Chapter Five

Roses Are Red

That afternoon Chantel sat in her room finishing some homework. After she finished she laid on her bed.

Chantel still ignored her sister. Alicia Keys played through her phone. Chantel wanted to speak to Julian so bad.

"Telly! I'm leaving I'll be back!" Cherise yelled anticipating her response.

Chantel ignored her sister. Chantel heard the slamming of the front door and knew her sister was gone.

A minute later knocking sounded at the door. Chantel rolled her eyes as she walked down the wooden steps and opened the door.

"Who the-" Chantel was cut off by seeing two dozen roses at her feet.

"Aww." She said picking them up and looking down the street.

She didn't see anyone. She closed the door and looked at the white card with writing on it.

Roses are red
Violets are blue
Out of all the women in the world
I like you- Julian

Chantel laughed at the corny poem Julian had written. She put the flowers in a vase and went back upstairs.

Chantel decided to pick up her phone and call Julian herself. It was time she called first. Julian picked up thirty seconds later.

"Chantel baby." He said slowly smirking.

Chantel blushed, she knew he was smirking. They talked for a few minutes, mainly describing their day to each other.

"Come out with me tonight." Julian demanded as he drove around the suburbs.

"But it's Friday. I wanted to chill and eat some food." Chantel whined.

She never left the house over the weekend. But she honestly wanted to spend time with Julian. However Julian was making Chantel go out with him whether she liked it or not.

"Chantel come on. It'll be a indoor pool party. I gotta have you with me." Julian pleaded.

Chantel rolled her eyes. She knew she wouldn't be able to fit in her old bathing suits.

"I don't have a bathing suit." Chantel said biting her thumb nail.

"Come on so I can take you to the mall." Julian said.

Chantel rubbed her eyes as Julian hung up. She still had her bonnet on and her night clothes. She sighed making her way to her closet.

After taking out her twist she fluffed her curly hair out. Chantel then put on some jeans and a tee shirt.

Thirty minutes later she could here Julian knock on her door. She texted her sister letting her know she was leaving and then she met Julian outside.

"Damn girl I know you hot as fuck in them jeans." Julian said watching her ass.

Chantel rolled her eyes. "Man whatever."

Julian smacked her butt watching it giggle. Chantel jumped on impact. She gave him a look letting him know that was disrespectful, but she lowkey liked it.

***
Chantel and Julian entered the pool hand in hand. They were both matching. Chantel wore a yellow one piece that had cuts on the side with a black cover up.

Julian had a black white beater in with his yellow swim trunks. They both looked like a couple.

Chantel didn't want to wear the color yellow. It made her stand out. She was already light skinned. She didn't need anymore attention.

Chantel noticed all of the slim thick girls and skinny girls walking around comfortably. Chantel immediately pulled her cover up down even more.

Chantel and Julian sat down on one of the beach chairs. Julian noticed how quiet Chantel became.

"You look beautiful." Julian said kissing her hand.

"Thank. Did we really have to wear yellow?" She asked.

"Yes we did."

Girls scanned Julian as they walked past him adding a extra swish to their hips. Julian didn't look at any of them. He kept his brown eyes on Chantel.

He watched her as her beauty melted off her like butter. To Julian Chantel was the prettiest girl at the party.

Chantel didn't seem to notice. She just looked down at her lap.

"Julian!" A older woman yelled skipping over to them.

Chantel looked at the girl in awe. She was dark skinned with flowing silky hair. She was skinny and had a great body. She was Julian's type.

"Oh I missed you!" She exclaimed trying to huge Julian.

"Woah. Slow ya roll shorty. Whatchu doing?" He asked standing up.

Chantel continued to watch both of them. She wondered who the hell the girl was.

"I came back. I told you I was coming back for you! I'm here for good." She said jumping up and down.

"It's good that your back. But we ain't got shit doing on, Remy." He said.

Remy, looked down. She was pissed that Julian had moved on. She looked over at Chantel. They share eye contact for a minute before Chantel looked away.

Remy laughed, "This is the bitch that you left me for?"

"Bitch?" Julian and Chantel said in unison.

"Who the fuck you calling a bitch?" Chantel asked.

She might have been insecure but she wouldn't let anyone call her out her name. She now stood next to Julian.

"You hoe! I swear you do this shit to me every year Julian." Remy yelled creating a scene.

"You been gone since we was fifteen! Fuck you mean." Julian said.

"Just watch ya back." Remy said to Chantel.

"Can we leave." Chantel demanded walking in the direction of the car.

Julian sighed. He was just trying to have a peaceful night and then this shit happened. Remy was an old girlfriend of Julian's.

More like a child hood crush. Julian wouldn't dare go back to Remy. She was too much drama.

By the time Chantel and Julian got back to her house it was quiet.

"I'm sorry that happened." He said.

"Control ya ex's. I don't mind them being present but they better watch they mouths." She said.

"I don't get a goodbye kiss?" He asked.

She pecked his cheek before hurrying to leave the car.

"So much for the fucking roses." Julian said watching her enter the house.
