Eighteen.

Samson's POV

I didn't know if the question I asked Anita made her annoyed or just shocked, 'cause after I spat out the question, she walked away without a word uttered. To be honest, I was scared. I didn't want her to be upset with me or see me in a different light.

I made my way to the bus.

Our journey to school was noisy. Apparently, everyone was elated that we won, and I was in no doubt excluded. But even at that, I was worried about Anita. She was moody throughout the ride. Did my question get her upset?

We safely arrived at the school. The bus parked properly. We all got down of the bus and made our way into the school. By the way, school had closed. The principal of the school was still around and he celebrated us. He asked us when we wanted to leave for South Africa, and I told him next week. Anita on the other hand just remained mute, with her face indifferent.

We left the school premises. Anita didn't utter a word to me while we celebrated in school. "Hey Ola. Have you seen Anita?" I stopped him outside the school gate.

"Uhm...yeah, she just left." Oh shit! "Any problem?" He quizzed.

"No no no. Did her driver come to pick her?"

"Yup. Actually, he was out here waiting for her."

"Oh, okay. Thanks man." I turned to leave but he uttered something, which made me halt.

"Apparently, I'm not a man. I'm a teenager." He said rather harshly.

I coughed out a laughter. "But you'd eventually grow up to be a man. Or do you wanna remain a teen forever?"

"I also have a name, Ola. Call me by my name." He was making a fuss out of nothing. I mean, whatever he was doing now was just so unnecessary.

"Okay, okay. Sorry Ola. I'm sorry."

"Aw!" He cooed. "Apology accepted. So you're going home?"

"Yeah yeah. See you tomorrow." I shook hands with him and after which, I scurried off.

Now would have been a better time to have a phone so I could call Anita, but I didn't. So unfortunate.

I got home feeling a little down. I was down just because of a girl. What the hell! I'm supposed to go to school and focus on my book, not to chase after a girl I would never have.

I flung my bag pack on the living room chair. I wasn't so happy honestly.

After eating, I changed into a Manchester united Jersey. Done with that, I went out to play football just to take my mind off Anita. While playing the ball, I took off my Jersey 'cause I was sweating profusely. "Guy," someone tapped me on the shoulder while I was resting. "Your babe is calling you." He pointed at my back view.

I turned back and saw that it was Fatima. I rolled my eyes and scoffed. "She's not my babe." I muttered at the guy.

"No vex."

"Whatever." I got up and wore my Jersey. I strutted towards her. "Hey." I was obviously not in the mood.

"Hey dear. How are you doing?" She broadly smiled at me.

"I'm fine." I soberly replied.

"Why won't you? When you're hot!" She ogled at me. My Jersey was clutched to my body 'cause of the water I poured on myself, hence, revealing my abs and muscle.

I gave her a disdained look. "What do you want?"

"You." I found her and her reply stupid. "I want all of you."

"Are you going to talk or I should leave?"

She rolled her eyes at me. "Why are you always frosty with me?" She said in an almost hurt tone.

I heaved a sigh. "Can we not do this now, please?"

"Okay, okay. So...can we go to your abode?" She let out a grin.

"No, we can't."

"Why?"

"Is it your house? See, I'm busy." That said, I left her midst. She was so disgusting.

She called me back severally, but I ignored.

After done playing with my buddies, I went to my house. It was already five in the evening. My mum and sister were back. There was even light.

"Good evening ma." I greeted mum who was in the living room sitting down watching TV, with a wrapper around her breast down to her knee.

"Where are you coming from?" Her tone wasn't friendly.

"I went to play football."

"So you cannot sit down and read your books, ba?"

"I read a little." I lied. "Anyways mum, we won o."

"Won what?" She looked obviously confused.

"The competition na."

"It's a lie. Hey! Thank you Jesus!" I laughed at her mood suddenly changing. I knew it was going to make her happy instantly, anyways. "So where's our gift?"

"Which gift?" I threw myself on the sofa. I was fatigued.

"The school didn't give you guys gift?"

"When we won, we were given gift sha. Two million naira with some school equipments. Also," I paused for some moment. "Anita and I are travelling to South Africa next week. It's just for a week though."

"It's a lie!"

"Are you serious?!" Sarah rushed to the living room. They seemed ecstatic to hear this one in particular.

"Yes!" I was happy myself. I'd never left outside of Lagos state, not to talk of outside the country. This was just a great news.

"Wow! I'm so happy for you." Sarah said.

The next day, I woke up quite early to prepare for school. I was excited to go to school today. I was sure gonna get a lot of congratulations from students.

I put on my ironed uniform and wore a little perfume. Then, I zoomed off.

I got to school very early. In fact, when I entered the classroom, it was only one student that was inside. It was a girl. She was sitting at the front seat.

"Hey." I muttered a word of greeting, before passing her and going to sit down.

"Morning." She greeted. "Yeah, congrats on your win yesterday." She turned back to look at me, with a smile graced on her small face.

I smiled genuinely. "Thanks."

Minutes later, students started trooping in. Ola also walked in, but Susan and Anita didn't. "Where's Anita?" I asked Ola immediately he sat down in his seat.

"Good morning." He said instead.

I mentally rolled my eyes. "Yeah, morning. So...where's Anita?" I asked rather impatiently.

He turned back to look at him and hesitated. He then pouted his lips. "I just got in." He said curtly. "Besides, you've been asking this same question since yesterday."

"Oh, sorry. I...never mind."

"Anyways, she's outside with Susan. They went to buy something."

"Thanks."

"Any problem?"

"No."

Some seconds later, they strolled in. My heart skipped as I saw Anita laughing, while walking in. Her face was glowing than ever, which made me lost in sight. She sat down on her seat opposite mine without uttering a word. In fact, she pretended not to see me. I gulped and rubbed my palms together. I was afraid that if I spoke to her, she'd just slap me or glare at me or do something of the sort that might hurt me.

I then summoned the courage to at least greet her. "Hey, good morning."

She totally snubbed. "Ola, have you seen the latest video that's trending on YouTube?" She said to Ola who was sitting in front of her.

Ola turned to her in enthusiasm. "Yes!" He gushed like a lady. "Wizkid and Tiwa! Oh my God!" I knew what they were talking about. The new fever video that Wizkid just dropped.

Anita laughed heartily, and I gazed at her dreamily.

I sighed. I was hurt that she snubbed me, but I didn't want to give up just yet. "Hey Anita. I..." I swallowed hard. "...I am so sorry about yesterday. I..."

"Ola, can I come to sit with you?" She cut me off, yet snubbing me again. Ouch!

"Come come come!" Ola squealed like a stuck pig. She hurried to his seat, and they began their gisting.

During assembly, they brought up on stage Anita and I to the whole school, to acknowledge and celebrate us. I was overwhelmed by the applauds and cheers we got.

Immediately we got to class, Anita switched place with Ola. She was sitting in Ola's place, and Ola in hers.

"What's going on between you both?" Ola questioned me. "I've noticed the distance since yesterday."

"Shebi she's your friend, ask her?" There was a huge frown on my face. I wasn't happy one bit. How dare she snub me?! Twice!

"I want you to tell me." He protested.

I looked at him and rolled my eyes. I wasn't ready for him now.

"Hey!" He hit my desk.

"Ola, please."

Soon enough, Mr. Kelvin walked in to teach us maths.

While he was teaching, I guessed he noticed Anita's position. "Anita, is that your new seat?" He asked her.

"Yes." She smiled broadly.

"Why?"

She turned back a bit but I wasn't looking at her. I was looking straight, so I didn't know if she looked at me or not. "Well, it's just fun to change sitting position." Her voice was serious and deeper than usual.

"Hmm. Very well then." He continued with his classes.

Break time came. Everyone went out for break, but I was the only one in class. I had my head placed on the desk. I was hurt, sad and...I wasn't even hungry.

I heard a feminine voice from outside saying. "Wait for me, I wanna get something." Then I heard footsteps in the class. I raised my head a bit and saw that it was Anita that entered into the class. I instantly put it down back. I hope she didn't catch my eyes. I looked at her legs from below the desk. She was in her new sitting position. I then contemplated whether to talk to her or not. "Let me just give it a trial again. After this and she doesn't still talk to me, I'm done." I thought.

Immediately she moved out of her sitting position, I raised my head and spoke up. "Anita, please wait." She stopped at her track. "Why...why aren't you talking to me? I'm sorry if what I asked you yesterday got you upset. It was a spur of a moment thing. I..."

She walked out of the class, snubbing me a third time. A fucking third time! Okay, this got me not only hurt but very angry. Who did she think she was? The President's daughter or what? To hell with her! I abruptly got up and ran after her but I didn't see her. Dang it! I wanted to give her a piece of my mind. I was literally fuming.

I walked back to the class angrily. I wish I saw her, I would have given her a piece of my mind. She thought she was being fair with me? Not at all!

Break was finally over. Swiftly, closing time came. Anita immediately packed her school bag and rushed outside, I did same to. I needed to speak with her. Even though I was hurt and angry with her, I...I still liked her a lot, and I didn't want what we just started to end. I wanted us to stay together till we finally say our goodbyes. And that was definitely not anytime soon.

"Hey Anita." I jogged after her. She was walking way too fast for my liking. "Hey Anita, wait up." We got to the school compound. "Hey!" I gripped her fore arm. "Listen to me, please." I said breathy. I was almost out of breath. I inhaled and exhaled harshly. "Listen please." I turned her around so she could face me. Now, she was facing me but not meeting my eyes. "Hey Anita." I said calmly. At the moment, it was a beautiful thing to gaze at her. She was breathtakingly gorgeous.

She took her hand off my grip. I rubbed my face with my both palms. Apparently, she was upset. But why this much?

I swallowed a lump before speaking up. "Anita, I..." I took my hands to touch her again.

"Don't even think of it." I pushed it back immediately. I wasn't ready for a slap. And yeah, first time today she uttered something to me. "Can you please just say whatever stuff you have to say and let me be going. I don't have time for you." Ouch! Even as she said all of these, she didn't for once glance at me.

"Anita, why are you doing this to me? You're hurting me." My eyes was welled up with water. I was pained. "Did I really get you that upset? I'm sorry. Look, I would never ask that silly question again, I promise."

"Are you done running your mouth?" Now she looked at me. "Thank you." That said, she started walking away but I stood her to a halt.

"Guys also have feelings you know." I said. "Thanks for stepping on me this hard. Bye." I walked away, not turning back to look at her.

As soon as I got home, I threw myself on my bed and cried. I was so hurt that I couldn't take the pain anymore. Thanks to Anita.
