As a long (very long) standing member of the Tolkien Fandom and its various sub branches; lotr, hobbit, Silmarillion, HOME, Children of Hurin. I have always enjoyed the banter that is shared among our fans. Not everyone gets along and not everyone likes the same things, or even agrees on contentious issues, but regardless of that, we all belong to the one fandom.

One Fandom to Rule them All

No offence to them other fandoms, but they ain't got nothin' on us...we have a dragon HaHa! Okay, bad example.

We have the hottest warrior boys (and girls) in all of literature...HA! Hmm still not the best example...

OH...WE HAVE HOBBITS, Second Breakfast, and THE SHIRE...go put that in yer pipe and smoke it (but if it's not Old Toby you're missing out lads)!

Alright, mischief over, let's get down to some serious Council of Elrond Business.

Gandalf's Challenge

Contests and Challenges are great, we love them, right? Well I know I do, and I've sampled a few and followed a few over the years. At their best they are fun, engaging, inclusive, and educative. At worst they are mean spirited, cut-throat, critical, and elitist.

It's hard to strike a balance when things get competitive, but it's my hope that Gandalf's Challenge will be a positive arena for fans to express themselves through their writing, and through their communication.

It's all about the adventure together and how we assist each other to achieve - not doing a Boromir and trying to strangle Frodo for the prize - not classy bruh.

So, the Challenge will consist of Prompts - either a word, image, description, etc. These will probably be seasonal at the moment, as there is only little old me holding the fort, should that change, or the demand increases, I shall revisit and review.

Entries should be published to your account as a new story, and tagged;

And also the link posted in the comments section - along with the entry form - basically so we don't miss any challengers. The entry chapter will be posted after each prompt so make sure you enter for the right challenge.

If you are a reader and not a writer, don't fret, you have a part to play. VOTES.

A list of the stories will be posted after the deadline date for readers to read (obviously) and vote on their favourites.

You can 'vote' on the story using the wattpad function but since there is no way of checking these votes for error, only those that comment under the comment box of the chapter containing the list of entries, with their votes for first, second, third - will be considered.
