The Reluctant Bride - Tywin x Reader

I know Tywin is a little OOC, but I wanted him to have a bit of a softer side in this.

"NO! I won't do it father, and there is nothing you can do or say that will make me." (Y/n) yelled, pacing her father's private chambers as he watched on.

"You will do as I say (Y/n), we are a small house, and we need to secure an alliance, and what better house to do that with than the Lannister's?" Her father told her, taking no notice of his daughters distressed state.

"But why Tywin? He is old enough to be my grandfather, he is gruff, mean, and rude, with no heart; why would you promise me to him?" She asked, stopping and staring at her mother, pleading for her to interject.

"I did not promise you to him (Y/n), Tywin asked for you; he wants you to be his new wife, and that is what you are going to be, and that is final." Her father said, rising from his chair.

"But why would he want me? I have nothing to offer him. He has three heirs, what does he need a new wife for?" (Y/n) protested, following her father out of his room.

"You are no fool (Y/n) so stop acting like one. You know exactly why a man like Tywin would want a girl like you; you are beautiful, intelligent, strong, and you are a lady from a good house. He may be an older man, but he has the same desires as any other man, and you my dear daughter have turned his head. He may already have three heirs, but like everyone else from here to Kings landing, you know that he has no love for any of his children, especially the imp; you are young and healthy enough to give him as many heirs as his heart may desire, and that is what you will do. You will be a dutiful wife and perform any task that he asks of you; you will give him children, and my grandchildren will carry the Lannister name, and this house will prosper." Her father told her, growing impatient of his daughter's objections.

"You make me sound like some prized breeding cow that is being sold at market to the highest bidder! You may have sold me into marriage to that dirty old man, but that does not mean that I will take him into my bed; and there is nothing that either you, or the great Tywin Lannister will be able to do about it." An irate (Y/n) told her father, as she turned and ran off down the corridors of the castle.

                                                         >>-----------------------------------<<

The days had passed too quickly, and before she knew it (Y/n) was saying a tearful goodbye to her mother. (Y/n) knew that she may not see her mother for some time, if ever again; Tywin was not known to be a sentimental or soft man, and (Y/n) knew that she would probably never be able to return to her homeland, so as she kissed her mother, she took one last look at the only home she had ever known.

The journey to Kings Landing was proving a long, uncomfortable, and boring one, as the only company that (Y/n) had was Anya her handmaiden. Tywin seemed to be against (Y/n) bringing anything or anyone with her from her home, but luckily Anya was a concession that Tywin had made to supposedly ensure the comfort of his future bride. Anya was much older than (Y/n), a kind, supportive and sensible woman that was always by (Y/n)'s side when she needed her and had become very much a second mother to the younger lady.

"It looks like we are almost there my lady, thank the gods." Anya said, as she looked out of the window of the carriage.

"Do you think that the great old lion would notice if we just turned around and head back for home?" (Y/n) asked, nervously fiddling with her fingers.

She had no desire to go to the capital, and certainly no desire to come face to face with the old man that was to be her husband.

"Unfortunately, my lady, I believe that he would notice. Lord Lannister is expecting his beautiful future bride to be with him today, to start her new life by his side; and you know that if we did turn around and go home, your father would just send you back. You know how important an alliance with a strong house is for your family; I know that you would have never chose this for yourself, but maybe Lord Lannister won't be as bad as everyone says." Anya said, taking (Y/n)'s hands in hers.

"I know Anya, but it doesn't mean that I have to like it. My father has sold me like a piece of meat, and I'm expected to do nothing more than breed; well I can assure you that my husband to be will get more than he bargained for." (Y/n) said defiantly as the great city came into view.

Kings Landing was worse than (Y/n) remembered, and she already missed the green rolling hills, and lush forests of her home; it was grey and dark, it smelt, and there were people everywhere, milling around, looking to (Y/n) just as grey as the city. As the entourage drew up to the Red Keep, (Y/n) took a deep breath, not only was the idea of meeting Tywin worrying, but even worse was the idea of meeting his children, especially the Queen.

(Y/n) knew of the Queen's reputation, and she knew that the woman was not going to like the fact that her father was taking a new wife, but even worse was that this new wife was so much younger than the Queen herself. (Y/n) just hoped that his sons would be kinder; she had heard many stories of Jaime and Tyrion Lannister, about how handsome Jaime was, and how intelligent and kind Tyrion was, and she couldn't help but hope that the three would become friends.

As the carriage came to a sudden halt, (Y/n) took a deep breath as the door opened, and a hand reached in.

"My lady." Said one of her father's guards, waiting for her to take his hand.

As she took his hand, he helped her from the carriage, with Anya following behind, straightening her mistresses' gown. Despite what her father had told her, (Y/n) had decided on a black gown that covered every inch of flesh; she was determined that the man that was going to be her husband would not get the opportunity to see any of her, now or ever.

(Y/n) could see four people waiting to meet her as she was led through the courtyard, her eyes instantly falling on the older man, and the angry woman by his side.

"My lady, you will be fine. We are all so proud of you; don't let these Lannister's know that you are nervous, be dignified, always hold your head up high, and remember who you are." The guard told her, squeezing her hand tightly as they came up the quartet.

"My Lord Lannister, may I present the lady (Y/n)." The guard said, bowing to the elder man, whose eyes had not left (Y/n).

"My lady, may I say that you are even more beautiful than when I first laid eyes on you." Tywin said, taking (Y/n)'s hand, and kissing it gently.

(Y/n) cast her mind back, trying to think of when the lord could have seen her; she had only been to Kings Landing once before, when King Robert had thrown a celebration, and her parents had sent her to the capital in hopes that she would find a suitable husband. (Y/n) couldn't remember seeing the older man, but given the number of young eligible males, the last thing she was looking for was a man that was already a grandfather.

"My Lord Lannister, it is a pleasure to finally meet the man that bought me." (Y/n) told him, curtsying deeply as she watched Tywin's jaw tighten.

"I did not buy you. Beauty such as yours cannot be owned; instead it deserves to be appreciated and loved, nurtured and cared for." Tywin told the young woman, his eyes darting to his three children who all appeared surprised by their father's uncharacteristic sentiment.

"My lady, may I introduce you to my children. Cersei, Jaime, and ...... Tyrion." Tywin said, returning to his normal disdainful demeanour as he glared down at his youngest son.

"Your Highness." (Y/n) said, curtsying low but never letting her eyes leave those of the Queens; (Y/n) knew that neither of them would ever see eye to eye, and even though Cersei was queen, and she was a simple lady of a small house, (Y/n) was not going to show any fear.

As the two women stared at one another, Tywin stepped between them drawing (Y/n) away.

"Ser Jaime, it is a pleasure to meet you." (Y/n) said, as Jaime took her hand and kissed it.

"I assure you my lady, that the pleasure is all mine." He said with a chuckle and a slight sparkle in his eyes, as he saw (Y/n) blush.

"Lord Tyrion, I have so been looking forward to meeting you. I have heard that you are quite the intellect, and it would be so nice to have someone to converse with about books and philosophy." (Y/n) said, curtsying as Tyrion kissed her hand.

"It would be my pleasure to show my new mother the library whenever she wishes; I am sure that we have much in common." Tyrion told her, as Tywin snatched (Y/n)'s hand from his.

"That will not be necessary; if anyone is to show the lady (Y/n) the library it will be me." Tywin hissed, glaring down at Tyrion.

"Now my lady, may I show you your new home." Tywin said, taking (Y/n)'s arm, pulling her towards the Red Keep.

"May I ask you something?" (Y/n) said, as Tywin lead her through the corridors of the keep.

"Why do you wish to marry again after all this time, and why me? There are so many women in Kings landing, so many beautiful women that must have caught your eye, what made you want me?" (Y/n) asked, stopping mid stride and refusing to move.

Tywin sighed slightly as he looked at the young woman, his usually cold heart beginning to beat a little quicker.

"When my wife Joanna passed away, I thought that I would never love again; she was the only woman that I had ever cared for, and I never believed that I would feel that way about anyone else. But then I saw you, so beautiful, so free, so gentle and kind, just like her; your smile stirred something deep inside me, and I knew that I had to have you. I watched you all night as those foolish young lords threw themselves at you, knowing that not one of them deserved you, not one of them was good enough for you. It is true that I am a cold man, I am not known for my sentiment, kindness, or tenderness; but if you will allow me to prove that I can love again, I will not make you regret marrying me." Tywin said, taking hold of her hands.

(Y/n) was taken aback, the last thing that she was expecting was such a confession, especially from a man that had such a reputation as that of the old lions. She couldn't help but feel her resolve soften a little as she looked into his eyes; if it was true what he said, then maybe just maybe being the wife of Tywin Lannister might not be as bad as she thought, he was after all quite a handsome man.

"Very well my lord, but I hope that you will allow me time to learn to care for you just as much as you seem to care for me. If you love me, I promise that I will be the wife you need." (Y/n) said, leaning in and kissing his lips.

"Then my lady this should prove to be a wonderful new life for both of us." Tywin said, with an uncharacteristic genuine smile.

"Now let me show you the library." Tywin said, leading his not so reluctant bride to be, through her new home.
