Volume 3 {Chapter 11: End of the Beginning}

Mere moments after killing Cinder and laying's Ozpin to rest, Y/N broke through the many floors of the tower with {Demon-Slayer} front and center. The massive sword destroyed the hard concrete floors and walls alike to reach the skies above.

Y/N felt sick, tired, and heavy. These were the symptoms of {Mana Depletion} when all magic has been used up and there are none left. That fight had left him drained and then some.

Not to mention his current level right now. 16x? That was a lot. Probably from the [Quests] he completed and the new ones that came from it.

Anyway, his {MP} was depleted completely and it would take a full night's rest to replenish it so no attacks related to magic.

But, he still has {Soul Energy} and {HP}, thanks to {Enduring Soul}, is replenished so he still has a fighting chance against the Grimm Dragon.

He checked his arsenal to see if any had any sustained damages from his last fight. Shield, Gauntlet, and...

"...I left it below, didn't I?"

Oops.

'...Fuck you.' He clicked his tongue in annoyance and shook his head.

Joker was left behind in Cinder's skull, a blow to signify his seriousness and also, incompetent thinking. What was he thinking? Leaving his most prized weapon behind?

Doesn't matter. He still has the {Demon-Slayer} sword and it can work like any other sword and right now, he's got a dragon to kill.

Speaking of...

*CRASH!*

{Demon-Slayer} broke through the roof of the tower and Y/N saw the dragon circling it as if claiming this as its territory. It flapped its wings furiously and dropped more Grimm essence to the ground, making more Grimm by the dozen. Y/N could see that everyone has been evacuated or about to so it only leaves these two in the skies.

{Wyvern} noticed the flying Huntsman and snarled at his presence. For years, it had been the apex predator of the skies and beyond, claiming most of it its territory. Not even humans with all their metal machines and puppets can take it so to see one radiating power similar to its mistress was enough to make it bellow in rage.

"KRAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!"

Y/N saw {Wyvern} closing in fast and he looked pissed. "Oh damn..."

With no plans of attack and no magic left in him, Y/N would have to resort to using his {Breath of the Sun} to compensate for his lack of magic. The use of breaths and the ability to quickly attack his opponent would be deadly against {Wyvern].

"Title Change: Breath of the Sun user!" The buffs instantly came to and his mind was now filled with the 13 techniques of the breaths. Not only that but his body had undergone some minor changes, like his eyes and lungs. Along with the muscles, he felt like the world had slowed down to a still since his senses seemed sharper now.

Y/N didn't have enough time to dawdle any longer as the Dragon Grimm was now closing on him. But he let it come to him, as he was perfectly still in mind and body.

[Wyvern] barely noticed the changes but didn't pay enough attention. It opened its wide jaws as its sharp teeth, which would be classified as heavily sharpened swords and daggers, revealed themselves to chomp the cocky human.

As it neared the puny Huntsman, it thought of its flesh making contact with its tongue as it thrashed around to escape. Those feelings were enough to make it go closer towards him as it was about to chomp generously at it.

But before it could, Y/N moved.

"{Raging Sun!}"

Within a split second, Y/N grabbed hold of the {Demon-Slayer} sword he was standing on and positioned himself. Drawing a deep and concentrated breath, the sword caught on fire as it moved with the user's will.

The sword was only made to absorb magic, either from its user or someone else's but since this attack uses neither of those then it was just a hunk of charred iron formed into a sword.

Even so, it would do.

Normally, the traditional weapon needed for this is a katana or a curved weapon as it's fashioned to be as swift and deadly as possible and because of that, flat-edged swords like a broad sword would be slowed of a draw and such alike.

But, so long as the wielder is fast and strong enough to slash a weapon with enough precision then the practices would hold.

Y/N slashed twice at the Dragons' mouth, having long anticipated the attacks from its snout to the bottom of its jaw, [Wyvern] stopped its assault and harshly turned to the side as the pain was registering to its diminutive brain.

With this attack, Y/N started to fall with the {Demon Sword} being the only thing keeping him up in the air. But he still had his trusty gauntlet to save the day.

Y/N aimed at the nearest structure and fired his grappling hooks at it, which was Ozpin's ruined office. The sudden tug from the gauntlet made him stop falling as Y/N looked at the fallen dragon.

It fell, hard to the ground and the wound it inflicted upon it was still searing with fire. So, for the moment he had time to observe his surroundings.

When Y/N looked around him from atop of Ozpin's tower, he could truly see it all. Grimm, coming in droves and dozens, with more slowly walking from the Badlands to here. This place, where he held dear moments of training and gaining trust and friendship, was all going to be destroyed.

The world looked black even, without any hope left to scavenge from it. If this is what will come to be, then Remnant will become a desolate planet devoid of life.

And Salem wants this to happen.

Fortunately, he had hope.

Y/N grabbed his Scroll and called in General Ironwood to see what the damage was. It only took a few moments for him to realize that the CCTV was broken from what he could see from it.

With a click from his tongue, he resorted to using {Communication Magic} he implemented for him and Qrow. Thoughts and alike were used to communicate with one another.

'James!' He called out, hoping the connection made it through to him. And thankfully, it did.

'Y/N! Thank Oum your safe!' His voice reached through with surprise. 'After what happened with the explosion on Vale's walls, I thought you died with Ozpin.'

'Not yet. Though, I don't think you weren't wrong with what you said.'

'You mean?'

'Yeah. Ozpin died, saving me from Cinder's attack.'

'... I see.'

'Don't worry, he's been avenged.'

'Well, that's one less spy to deal with. What about Amber?'

'I don't know. By the time I finished killing Cinder, [Wyvern] was already making a mess up here so I don't know what happened to her. All I know is that Salem won't be getting her hands on the Fall Maiden for quite a while.'

'Great work, Y/N. It seems Ozpin was right about trusting you.'

'Thank you, general. How goes it down in Vale?'

'Yes, well. While the explosion at Vale's border caught us off-guard, we were able to evacuate nearly 95% of Vale's residents. The remaining 5% were caught from the blast and Grimm. Don't worry, we got Ms. Belle safe and sound with us.'

'And Beacon?'

'Every staff and student has been accounted for, except for Teams' RWBY and JNPR along with Aigis who have yet to take off from the landing craft.'

'I see. After I'm done dealing with [Wyvern], I'll come and join them. Then, we can discuss where to go from here.'

'Understood. Good luck, Y/N. Ironwood, out.'

The magic that held to their conversation seemed to end, almost like static on television as Y/N surveyed his surroundings once more. This was it, the climax of the entire series. After this night, no one would ever be the same anymore. Those days of silence and innocence seemed to vanish over the course of last week.

It was here that Y/N almost stopped {RWBY} due to how the script suddenly went from a 'feel good' show to an 'adventure/drama' show in an instant.

But whatever happens next, mustn't delay him from his mission. After all, if Ozpin had the balls to end his former lover, then Ruby and Yang would have two mothers by now. The White Fang would still be a peaceful rally for Faunus'. Weiss would have taken the position of the SDC and make conditions beneficial for all. And perhaps, the souls of the two gods would be at peace with one another.

And just in time, [Wyvern], the Dragon Grimm with its mouth scarred and its eyes burning with anger, was flying behind him with its mouth powering up an attack of some kind.

"And just like that, the fight continues!"

With that, the two battled it out across the skies of Beacon. Each attack reverberated around them, the air pressure was too strong for a few buildings to stand. Y/N and [Wyvern] were in a constant state of power, each of them not overpowering the other.

Due to having no magic left in him, Y/N resorted to using the {Demon-Slayer} as his means of attacking, as well as the {Hinokami Kagura} to deal extra damage. Along with his gauntlet and shield, the boy was immovable.

On the other hand, [Wyvern] was absolutely relentless with its attacks. Claws, tails, an energy beam, nothing could surpass this beast of power. Having been dormant for so long had left its battle instincts dull but was still a fierce beast in battle. And unstoppable force no less.

By the time Y/N crashed to the ground, he noticed how greatly his fatigue of no magic was. His body was slacking, almost relying on the magic to sustain itself. The {Gamer's Body} helped alleviate the soreness but it didn't do much. {Gamer's Mind} helped him think straight but there was nothing to do about mental fatigue.

Still, he had to defeat this Grimm as to not allow anyone else to die on its hands. So, he used the black sword like a cane to hoist himself up and pointed the blade at it.

[Wyvern] had also taken serious damage, with serious cuts on its wings and belly. Along with its mouth having long been useless due to the earlier attack on it but it still had the tenacity of a ferocious beast.

But it couldn't fly for long and its strength was waning, and it was sure that annoying human was killed for sure. He put up a decent fight, better than any other fighter it has encountered but it still proved to the superior.

But alas, the human still had some strength left in him. It still had the gall to point its black blade at it, even with all the injuries it received from it.

The Dragon Grimm took a moment of silence, as the human before it displayed courage and strength never seen in any of its lifetimes. Few could do the same but fewer who would stand against its master.

So to see one here before it... it cannot help but respect him.

So, to give this warrior a proper death, [Wyvern] will use its trump card. An ability so devastating, it was the reason mistress told him to sleep for 100 years.

A familiar feeling was charging from within itself, the feeling of energy coursing through its black heart and veins as it slowly rises to its throat, as humans call it, and near its end.

The build-up was big but fast enough to be considered a threat as it opened its slitted mouth and aimed directly at Y/N.

Speaking of him, seeing the massive energy being build-up, Y/N would either have to dodge or deflect the shot. Dodging is easy but where could he go? Assuming that the shot is massive, he can say for certain that Ozpin's tower would be destroyed in one shot so he could go for ground level but with a disadvantage of available platforms.

Deflecting would be hard since that energy is most likely magic naturally created, and with the {Demon-Slayer} sword he could do. But after the last confrontation, he doubted he could swing the damn blade.

So what can he do?

Magic is drained.

The shield is about to break.

No Dust left in Creed.

Joker is left in the vault.

{Demon-Slayer} is too heavy right now.

What about items? What did he have? Does he have something that allowed him to deflect magical attacks?

That suddenly reminded him of something.

"{Golden Fleece!}" The golden armlet Kratos had once used was now equipped on his left arm, behind his shield which he dropped.

And just in time too as [Wyvern] had finished charging his attack. With a loud howl, the Grimm shot its devastating beam. A beam of pure energy was spiraling towards him as he felt it vaporizing the air near him.

This would likely be the dumbest and reckless actions he could ever do, like a protagonist's plot armor, but Y/N didn't care for that. So long as he lived, he was fine with it all.

"AAAAAAAAGH!"

Just as the beam was about to connect, Y/N heard someone behind him and saw...

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!"

Then after that, everything went white.

Qrow had dispatched the last of the Grimm in Vale, officially clearing the state clearly. While the hole Cinder made was certainly big, nothing that Glynda can handle with a sway of her riding crop and her Semblance. It did take some effort to fix it as it was the wall covering a part of Vale but at least there will be no other Grimm charging in the thick layer of concrete.

Ironwood and his soldiers, without the aid of their flagship, had also ridden the skies of Nevermores, Griffins, and to name a few with ease. Mostly from the back-up of Penny, the girl that wasn't killed in the tournament. And thanks to them, the casualties in Vale have been kept to the absolute minimum but that doesn't mean the blame can be forgotten.

Still, in all likelihood, this was the best scenario everyone wished for. Vale was safe, Beacon was safe. The CCTV was destroyed, but repairable.

Now, all that left was-

*BWOOOM*

A sharp sound made itself known around them, making Qrow look at the source. It came from Beacon and it was a huge silvery explosion. He didn't know at the time, but his instincts still kicked in as he knew who was responsible.

"RUBY!"

With a sprint exceeding that of most Huntsman, Qrow leaped from the ground with all of his might and transformed into a crow with the momentum of a bullet. This little gift from Ozpin might be an ass to figure out, but he was glad for the small frame it provided him. Less drag force and all that physics shit.

When he felt himself slowing down, he would flap his wings as hard as he can to stay on the current path and transforming himself back to human and shoot Harbinger to gain some altitude, like Ruby's Cresent Rose.

Ruby. His adorable niece and daughter, the one who looked up to him as a shining example of a Huntsman, the one who wanted to use a weapon like his, the one who would smile against all odds.

The one, who looked like a spitting image of her mother... The one who was lost because of this damn crusade!

"RUBY!"

At long last, he landed nearest the tower. His stamina was drained beyond anything Qrow had felt in his lifetime.  His arms felt like dropping to the ground and his legs wanted to run away. But he still needed to know about that explosion and what caused it, more importantly about the whereabouts of Ruby.

With one last breath, Qrow changed into a bird and flew up the Ozpin's tower, or the remains of one anyway. Rubble was all he could see from up here, not even accounting for the stone-like creature near it.

So far, he saw no one here but this was where the explosion originated, considering that this was the only tall structure nearby.

Changing back, he scoured around to see any remnant of life here, hoping that anything might be of use for the Huntsman.

*rumble*

And that was it. Qrow heard a few stones falling and turned to see a figure slowly rising from it.

Thinking rationally, Qrow prepared his weapon in case it was an enemy. Oum is damned if this was the perpetrator of Ruby.

And thankfully, it wasn't.

It was Y/N, slowly coming out from the rubble, holding an unconscious Ruby in his arm. Qrow's eyes widened in relief for the view of his unscathed niece that he ran to them.

"Ruby!"

Y/N noticed him coming and walked towards Qrow, holding Ruby tenderly. When Qrow fully saw Ruby, he noticed that she was asleep and not moving.

"Is she?"

"Don't worry, she's only unconscious." That set the old crow's nerves at ease. "Although I didn't expect the power of a {Silver Eyed} warrior to be this powerful."

He trailed off, looking at the now supposed petrified state of [Wyvern The Dormant] laying there. When he saw the effect for the first time, Y/N wasn't sure of the power Ruby had in her. But now... that shit was OP.

"Yep, that's Ruby. Always breaking expectations." Qrow always felt proud of her, but now, he was certain of it.

"Heh, yeah..."

Qrow noticed something off about Y/N. Usually, he would immediately cut to the chase but...

"Y/N?"

"Qrow, do me a favor, would you?"

"Huh, what is it?

"... It's about Ruby and the others."

________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

"C'mon! We gotta go!"

"No! I'm not leaving Ruby and Y/N!"

"We can't just stay here! There's too many Grimm!"

"I'm not leaving them, Neptune!"

"Weiss!"

The shuttle slowly rocked, indicating that the window of escape was closing in fast. Neptune had to reorganize his footing for a moment before returning his attention to Weiss.

So far, there hasn't been any word from Ruby nor Y/N, especially after that huge explosion up in Ozpin's tower. But whatever it is, it seems to halt Grimm's activity for a few minutes.

That was the only window they know to escape and Neptune wanted to make sure every one of his friends is safe and sound.

But no matter how much he screamed or shouted, Neptune can't get Weiss to get in. The heiress opted to stay behind to wait for her partner but Neptune didn't want to leave her. Hell, he even wanted to stay with her but fear and loss of control gripped his motives as he desperately wanted to stay alive.

His friends too. Especially towards the scorched champion and the exhausted knight. He didn't know how or why Pyrrha got those burns but that was for another time, and Jaune didn't say anything to him and others, even his own teammates. Whatever happened beneath the school was clearly something but don't know what it was.

Blake left Yang here and ran away, Sun opted to follow her but stayed in fear for his friends. Speaking of Yang, the stump that was her right arm was being treated by Aigis who was constantly healing her while keeping a calm demeanor. He wasn't sure how but, he could feel she also has anxiety as well.

"Leave me here. I'm not going to leave them here!"

"Yes, you are, young lady!"

Weiss' heart skipped a beat as she turned to that dastardly voice. Standing there was a man fitted out in a pure white outfit, even his mustache was white to the point of powder. The only exception of his outfit was the small red handkerchief on his left breast and the light blue undershirt he had.

"Father..." Weiss breathed out that word aimlessly, like a nightmare she wished was only a dream or a vision she never wanted to see. But here, lo and behold, his father, Jacques Schnee was standing there, furious.

Neptune also saw Jacques and wondered how he got here so fast, that was when he turned behind the man and saw a small airship, similar to Winer's, standing there with a few personal guards and butlers at the ready. 'Just how rich is he to have innocent people here?'

"You are coming back to the manor this instant!" Jacque's booming voice brought out Weiss's stupor as he marched to her and harshly grabbed her arm.

"No! I will not leave my teammates behind!" Weiss pulled back her arm from her father and was met with a steely gaze.

"Are you mad? You want to stay here and die? I will not allow that to happen! You are coming back, right now!"

"No!"

"Why you...!"

Jacques whipped his hand back and Weiss knew that movement in an instant. After all, who wouldn't remember a child's first slap?

Fear gripped her heart momentarily as [Za Hando!-] *FWOOOM*

... I am not to blame.

Really, brother?

What? It's a good series.

...Moving on. WITHOUT references.

Killjoy...

Fear gripped her heart as Jacques's hand was about to hit her. The sting and pain were all that she remembers from him and shivered in each of them.

Just as he was about to slap his own daughter, a rough hand stopped him.

"Leave. Weiss. Alone."

Weiss snapped out of her fear when she recognized the voice. The same voice that helped her from initiation, her first day of classes, and first dance. She widened her eyes as it was he who stopped her father's assault and stopped him from continuing.

"Y/N!"

"You brat..."

"I think you need to sleep for a bit."

"What?! You think I'm gonna let you-"

A quick chop to the head was more than enough to knock out the CEO, holding him as he went limp. Weiss's face went to shock as Y/N merely held her father in the regard to that of a corpse.

"F-Father!"

"It's OK. He's only knocked unconscious. He's not dead... yet."

Y/N laid Jacques's body next to him and the next moment after was Weiss hugging him. '... I really need to train more.'

Just as he tried to pry Weiss off of him, she didn't let go. What she did was let out a few tears and sniffles.

"I thought... I thought I lost you..." Her voice was cracked with emotion and what little courage she has had all went down the hole.

She broke down as Y/N kneeled before her, holding Weiss close to him. Y/N sighed compassionately and hugged her softly.

"I'm fine, Weiss. And so is Ruby."

That made Weiss snap her head next to him as Ruby laid there, also unconscious but safe. If anything were to happen to her...

"Weiss, I need you to go to your father." Weiss snapped her head to Y/N in disbelief as the words coming out of his mouth seemed to halt her thinking. "I know it sounds stupid, especially after what I did... but I'm doing this because I want you to be safe. And Atlas is kinda the safest place on Remnant right about now."

"B-But what about you?" Weiss took a look at Y/N's appearance; torn marks on his clothes, soot marks covering his face, and a few cuts that are still bleeding. "Come with me. I-I can help you."

Y/N cracked a smile as he broke the hug. "You're already helping me." With that said, Y/N dashed headfirst back into Beacon, leaving Weiss and Ruby alone.

"Y/N!" Weiss shouted his name as she was about to stand up and fight with him but her weapon was close to Ruby, who was still unconscious near her.

Weiss was now in a predicament that put her between saving her best friend or fighting with her love. This caused her thinking to go into haywire as she tried to think of a solution for this.

Unfortunately, Sun doesn't have the time for this. "Weiss! We gotta go now! Come on!"

Sun's voice snapped her out of the trance she was in and took one last look at where Y/N was. With her mind now overclocking her choices, her heart beat faster than ever to find which one she has to choose.

And ultimately, she made the hardest choice of all.

With a shout of defiance, Weiss hauled Ruby over to where Sun and the others were as Weiss set down Ruby. Sun didn't notice that she brought in Ruby but as soon she was in, he closed the hanger doors of the Bullhead.

And moments before it truly closed, Weiss ran straight to the exit with a small smile gracing her and tears just about to form.

Sun was too slow to catch her as his outstretched arms only grabbed the darkness in the Bullhead.

Weiss made her choice, and it was one she would live to the rest of her days.

Terribly sorry about the update here, everyone. The school was sooooooo annoying that I didn't have time to make this chapter.

So sorry for anything that might irke you.
