Volume 1 {Chapter 7: Jaunedice}

After a fight, the winner takes all the glory and fame and the loser gets shame and loss. The loser is always second but becoming second allows the potential to be first. The fight for the number one spot has always been in the mind of many gladiators in the ring but some do not care. For they do not see it as a victory, only as a means to protect.

Shortly after lunch was the afternoon classes, currently at History. Team RWBY, JNPR, and Y/N were at their seats and were paying attention to the teacher, Bartholomew Oobleck.

{OBSERVE}

NAME: Batholomew 'Doctor' Oobleck

TITLES: The Green Flash, Speed Talker, Coffee Enthusiast, Doctor Oobleck, Historian

WEAPON: Thermos-Club {Antiquity's Roast}

SEMBLANCE: Ignite {Ability to give a fire-shield which increases endurance and make moves fire enhanced.}

FIGHTING STYLE: Traditional

INFO: A Doctor in terms of medicine and history, Bartholomew Oobleck will do whatever it takes to learn the past. From ancient ruins to ruined temples, nothing goes past the Doctor's eye. Applying for a Huntsman was the best solution to study more without the pressure of the law or deadline set by people. His reason for doing all of this: To ensure the past stay the past and the future doesn't follow its demise.

Doctor Oobleck was in the middle of discussing a lesson about the Faunus War, or formerly known as the Faunus Rights Revolution where humankind gave the populace an island at sea. While they were grateful for having a piece of land for themselves, only 20% of the island is made habitable due to the Grimm at the other part of the island.

Jaune sat away from his team and was falling asleep from Oobleck's very fast explanation as his mind can't understand what he was saying at all. Cardin sat above him with his legs propped above the seat. His hands were fine, thanks to Aura, but traumatic scars from Y/N made him use his mace more than his fist.

When Cardin returned, he glared hatefully at Y/N for making a fool at him. Especially at strength since he always believed that was his only strong point but after what Y/N did, Cardin will make sure he exacts revenge for what he has done.

Professor Oobleck then went to the front desk of the class and asked, "Have any among you been subjugated or discriminated against because of your Faunus heritage?"

Few hands were seen, with Velvet shyly raising hers as well. The Doctor merely nodded the answer. "Dreadful, simply dreadful." He even faked a tear but it was well-intentioned.  "Remember students, it is precisely this kind of arrogance that breeds violence."

After a moment of silence and a sip of coffee, The Historian continued. "I mean, look at the White Fang.  Once a peaceful rally against the Council and now, a group of supremacist hellbent of wiping out humanity because of our discrimination against their additional appendages. Now..." Oobleck went to another front desk. "Which one of you young scholars can tell me what many theorists believe to be the turning point in the third year of the war?"

Weiss raised her hand and replied. "The Battle at Fort Castle."

'Da fuk?' Y/N thought to himself at the weird name. Despite it being history, he still questioned the writer when he wrote this. Perhaps a reference to another castle perhaps but nope, Fortress Castle was the name. Like Townsville.

"Precisely." Oobleck then rushed behind his desk to further explain. "The battle was the very first time Faunus took to arms. There they attacked or ambushed numerous human camps and this particular one was the pointbreak."

"And, who can tell me the advantage the Faunus had over General Lagune's forces?"

Y/N looked at Cardin and saw him about to flick a piece of paper toward a sleeping Jaune. Wanting to mess with him, he cast a small {Garu} at the projectile to hit instead of Jaune but on Cardin instead. When it did, he slammed his hands on the table and tried to look to whoever made him a fool once more. "Ah, Mr. Winchester. Nice to see you participating in class. Can you tell me the answer?"

The bully snorted rudely. "Why would I care about a pack of animals?" Then he received the glares from the many Faunus in the room, including Blake. Velvet just had her head down.

"Mr. Winchester." Oobleck's voice was now serious and held an edge against Cardin. "I will not tolerate blatant racism in this class. One more remark like that and its detention." That made him grumble in response and sit down. Y/N raised his hand instead. "Yes, Y/N?"

"The Faunus had night vision. General Lagune attempted to strike while they were asleep but forgot that many Faunus have a near-perfect vision in the dark. He was promptly captured after that as his troops were defeated in the dead of night."

Oobleck clapped his hands slowly at the answer. "Correct. I see you have been studying in your free time, Mr. L/N."

"Thank you, sir but I suggest you give that advice to Mr. Winchester for he clearly needs it more than Lagune." A few snickers from his friends and classmates made Cardin even angrier at Y/N.

"Mr. Winchester, I suggest you stay after class to study up about the Faunus War." Oobleck then went to the sleeping Arc. "Mr. Arc!" His sudden boom in his voice awoken Jaune from his nap and snapped his head towards Oobleck. " I see you have finally decided to listen. Perhaps you and Mr. Winchester study together with me."

"Huh?" A drowsy answer slurred from his mouth when Jaune tried to find out what was going on.

"Unless you can tell me the answer to the question I asked. What did the Faunus have that triumphantly won against General Lagune in Fort Castle?"

Alarms were blaring in his head, trying to find an answer to this conundrum. When he looked at his friends, they were making holes around their eyes. "Uhh... Binoculars?"

The bell rang as everyone stopped talking. Right now, everyone was at the Workshop being taught by Professor Peach. Ruby was particularly excited because it was her favorite subject.

Jaune and Cardin were the only ones not there due to Oobleck's extra classes for the two. Pyrrha wasn't also there because she awaited Jaune to be finished.

Lessons taught by Peach were about the history of weapons and the archaic power they possess so she always warned everyone to not take weapons such as a way to kill Grimm. After that warning, she explained the different types of weapons and told everyone to have a light spar with each other from the various weapons she has.

From weakness to strengths, history, and skills, Peach will always find something interesting about everyday weapons and how everyone can use them to the maximum potential.

"The spear is probably one of the oldest weapons ever constructed using a sharp edge. Back in the early days, the spear was always used as a hunting weapon against prey. I am sure some of you are proficient with a spear but it cannot be helped to throw, can it?" Peach said.

A few confirmed grunts and giggles made her happy, because it is true anyway.

"Now, I will instruct an assignment to you all. Tomorrow, you will go to Forever Falls and collect the sap for a hunting experiment next week. I will ask Ms. Goodwitch to go with you."

And with that, the bell rang. RWBY exited as well as Ren and Nora. Y/N wasn't too far. "Wow, who knew Peach could be so awesome." Yang was a bit surprised when Peach suddenly gave them a school trip.

"It was educational. While the spars were a bit... much." Weiss rolled her shoulders when she attempted to lift a glaive from the ground and try to hit someone. She even used her Glyphs to make it lighter but it was too much for the Heiress. "But it did allow me to gain a new perspective on the weapons."

"I know, right!" Ruby exclaimed, having stars on her eyes. "So many weapons to try, to touch and customize... Aaaaahhhh~" Drooling, she imagined her baby, Cresent Rose, and combine it with every weapon possible in Remnant.

Lightly laughing, Y/N grabbed a napkin and wiped the drool from Ruby. "If you keep on doing that, might as well build a well."

She blushed from the close encounter Y/N was giving her. "S-Sorry..."

"Don't worry Ruby, I'll still visit."

A few chuckles and laughter made her blush more. "Good one." Yang lightly punched his shoulder.

"Anyway, we should get ready," Blake said to the group.

"Y-Yeah. Sure." Ruby said, getting a grip on herself.

"Oooohh. Wonder if we'll see sloths around."

Y/N decided to just go for it. "Hey, Ren." The Martial Artist turned to Y/N.

"Yes?"

"What is with Nora and her addiction to sloths, anyway?"

...

...

...

... A moment of silence wafted around them. Ren then answered with a grave tone. "Trust me, you do NOT want to know."

The silence was all he got. "Oookay then..."

A nod to each other meant trust. An oath to never question it again.

Y/N then walked to his dorm, wanting to finish the day in peace. Opening and locking the door, Y/N then took off his uniform and put on a few looser clothes. Sighing, he laid on the queen-sized bed in his room and decided to do an {Inventory} check.

"Hmmm..." He eyed the {Grimoire} further and decided it was time to take it out now. Checking the door, he grabbed the book.

When he pulled it out, he was a bit surprised to see a chared cover of pages rather than a dignified {Grimoire}. Flipping it over, his eyes bulged out from its socket when he saw an emblem on it. "No way..."

It was {Asta}'s {Grimoire}, the {Five Leafed Clover}. One that contains the {Demon-Slayer Sword}, the Anti-Magic sword. Standing up, he wanted to open it but stopped.

This book essentially had Magic in it. The Magic kept the sword in the book. The same magic that can be detected by Ozpin or Salem and have his identity exposed or worse. Thinking about it, Y/N has a solution.

"{ID Create}." The small box of a dungeon expanded until it his ceiling. When Y/N checked for enemies, he found none at the moment so he wanted to make this fast.

Opening the book, the charred pages with a language unknown scribbled on to it was brought to life. A light came from the pages, glowing blood-red as a very darkened handle appeared, wanting to be pulled from its sheath. When Y/N grabbed it, he pulled the sword hard from the book. Feeling its weight, Y/N looked at the lump of iron in his grasp.

"This is heavy. Well, I guess Asta is pretty buff right now even before the new look." Y/N murmured, whether to take this out of his dungeon or keep it in the book.

Swinging the blade proved easy as Y/N had dealt with the heaviness of Crete for a couple of weeks now but it still proved to be it's equal in a way. "Oh right, there was supposed to be a demon here, right? Wonder why he isn't showing up?"

Maybe because I am testing you.

A deep voice echoed in his head, turning around to whoever said it. "... I see. And how long where you in my head?"

Ever since you hold me. Though, I am surprised. I never would suspect you could hold me, especially since you wield magic.

Then Y/N's head snapped to the sword. He's right, it isn't draining away his magic. Not even the {Magic Emperor} could hold it for long.

There are two things that make you immune to my effect. One, The magic you hold withing is deeply connected to your soul. And the other is you were blessed by a god.

So, tell me human, which is it?

"Hehe.. you got me. The answer is... both." Technically it was two gods who gave him the power so he could guess it was them that made sure his magic wouldn't be stolen. "This magic comes from the depth of my soul and is an extension to myself. Though, I suppose a demon like you would know."

...

...

... The silence was all he got before laughter was heard.

Hehehe, you are interesting. Very well I will be adamant when you use me. Be sure to crush your enemies thoroughly.

The voice then fell silent, as if it was sleeping. Y/N glanced at the Demon-Slayer Sword for a moment before returning it to the Grimoire. "{ID Escape!}" Feeling the effect of the dungeon disappearing, Y/N then put the Grimoire back into his {Inventory} to ensure safekeeping.

"Welp, time to get ready for tomorrow."

Around afternoon was the start of the trip, not to mention it as a Friday so that meant after this students can do anything during the weekends. And as stated Professor Goodwitch is there to lead the class through the Forever Falls to collect the sap as an assigment for next week.

"Yes, students the forest of Forever Falls in indeed beautiful. But we are not here to sightsee. Professor Peach has asked all of you to collect the sap from the trees deep within the forest and I am here to make sure none of you die while doing so." Glynda said to the group of students behind her, making sure everyone is paying attention.

The group with her is Team RWBY, JNPR and CRDL. But Jaune is with Cardin's group carrying a large case with empty jars on top. He accidentally tripped to Cardin's back, which earned him a scowl, and tried to feign ignorance.

Goodwitch wasn't done as she held a jar similar to what Jaune was carrying. "Each of you is to gather one jar's worth of red sap. However, this forest is full of Grimm so be sure to stay by your teammates. We will rendezvous back here at 4 o'clock. Have fun." And with that, everyone dispersed.

RWBY nodded at each other and left on their own, JNPR (without Jaune) also left but Nora was a bit faster than the others as she zipped around. CRDL (with Jaune) walked somewhere else with the case in tow. That left Y/N on his own before he could do anything Glynda went up to him.

"Mr. L/N. Since you are without a team, you will travel with me. Understood?"

"Yes, Ma'am."

"Good now, gather your things and let's begin."

Y/N lifted a few jars in his arms and walked with Glynda around the trees. A comfortable silence rested upon the duo.

________________________________________________________________________________

Minutes later, CRDL and Jaune were behind a few bushes. "Heh, this is good. Hey, Jauney boy." Cardin called out to the wimp of a leader. Jaune then crouched to their level.

"Y-Yeah?"

"Look." He then pointed to what's below them. Jaune saw what he was pointing which made him widen his eyes in response.

It was Professor Goodwitch and Y/N filling up their jars with sap. "Wh-What's going on?"

"Payback. That's what's going on right now. And you will watch it." Cardin looked at his teammates in hatred. "Alright, boys.." He grabbed the case Jaune held with a large 'W' on it. "Last night, old Jaune here managed to round up an entire box of Rapier Wasp. And now, we're gonna put him to work."

Cardin then grabbed his shoulder, whom he laughed nervously at the action. "Now, according to the essays you wrote for me a while back is these wasps here love sweets." Then he shoved a jar of the sap to Jaune, harshly. "And now, this bastard gets the payback he so rightly deserved."

Jaune understood what Cardin was doing. He was about to backstab his friend, his brother, in the back all because he was scared and threatened by Cardin. He hesitated when Cardin made an opportunity for him to throw and Cardin saw it.

"What's wrong? Scared now that your big brother isn't here?"

Cardin grabbed Jaune by his breastplate and brought him to his face.

"Or maybe you suddenly started growing a spine?"

Jaune looked left and right for options to choose from. Anything to stall or warn him. He saw Goodwitch there and maybe that was his answer. "Wh-What about Professor Goodwitch?"

Cardin merely grinned and moved Jaune to see the two together again. There he saw two members of CRDL approaching them.

"Hey, Professor? One of our nozzles isn't working and now it's stuck on a tree."

Glynda nodded at the information and looked at Y/N. "Mr. L/N, stay here for the moment. I will assist students in need."

"Of course, Professor."

And with that, no more authorities. Cardin then shoved Jaune to the front of the cliff they were to make a better shot. "Go on, do it."

Jaune looked at the jar in his hands and at Y/N. He shakily held it as multiple scenarios ran through his mind.

Y/N was covered in wasp and sent to the hospital to treat the venom. Then he he found out it was Jaune and proceded to un-friend him.

Y/N reacted in time and dodged, only to be heartbroken that Jaune was the one to throw it. Later, Y/N has never said a word to him and disregarded that fact he was nice to him.

Y/N caught the jar and threw it back at him. Now, Jaune has to be hospitalized and was expelled for the fake transprints.

Multiple more emerged as Jaune's breath grew ragged. Frustrated, Cardin pulled Jaune to him to snap him out of it. "What's the matter, Jauney Boy? Angry? Frustrated? Afraid? Go on. DO IT!"

"ENOUGH!" Jaune suddenly screamed at Cardin, surprising the bully. "I've had it with you and your bullying! I've done everything you asked and tolerated a lot of things." He then stared at Cardin but didn't know his eyes were glowing bright blue. "You wanted to hurt Y/N. You wanted to kill him. Well, no more. This. Ends. Now!"

With a sudden shout, he then threw the jar of sap at Cardin which smeared it all over his armor. After that, the glowing hue stopped as Jaune breathed roughly.

When his brain pieced together what has happened, Cardin's teammates held his shoulders and made him kneel. Cardin looked at his sap covered breastplate and chuckled slightly. "Alright, so you do have a spine." He then cracked his knuckles and looked at Jaune with an evil glare. "Too bad I have to rip it out of you."

Not far where Cardin and Jaune is, a figure stood. The Forest was nice, peacful even but the figure wasn't there just to sight see. Oh, no he must feed. The creatures of dark were a nice appetizer but the main dish has just arrived.

The figure felt a surge of energy, guessing it was some sort of magical attachment and walked to the edge of the forest to where it felt it. There it saw 5 people, one of them bullying a weaker individual. The figure watched in entertainment as the large teen pressured the weaker one into throwing a glass jar over the cliff they were in and was surprised when the weaker on defied the stronger one.

That's when he saw it, that glow in his eyes. Yes, he remembered that look. Oh, it was the same look that brought his demise by a group of teenagers. That look of sincerity made him chuckle lightly to himself.

"Another one, huh. Another hero..." The figure smiled sadistically at the upcoming fun he would have. "I can't wait till I see that look of disdain in your eyes once more, Joker"
