Sandor's Crow - Sandor x Reader
(Y/n) couldn't believe that her own twin hadn't noticed her when she had got to the Wall; admittedly she didn't look anything like she did the last time he saw her, but still.
(Y/n) had grown up with Jon at Winterfell, but unlike Sansa and Arya she was not expected to have to marry well; as a bastard she was free to do as she wished, and what she had always wished to do was fight. Every day she would spend in practice, sparring with Jon, Robb and Theon, learning how to handle sword and bow, and by the time she had come of age, neither of her brothers, or Theon were able to beat her.
(Y/n) had grown to have quite a demanding presence, she was strong, yet still shapely, and her long black hair and dark eyes had attracted the attention of many a young man; not as though any of them would dare pursue her; not only would a suitor have to face each of her brothers, but if they got past those, then they would have too face (Y/n) herself, who was quite formidable.
When (Y/n) had heard of her father's death she knew that there was nothing else to do other than join Jon at the Wall. Unlike Sansa and Arya, (Y/n) had not had to journey with their father to Kings Landing, much to her pleasure; she loved Winterfell too much to want to leave and journey to that cesspit of filth and corruption, and had happily remained behind, even though she missed Jon beyond words.
Before journeying to volunteer for the Watch, (Y/n) had cut her hair as short as she could, she had bound her breasts, and had done everything else she could think of to make herself seem as male as possible, she had spent enough hours around her brothers to notice how they would act and hold themselves, and she adopted a few characteristics of each of the boys she loved to ensure that she would fit in with the other men.
The first time she had laid eyes on Jon again was when she was brough, with the rest of the volunteers, to be scrutinised by the Lord Commander, who to her shock was her brother. As his eyes had scanned over the men, she had hid away, hoping that he would not notice, for if he did she knew that he would send her away; women were not allowed at the Wall, and given the type of men that the Black Brothers attracted, she could well understand why.
During training she had proved herself a worthy edition to Night's Watch, beating every other man that had been sent up against her, and she had never been prouder than when she had taken the Nights Watch oath, the night she did was as fresh in her mind as if it had been yesterday, even though it had been at least a year.
"Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory." She had said, promising her life to her brotherhood; even though she was a woman, and the oath did not really mean the same to her as it did the men around her, she had still taken it seriously, standing by the oath as much as any other man.
She was amazed that even after a year, even after everything she had done, none of the men she lived with had noticed that the man they knew as Castor Troy was in fact a woman, and that Jon had never noticed that one of the Watch's most trusted Rangers was in fact his sister; but that was all to change.
A single blast of the sentry's horn rang out as she returned to the wall, she had been out for days scouting and patrolling around the haunted forest, ensuring that everything on the other side of the Wall was safe. As she dismounted her stead, she did not notice that the Lord Commander was behind her; he had been told of this Rangers most recent endeavours, and was intrigued to meet the man that the others called the Stalker, due to him being deathly quiet, with the ability to sneak up on anyone without them knowing.
(Y/n) spun around as she heard a cough from behind her, as she did, she came face to face with her brother.
"I have just come to meet the Ranger that all of my men talk about." Jon had said, not noticing anything until their eyes met.
(Y/n) could see Jon's eyes widen as he saw the eyes that he knew so well. Without warning, Jon grabbed her arm and pulled her away from prying eyes.
"(Y/n), is that really you?" Jon asked, taking his sisters face in his hands and looking her over.
"How did you.... when did you......... how long have you?" Jon tried to say, as he took his sister in his arms.
"Firstly Jon, I'm fine, just a little tired; I've been out for days at the haunted forest. Secondly, I volunteered with the men over a year ago now, I've been a Ranger ever since I took the oath; and I have no idea how I have got away with my little charade for so long." (Y/n) chuckled, as Jon brushed his fingers through his sisters short hair.
"Well I must admit you make a very good man, and an excellent crow by all accounts." Jon said, standing back taking in (Y/n)'s appearance.
"I did learn from the best, what better teachers could I have than you, Robb and Theon." She said, a sad smile coming to her lips as she remembered the two other men.
"Please Jon, don't send me away, I have friends, and I'm a good Ranger, one of the best; please let me stay." (Y/n) begged, hoping beyond hope that her brother would not divulge her secret.
"Well I don't know." Jon said, teasing her.
"I really shouldn't allow you to stay." Jon said, pausing before he broke out in laughter.
"From what I hear you are not one of the best, you are the best, and I would be foolish to send away the deadly Stalker, and I would be even more of a fool to send away my sister now that I have her back with me." Jon said, as he pulled her in for another embrace.
And so it went, Jon now kept Castor Troy close to his side, never divulging their secret to the others; but there were murmurings amongst the men about the new friendship between the Lord Commander and the Ranger; most said that they were merely like brother's whereas others insinuated something else, and those were the rumours that Sandor had heard when he joined Jon, and accompanied him, Castor, Tormund, Beric and others beyond the wall.
"Ya don't think they are do ya?" Sandor said to Beric as he looked through the fire at (Y/n) and Jon as they talked and laughed.
"Well they do take that stupid oath about not taking a wife and fathering no children." Beric said, looking over at the pair.
"I'd watch ya self if I were you Clegane, I've seen how that boy looks at ya; I think he's taken quite a liking to ya. Ya don't want the Lord Commander getting jealous." Beric joked, patting Sandor on the back and leaving the large men to carry on looking at Jon and the Ranger.
Sandor thought to himself; it was true what Beric had said, since Sandor had joined Jon and the crows, he had unusually, and quickly, made friends with the younger Castor, finding himself strangely comfortable in his company. He had been impressed about the ability of the Ranger when fighting, and despite the fact that the Ranger was smaller than many of the other men, he was still strong, and extremely loyal to the Lord Commander. As Sandor thought back, he remembered having caught the young Castor watching him closely, blushing furiously and rushing off like a lady when he had caught him. Sandor made up his mind that once the young man had left Jon's side he would go and find out the truth from Jon himself.
"(Y/n) will you stop staring at him." Jon said, pushing her shoulder as she looked over at Sandor.
"Stop staring at who? I'm not staring at anyone." (Y/n) protested, turning her gaze towards the floor.
Jon laughed, as he watched (Y/n) look back up and over at the big man.
"He's not exactly the man that I would want my sister to be with, but he's strong and loyal, and a good man under that gruff demeanour. Maybe its time that you stopped pretending and returned to what you really are (Y/n)." Jon said, looking at his sister who was staring at him in disbelief.
"Have you lost your mind Jon? We are well beyond the Wall, and you think that it is a good time for me to tell all these men that the man they know as Castor Troy, the Stalker, is in fact a woman; and not only a woman, but a bastard, and the sister of their Lord Commander. And I don't know what man you are talking about." (Y/n) said, crossing her arms across her chest.
"Oh please (Y/n), I have seen the way you look at Sandor when you think that no one is watching, I've seen the smile on your face when you talk to him; I've seen the way you rush up to him and walk by his side. The only person you are fooling is yourself (Y/n)." Jon said, amused by his sister's protests.
"I took the oath Jon, I took the oath like every other crow, and I have stood by it this long." (Y/n) told him, getting annoyed as Jon began to laugh.
"I hardly think that any of that oath applies to you (Y/n), it may apply to the man that others know as Castor Troy, but you are not Castor Troy, you are (Y/n) Snow, and a woman." Jon said, trying to curb his laughter.
"I AM CASTOR TROY!" (Y/n) yelled, standing up from her spot next to Jon.
(Y/n) turned around wide eyed as she looked at the other men around the fire that were now all staring at her.
Jon stood up, as he watched his sister run off into the night; he knew he shouldn't have teased her about Sandor, he knew how seriously she took being part of the Nights Watch, but he saw no need for his beloved sister to deny herself love, not when she didn't have to, not when any moment could be their last.
"Ya should probably go after him, I know he's a Ranger and can look after himself, but we need every man we have, and we don't know what's out there in the dark." Sandor said, as he came up behind Jon.
"Believe me, I know my sister well enough to know that I will be the last person she wants to see." Jon said, only realising what he had said when it was too late.
"Sister? What do ya mean sister?" Sandor growled softly, as Jon turned around to face him.
Jon sighed. "There is no such man as Castor Troy, the man that everyone knows is in fact (Y/n) Snow, my twin sister." Jon told Sandor, pulling him to one side.
"She won't come back for me, but she might come back for you." Jon told a confused looking Sandor.
"Why would she come back for me?" Sandor asked, looking down at Jon.
"Because she likes you, she never stops talking about you. Just go talk to her." Jon said, almost pushing Sandor into the dark night.
(Y/n) sat on the frozen tundra, looking out into the dark expanse; her large black cloak wrapped around her, shielding her from the cold night air.
"What ya doin?" A deep gruff voice said from behind here, causing her to jump.
"I'm dancing, can't you see?" (Y/n) said sarcastically, not looking up at the large man that now loomed over her.
"Ya shouldn't be out ere on ya own, its not safe for any of us, never mind a beautiful lass like you." Sandor said, (Y/n) obviously not having taken much notice of what Sandor had actually said as he sat down next to her.
"I'm a crow, and a Ranger. I can look after myself." (Y/n) said gruffly, as Sandor edged a little closer.
"Look woman, come back to the fire, its fuckin freezing, you'll die out here before anyone gets a chance to try and kill ya. Why do I have to like a stubborn woman?" Sandor said, standing up and reaching out his hand for her to take.
"What do you mean woman? What do you mean, like?" (Y/n) said, looking up at the big man.
"Ya brother let it slip, I know ya ain't no man. I know ya name ain't Castor. So, come back to the fire, I can't have a woman on her own out ere. And I like ya, don't make me say it again." Sandor said gruffly, waiting for (Y/n) to take his hand.
Before Sandor knew what hit him, (Y/n) had jumped into his arms, wrapping herself around him, as she kissed him.
"I like you too Sandor." (Y/n) said, as Sandor pulled her in to another kiss.
"Come on lass, lets get ya back to ya brother, and ya can tell everyone who ya really are so that I can kiss ya in front of the others." Sandor said, as he carried his very own crow back to the fire.
