The Flayer - Part 5
"Good morning Special Agent." Ned called out, as a laughing (Y/n) and Jon entered the precinct. Robb staring daggers at Jon, who gave him a subtle smug smile in reply.
"Good morning Captain. Oh, and by the way, thank you so very much for my very handsome, and inquisitive chauffeurs. Maybe I should be dead on my feet more often if that is the service I get." (Y/n) replied with a chuckle, as she gave Robb a sly wink.
"It's the least I could do. And given the enthusiasm that both of them showed when I asked them to drive you, I think that I should ask the bureau if I can keep you around. I haven't seen those two moves so quick in my life." Ned told her. (Y/n) laughing as Jon gave her an embarrassed smile.
"So, what do you want to do today?" Robb asked, as he came to join his father and (Y/n). (Y/n) pulling a large folder from her bag and dropping it on the table.
"I'd like to go and see the other crime scenes. Crime scene photos are great, but I like to actually see the real location myself. It gives me a sense of a place. It can even help me understand a killer better." (Y/n) explained, as she started flicking through the large collection of pictures that were held in the file.
"How can it do that? I mean, the first killing was months ago now. It will have been covered in goodness how many inches of snow and trampled over by all manner of animals by now." Jon questioned, as he pushed his way between Robb and (Y/n) and settled by her side.
"You're right, Jon. All those things will certainly have happened, but our killer is a little unusual, and I think that it will really help. You see, most serial killers that I have come across, have tried to dispose of or hide their victims in one way or another. A few use Hydrofluoric Acid to dissolve their victims. The issue with that, is that you have to find a way of purchasing enough of the acid to actually dissolve a body, and then you have the problem of trying to dispose of the sludge left behind. Others use fire, but a large fire out here may attract too much attention. Many bury their victims, but as the ground around here is probably as hard as a rock, that sort of rules that out, and also rules out submerging a body, as most suitable large and deep bodies of water have quite a thick layer of ice on them. Then we have dismemberment, which is messy and time consuming, and would require more hiding places, unless a killer has cannibalistic tendencies, and stores the limbs in a freezer somewhere. Finally, some killers have tried to use animals to dispose of bodies. Alligators are good for that but not likely up here, so he might look at pigs. But even then, there will be traces left behind, as pigs can't digest human hair or teeth." (Y/n) explained, as she gratefully accepted another cup of steaming hot coffee.
"Our killer likes to leave his victims out in the open for anyone to find and doesn't seem to mind that he could be seen leaving the bodies where he does. But that doesn't mean that he's stupid. From what I can see from the photos, these areas are a little out of the way, and I think given that, our killer either knows these places very well, or scopes them out well in advance to make sure that they are safe. But I can't get a real idea of how out of the way they are until I see them myself." (Y/n) continued, smiling as Robb jumped to his feet and grabbed the key to the patrol car, and his coat.
"Well. Let's go then. Killers don't catch themselves." Robb said. (Y/n) pushing the folder back into her bag as she happily followed Robb out of the precinct. Jon hastily reaching for his own coat as he ran to catch up with the pair.
>>--------------------------------<<
(Y/n) looked at the vast expanse of white. It was breathtakingly beautiful. The whole landscape looking like the quintessential winter wonderland, as the fresh snow sparkled in the now early afternoon sun. This was the last of the crime scenes from the victims that had been found before she had got there, and each one had proved to be eerily similar. Each scene seeming to have a haunting aura that now surrounded it like a dark fog.
If she hadn't known that a body had been found at each place, (Y/n) would have been happy to just sit down and watch as the snow fell. But as it was, death had left its mark on each of the locales. She knew it sounded silly. She knew that a logical FBI agent shouldn't think such things, but she knew that she had seen it in countless places where bodies had been found. It was like the violence that had occurred was permanently etched into the landscape, the land never being the same again.
"What do you think?" Jon asked, as he came up behind (Y/n). The Special Agent looking between the crime scene photo and the scene before her.
"Interesting." (Y/n) mussed quietly. As she carefully trudged through the snow, moving as close to what looked like the possible body dump as she could get.
"I think that our boy knows these places really well. Each location is far enough away from town so that the chances of him being seen are slim, but close enough that he can be sure that the bodies are found. Whoever he is, he is a strange paradox. The killings are actually well concealed, seemingly done in hiding given how long the victims were alive before he finally finished them off. But the dumping is intended to send a message. He wants to be noticed. He is telling you guys that he is better than you, that you can't catch him." (Y/n) explained. Neither she nor Jon noticing that Robb had answered the car radio that had just crackled to life. His face turning sombre as he received the message.
"(Y/n)." Robb said quietly. (Y/n) and Jon turning to look at him as he slowly came up behind the pair.
"I've just received a message. A local hunter was out stalking a stag that he had been after for a while. One of his dogs found another body. Looks like this one's been there a while." Robb informed the two. The three quickly making their way back to the car.
>>--------------------------------<<
The drive to the latest dump site seemed to have taken forever. The three occupants of the patrol car sitting in an almost stunned silence. Even for (Y/n), the frequency of the killings seemed to be extraordinary, but if the report was right and this body had been in situ for some time, it could actually prove to be one of the earlier victims that had somehow lain undiscover.
"Jon, Robb, Special Agent (Y/l/n). The body is just over there. The chief, and the doc are already examining it." Jory said, as he greeted the three. The deputy holding up the crime scene tape so that they could make their way under it.
"Are you gonna be ok?" Robb asked, as the trio made their way to where they could see Ned and Doctor Luwin crouched.
"I'll be fine. Unfortunately, I have seen more dead bodies than you've had hot dinners. But your concern is appreciated." (Y/n) replied, a soft smile pulling at her lips as she looked at the handsome detective.
"There you are. I was wondering how long it would take you to get here." Ned grumbled. Not really angry at his sons or the agent, but at the man that was turning the land around Winterfell into a killing field.
"What do we have?" (Y/n) asked, as she crouched down next to the doctor. Ned pulling Jon and Robb to the side.
"He's been here for quite some time. It hard to tell given the fact that he is basically frozen. I shall have him taken back to the lab and let him thaw out, after that I'll be able to do the autopsy and let you know. But there is one thing." The doctor told (Y/n), carefully moving the body onto its side to reveal that the skin from the man's back, had been completely removed.
"There is no mistaking that this is one of the Flayers victims."
