. Pratt nodded her head before moving on. The class was discussing something from some author that Chantel had no idea about.

"Aye!" Tiny whispered.

"Hey girl." Chantel said sending her a finger wave.

"Was you with Julian last night or something?" Tiny asked concerned.

"No, my sister told me I couldn't see him anymore and I couldn't sleep last night." Chantel said.

As the bell rang, each student packed up and left the classroom. However the teacher wanted Chantel to stay behind.

"Yeah, Mrs. Pratt?" Chantel asked holding her books in her arms.

"Is something going on at home? You've been slacking in a lot of your classes. You skip and sleep in my class. Am I that boring?" Mrs. Pratt asked.

Chantel giggled, "No. I just couldn't get any sleep last night."

"I suggest studying more. And try to actually read the book, Chantel. You went from a A to a C minus." Mrs. Pratt said.

Chantel's heart dropped. She didn't need for her grades to slip. They would receive report cards later that day, and she knew that Cherise would flip her shit.

"What the fuck is this!" Cherise yelled as she read her sisters report card.

Chantel flinched. She never knew her sister would be so mad about something so small.

"It's just two classes. I can fix it. I already asked for extra credit." Chantel said trying to fix it.

Cherise shook her head. She had no problem with letting Chantel have a boyfriend, just not Julian, and as long as her grades didn't slip.

"No! I will not have a dumb sister! You do what you gotta do!" Cherise told her before leaving.

Chantel crossed her arms over her chest. She knew what she had to do. So she put her coat on and left to take the bus to Julian's house.

After a bus ride, Chantel emerged into the neighborhood. She walked quickly to get out of the cold.

She knocked on the door twice before Demetri opened the door. He smiled at her before letting her in.

"Is your brother home, the oldest one." Chantel geeked.

"He's upstairs."

Chantel went upstairs and found Julian's room. Once she opened the door, she found him packing a bag.

Chantel gave him a look of confusion. He looked at her as silence filled the room.

"I can't see you for a while." Chantel said looking down at her chipped nail polish.

Julian bit his lips. He needed to leave the country for a little bit. Julian had seen the investigation on television and he didn't want to get caught.

"How long you wanna take a break for, ma?" He asked her as he closed his suitcase.

"Until I get my grades back up. My sister freaked out about it. I just can't deal with distractions-"

"So I'm a distraction now?" Julian asked chuckling.

"No. That's not what I meant. Look I just need space and then I'll come find you." Chantel promised.

Julian shook his head no. He didn't wait on anyone. If Chantel wanted to leave, he would give her the okay to leave.

"Just go. I don't wait up for anyone. It's ether you want me or you don't." Julian said.

Chantel's heart dropped. She knew Julian was cold, but not this cold. Chantel watched as he lifted the suitcase.

"Where are you going?" She asked.

"Why should that matter to you?" He sarcastically asked.

And so Julian left Chantel that day. She went back home and started her homework. A pile sat on her desk that she needed to finish.

And she didn't even shed a tear.
