Eddard Stark- Prove Yourself: Part 1 (c)

"Why?"

Such a simple word but one that had so much emotion forced behind it. Your teeth were clenched in anger, your hands curled into fists upon your hips as you tried to stay composed, not wishing to have your femininity blamed for your heightened emotions as they were a lot of the time. Rarely did you show anger towards your father, the two of you being rather close, and you usually having issues with your mother but today it would be the other parent whom would face your fiery nature.

"Y/N, I said you are not allowed," your father said calmly.

You narrowed your eyes at him. Your father, Eddard Stark, was known for his just and caring nature along with being a good father to his seven children, even to his bastard son. Not once would you question how much you loved and looked up to your father, and everyone knew he had an extra soft spot for you, knowing your independent nature from infancy and fearing the dangers life held to a woman who knew her mind, having married one. It was common for you to have leniency in comparison to your siblings, your father knowing your mind was beyond your age and that you were unlikely to do anything stupid; this only made it harder when he was treating you in a protective manner, refusing you what he had allowed your brothers.

"Is it because I am a woman or are you going to complain it is due to my age. I would like to remind you that Jon and Robb were both allowed to hunt from the fourteenth name day, my sixteenth recently passed," you said pointedly.

"I do not want you to get hurt Y/N. Ask your brothers, I made sure myself or a trusted guard was there for a long time to make sure they were okay when hunting," your father offered as a response.

"And now you trust both to hunt alone. I do not see why there should be issue in you allowing me to accompany them, or to have you take me if that is a necessity."

Of course, you would have much rather have gone hunting with your brothers rather than your father but if it settled his worries then you didn't mind. From a young age you had been taught to use a bow and sword, against your mothers wishes. Your parents didn't want you to learn but you father knew you would sneak to the armoury if not given permission, so it was better to have you trained correctly as there was no way to actually stop you. They both struggled to accept your interests, your father wishing to keep you safe and your mother preferring you to learn the art of a needle, but they agreed you could spar with your brothers if you trained in the feminine arts as well, which you did.

"I forbid you Y/N," he frowned. "That is the final discussion of this and if I hear you speaking of such matters again, you will no longer spar or train in anything larger than a needle."

With a huff, you knew there was no way to fight your father on the matter, but that wasn't going to be the last of the matter, just the last of the discussion. Without bidding your father farewell you exited the room, your elder brother Robb following behind, having witnessed the conversation and taking great joy in the favourite child being told no.

"I guess you should retire to your chambers and darn some socks," Robb smirked.

"You do not know me at all brother," you said, a mischievous grin upon your face.

"Do not tell me what I think you plan to," he sighed.

You nodded your head. "If he cannot believe I can handle myself on a hunt, I shall prove it to him."
