12: Certified fishy
June 24, Monday.
11:15 AM
"Finally!" I, Theo, and Sylvie give each other high-fives and professor Adley pats our heads with a delighted smile on his face. "Shall we go have lunch now then?"
"Yes!" Sylvie squeels. "I've been soooo hungry since I got here!"
"You haven't ate breakfast?" I ask.
"No. Thanks to waking up past my alarm." She chuckles awkwardly.
"So, students. Where do you all want to eat?" Prof asks us.
"I think I'll let Sylvie decide." Since she's feeling so hungry, I might as well let her choose.
"Me too." Theo says after me.
"I want to eat seafood!" Sylvie says giddily.
"Hmm. Sure. Now that you mention seafood, I don't think i've had any of it for almost a year." Prof puts his hand on his chin.
"You dislike seafood?" Sylvie asks.
"No no, I just prefer eating meat." Prof responds. "Anyway, where is the nearest seafood restaurant here?"
"I don't think there is any seafood place here at the plaza, we'll have to go to the mall." I say, looking around for any signs of a place which serves seafood.
"Alright then. We'll head to the mall."
"Calamariiiii heheee." I hear Sylvie giggle quietly and we head over to the bus stop. Well I can't say no to calamari either.
11:40 AM
The mall. A place bustling with people all here for different reasons. Some here by force, some here to shop, and some here to eat. I usually only go here to buy new games or when needed.
As we step inside the mall, I slightly shiver. The cool air conditioned air brushed my skin making me feel cold. I should've brought a jacket.
"What seafood place do you want to go to?" Prof asks Sylvie.
"Err- what was that place called again? The once which had the fish logo?" Sylvie walked ahead of us then turned around, her eyes glancing at me, then Theo, then back at me.
"Certified fishy?" I answer unsurely.
"Yeah! That one!" She turns back around and begins skipping to our destination and we follow.
"I'm suprised you still have this much energy after handing out all those flyers." I tell Sylvie.
"Spread love! Spread happiness! Spread positivity!" Was her response, and I hear prof laugh. "Yes, spread positivity- Li Shin?"
"P-professor Adley?"
A student in our school's uniform stopped in his tracks, a few meters away from us. His hands were in his pocket and he had headphones around his neck. He was tall, had black hair pushed back with what seemed to be hair gel, small eyes and fair skin. Chinese? Though he is a student It's the first time i've seen him.
"I thought you were confined in the hospital?" Professor's mood suddenly darkened. "What are you doing in the mall? You don't seem to be sick. Care to explain?"
Well RIP to you, fellow student.
"L-long story..." The student pauses. Then turns around and dashes away suddenly. Prof sighs and brushes it away, straightening his back and he continues walking to the restaurant.
Well that was quite the sudden event.
"D-don't worry about Shin, Professor Adley." Sylvie laughs awkwardly. "He's always skipping classes."
"That boy is your classmate?" Theo asks Sylvie.
"Yeah..."
"How can you not worry about students like that. A teacher never wants to fail their students, but the students are giving us no choice." Prof points out, and I nod in agreement.
Sylvie frowns and the group falls into a silence till we finally reach the restaurant.
"Welcome ma'am, sir!" A man in the restaurant's uniform, holding the menu greets with a wide smile and pushes the door open for all of us and we step inside.
I once again shiver. The air conditioning of the mall itself was already cold, but even more so was the air conditioning inside the restaurant.
"For four." Prof says and the man leads us to our table. I take my seat. Beside Sylvie and facing Theo.
The restaurant was very quiet. As there were only a few couples here and the only noise being the waiters and waitresses conversing with each other. The restaurant itself however had a bright vibe as it was mostly colored with a sky blue and white, making me feel as if I was a seaman. I don't mind it, but I prefer a more calm and evening vibe. But that's just my preference.
A waiter comes over and hands us four menus. Another waiter comes over and pours water in our glasses and the two leave.
"So what do you all want to eat?" Prof asks us.
"Calamari!" Sylvie exclaims.
"Haha alright, how many orders of calamari?"
"Hmm... Well one for me, but you can order more if the others want some."
"Well, do you two want any?" Prof asks me and Theo. "I'll have some calamari. And smoked salmon." I answer.
"I'll have popcorn shrimp." Theo says and puts his menu down. "And maybe some squid."
"And for drinks?" Prof asks.
"I'm fine with iced tea." I tell prof.
"You sure you just want iced tea? It's me who is paying." Does he really want us to abuse his money? "Fine, I'll have a large strawberry smoothie."
"Same for me!" Sylvie begins to smile evily. "Oh and hey Lydia, do you want share this banana float with me?"
"Err- sure. But that looks quite... Much."
"Yeah, why don't we order one of those for all of us?" Prof suggests and I nod.
"Heh. Fine." Sylvie frowns. "And what'll you have to drink Theo?"
"Apple cinnamon ice tea."
"Alrightyyy." Prof raises his hand to call for a waiter. The waiter quickly comes over to our table with a paper and pen and takes down our order. Afterwards he heads back and for around twenty minutes we small talk till our food arrives and Sylvie begins squeeling in delight. "Calamariiii~"
"Is Calamari your favorite food?" I ask.
"Yes!!!"
"Hahaha well enjoy your food." I laugh as the waiter places our food down. It smells so goooood!!
I could feel the hungry little girl wake up from within me. Especially from seeing the smoked salmon.
"Dang. I should've got myself some smoked salmon too." Prof eyes the smoked salmon, and so did Theo. Sylvie on the other hand was contented with having a whole order of calamari to herself. I and Theo shared ours, While prof ordered sweet and sour fish.
That waiter left. And a waitress came with our drinks, placed them down, and put straws in them. The strawberry smoothies were very cute. It was in a simple glass, but was decorated with a small tropical umbrella.
"Hehe I gotta picture this~" Sylvie took out her phone and snapped a picture. "I'm going to make my classmates jealous muahahaaaa!"
"I can tell that they already are." Prof says and takes a sip out of his regular iced tea. "You seem quite silent Theo? Is something on your mind? Or is it a someone?" Prof asks and wiggles his brows, making me and Sylvie laugh and Theo flustered.
"D-definitely not!" Theo pauses. "I'm just getting kind of nervous for later."
"You'll be alright. It's just people. It's not like aliens are going to abduct you or anything."
"I'm nervouse because they are people! And people are judgemental! What if I mess up?"
"Nooo. Theo, no one will judge you if you mess up!" Sylvie frowns. "Besides, we are all nervous. But we're in it together, ok?"
"Yeah..." Theo looks down at his food and stabs his popcorn shrimp with his food.
12:35 PM
"You all full yet?" Prof asks and we nod our heads.
"Sooo muuuch calamariii~" Sylvie slumps in her seat with a satisfied smile on her face and a waiter comes over and takes our plates away and another comes to replace it with new ones and I, Theo and Sylvie look at what's happening with confusion. And the waiter that left with the dirty dishes came back with a big plate filled with icecream, banana's, sprinkles and such making my jaw drop. We forgot that there was still a banana float. Prof laughs menacingly. "No leftovers or you guys are paying."
And the three of us look at each other, falling pale.
"Well? You three better start eating. We all still have to get home and fix ourselves for the main event."
Sadist teachers!
"Hahahaha..." We all laugh awkwardly. I could feel myself getting a cold sweat as I took my spoon and took a scoop out of the icecream and forced it into my mouth.
