Chapter Twenty : His Thug; Wounded in Heart
~~~~
Red had ran as far as her legs could before giving out on her, leaving her nearly falling into the cold wet street where she was hit by a carriage. Seeing Sebastian wasn't there, and she was again alone.
She didn't even know where to start on this case, since she knew so little. She was cold, wet, and emotionally done with everything. She just wanted it all to end.
"Shouldn't you be at the Manor?" Spoke a deep voice, one she knew all to well. One she hated hearing, one she swore was dead.
"What's it to you? You damned snake." She turned and meet golden eyes, face twisted and sadistic.
"Oh, pretty little Red is still alive and kicking, tell me, how much does it hurt~?" He had walked closer and gently took her face in his palm, squishing her cheeks.
"It's a shame you killed me, we could have been a happy family you know..." Her cursed sperm donor spoke, but Red pulled away from him.
"Go away!" She had shouted and closed her eyes tightly, hearing nothing past that.
All she could do was lean against the brick wall and rub her head against it, trying to stop the voices.
"I can't... I can't do this." She had whimpered.
"You finally say it! Took you long enough! After the failure you've become!" Her adoptive fathers voice rang in her ears, and she looked out to see her gang, her family, covered in the same wounds they were the night it happened, and blood.
"D-Daddy... I'm not-."
"Don't call me that, you monster! You've damned us all to hell, you're nothing but a snake! You're a liar! You've damned yourself to a grave of sin! You were never my daughter!" He shouted, to which Red began to panic.
"Dad, Daddy no! Daddy Please!" She ran out into the road, and in slow motion they disappeared from her view, and a carriage sped towards her.
"It's game over."
She was pulled out of the way and pulled into someone's arms, she panicking at first but then relaxed once she recognized the voice. Holding onto him and sobbing her eyes out, as he held her against him tightly.
"I'm here, I'm so sorry Red. I'm here." Sebastian spoke, he looking to where the carriage went, wondering if they saw who saved her, or even saw her.
But his gaze quickly fell onto Red, seeing her crumble. All the progress she had, and it was all gone.
"I'm here. Shush now..." He replied, thinking of what to say or do, wondering what would make her feel better. An he knew what to do.
"Hold on tightly." He ushered to her, as his hands picked her up he jumped into the rainy night, escorting her back to the manor.
Once back he had carried her to her room and set her along the countertop in the bathroom, and wrapped a fluffy towel around her as she tried to warm up. Her hair and leather jacket soaked, her eyes dulled as if traumatized or stuck in a horrible nightmare.
He saw her screaming at nothing, acting as if she was talking to someone else, in the end. It appeared she was talking to someone, someone she knew from her other time.
"Red... talk to me." Sebastian ushered and carefully began removing clothing and her shoes. To which she twitched or jumped, as if she zoned out each time.
"There's nothing to talk about..." She whispered and looked down, her hold on the towel tightening.
"There is, and your not telling me. You promised never to lie." He replied, which seemed to make her wake up a bit.
"I saw... dad and the gang, they... disowned me. Called me a monster... and, I saw, I saw that, that snake." She had answered, a single tear falling from her eye.
"They weren't there Red, you must have been hallucinating-." He cupped her forehead with his hand.
"Or running a fever. Are you sick?" He then asked as he removed her leather jacket, her skin as cold as ice.
She looked away and didn't say anything, and Sebastian's patience grew thinner with her.
"Look at me Red." He ordered.
To which she did as told, and she met his gaze for the first time since they fought. How vulnerable and broken she looked.
"I'm not well, am I?" She had then asked him.
"I'm... messed up? I see and hear things that aren't there, I dwell on something I had no control in, I'm trying to fix something I can't... I'm messed up, aren't I?" She asked him, her gaze falling to his hands which rested on her knees.
"Dreaming of the same night, trying to rewrite a wrong-." Sebastian lifted her head with his hands and wiped her cheeks, resting them there to warm them, steadily.
"I'm afraid so." He whispers back, his hands falling to behind her back and pulling her into a hug. To which she nestled against his chest, resting her forehead against his heart, letting her breathing shallow.
His hands gently ringing out her hair and brushing it free of tangles.
"I'm sorry..." She whispered to which Sebastian stopped, his eyes wide.
"I shouldn't have yelled at you, or, anything I said or..." He shook his head.
"It's alright, I didn't understand at first but, watching you turn your back on the Phantomhives made me realize how you felt then, knowing I failed to bring you home it felt all to real." He explained in return, his words genuine and soft.
"You were being honest about my soul weren't you?" She then asked.
He didn't answer at first.
"Yes, but now I'm not so sure."
"The testing me back then, is that what you were doing too? Testing my soul?"
"Yes..."
"But, you aren't now?"
"No, I feel it's better for me to not toy with you as you call it, and instead actually show compassion like you want me to. If that is what you still want? I can drop from this rivalry with Undertaker as well, part of me feels you'd want that. After everything I've done." He answered in return.
"I don't know... you seem, different. An, in all honesty. I don't think I can kill you. Even if I wanted to."
"Kill me?"
She nodded.
"That's what the client meant by protecting my Master?" He asked, to which she nodded again. He softly pushing her shoulders back to meet his gaze. He didn't look angry, just concerned.
"Is that what's been troubling you too?" To which she didn't answer at first but nodded.
"I was conflicted, at first I wasn't even sure and then I was after the room incident, and now I'm not even sure if I can protect Ciel anymore... I'm afraid I'll mess up." She whimpered and he held her tightly again.
She was by no means a threat to him, and she never was to his master, so he saw no reason to punish her for that, especially since she hadn't tried to.
He had really messed her up, and Ciel's words of anger were the pushing point. Undertaker did in a way too, but not nearly as harsh as the Phantomhives had. All her confidence before, gone.
"Let's get you undressed and in a nice warm bath, then to bed. Okay?" He ushered softly, to which she nodded, and carefully stepped off the counter and then looked into his Raven eyes, and she looked to the side.
"Last time I trusted you enough with my feelings you tricked me into kissing you..." She had replied, remembering the night of Ciel's birthday.
"I was a past Sebastian then, now I know better. I'll draw your bath." He had then said, leaving the room to do as he said it would.
Once she was dressed she had sat on the bed, she running a closed fist down her red strands, occasionally running fingers through them. Her gaze looking to the floor.
Her vision a bit blurry and her body feeling cold despite having the whole manor be warmer than a fire place.
She didn't notice it, but Sebastian eyed her wearily, seeing her softly swaying on the bed. An once he walked over and touched her forehead he could feel the fever.
"Just as I thought, you must lay down. You've gotten a cold running around outside." He softly ordered her, but as he pulled the blankets back Red had fallen backwards onto the bed, her eyes closed, as if she had fainted. Her breathing hot and heavy, and soft noises of pain leaving her throat.
~~~~
"She's waking up.." She heard an echoing of voices, as well as the soft beep of a hospital monitor.
"Give me another set of 2 ccs..."
"No time," The sound of charging electric paddles.
"Clear..."
~~~~
Red had gasped and quickly sat up, a hand over her chest as she looked around. Seeing the sun shining outside, and the rain had stopped. Not a cloud in the sky.
She held her head, not having a fever. Another thing, she was in the town house. In her guest room.
She was quick to throw the covers off and try to open the door, but as she grabbed the handle it opened from the outside, revealing Agni and Sebastian.
"Miss Red, you mustn't be out of bed. You had a high fever, please, come sit." He had gently wrapped his free arm around her and guided her back. Helping he sit back down.
"Agni... Why, why are you-?"
"Sebastian asked for my help, he said you had a high fever and wasn't sure how to help you. It was a stress induced one, but you also had a slight chill." Agni set down the platter and then opened the lid, revealing a warm breakfast platter.
"It's best you eat up and rest for today, just for a bit longer." Agni smiled and asked her, he then sitting beside her and brushing her hair like he normally did, he being just the only person she trusted to do that.
"Sohma asked you to help too didn't he?" She narrowed her eyes to the wall, to which Agni shyly chuckled.
"Guilty, but we were worried about you. As was Master Ciel and Sebastian."
Red looked down feeling ashamed.
Sebastian eyed Red again before he poured some warm milk for her to drink, to which she drank a bit greedily. She even made sure to eat enough food to help her recover faster. An perhaps hide the emotions of the vision she saw. As if she was in a hospital, in her own time...
She smelt the scent of it, and heard the voices of doctors, the beeps of monitors. Was this all just a silly dream? Or was there something else going on?
"Agni, can I ask you something?" Red spoke softly.
"Anything Miss Red."
"Have you had a dream, where you were somewhere, but when you woke up you were somewhere else?"
"Yes, it's called astral travel, think of it like dreaming travel, why? Did you have a situation like that recently?" Agni then replied, to which Sebastian keyed in, as quick as Red expected him too.
"I think so... only, there were other aspects involved. I may have to ask for a friends advise on this." She glanced to Sebastian before taking another bite of her food.
Once Agni and her were both done she had got dressed in black tight riding pants, a white collared shirt with she made puffy around her chest and tight around her waist with a low cut brown corset. Then she slipped on the cloak that Undertaker modified for her before leaving the room.
"Miss Red wait! You can't leave, you're still unwell!" Agni called out to her, to which Ciel and Sebastian could hear down the hallway, and of course rushed to intervene.
"Red!" Ciel called out as his eyes meet her own, meeting up with her just before the stair case. An she was quick to turn her head and look away.
"Red, please look at me. I wanted to-."
"No, it was my fault... I over reacted. As I always do. Please, you mustn't apologize like this." She had replied but he held her hands and pulled her a bit.
"No it is my fault. You are a Phantomhive, I was angry, and I can't keep protecting you by not letting you do what I appointed you to do when we meet months ago! So please, you must stay. Sebastian told me everything, how you felt, and everything. Please Red, you're right, you should be there, to protect me. Ever since Jack the Ripper, I shouldn't have let those wounds get to me as they did." Ciel had replied, to which Red's eyes widened a bit and she smiled a bit, kneeling onto on knee.
"Ciel, I don't know what to say...are you sure of this?"
Ciel nodded his head, pulling her softly up onto her feet.
"Alright then, but I have a small errand to run." Red then said.
"Errand?"
"I'll explain on the way, but we must pay Undertaker a visit."
