A Chance Meeting - Modern AU - Part 2 - Tyrion x Reader
A second part of this imagine. Hope you enjoy 😊
Tyrion stood at the back door of the museum and brushed off his jacket and pants. Despite wanting to call (Y/n) as soon as he got home, his mind had got the better of him and he had spent the next few days wondering why a woman like her, a doctor, would want anything to do with such an inconsequential being like him. The woman he had met was utterly beautiful, intelligent and would look more at home on the arm of someone like his brother Jaime, or some handsome academic than be seen with him; but finally he had fought back his demons, and called. As soon as he had heard her happy voice, Tyrion knew that he had made the right decision to call, and the two had spent the next few hours talking about anything and everything, the conversation culminating in (Y/n) inviting him to a private viewing of the Egyptian collection after hours that next weekend; and that was why the little man was now knocking on the rather unimpressive rear entrance of the old building.
"What?" A rather unhappy looking old man asked gruffly, as he opened the door and looked Tyrion up and down.
"I er....... I'm here to see......er....." Tyrion stuttered out, rather taken aback by the older man's harsh demeanour. The little man relieved when he heard (Y/n)'s dulcet tones from behind the stern looking night guard.
"It's alright Harold, er...... Doctor Lannister is here for a private viewing of the collection, don't worry about anything, I'll take it from here." (Y/n) explained, as she took Tyrion by the arm and pulled him inside, ignoring the suspicious stares of the old man.
"Doctor Lannister?" Tyrion chuckled, as (Y/n) escorted him up to the second floor of the museum, and into the Egyptian wing.
"Well, I'm afraid Harold has been here that long that somehow he seems to think that the museum is his own private domain, and if I tell him that you are a Doctor he is more likely to leave us alone for the duration." (Y/n) told him, as the two made their way towards where (Y/n) had set some items up specially to show her guest.
As the two made their way from display to display, (Y/n) ran Tyrion through the vast expanse of Egyptian history, right from the Predynastic period all the way up to the Ptolemies, and the fall of the great civilisation. Tyrion couldn't help but find himself entranced by not only the information that seemed to be bombarding him from every direction, but also by the enthusiasm (Y/n) showed about her subject, and the love that she had for this ancient world.
During his time waiting to see (Y/n), Tyrion had decided to do everything he could to show her that he was interested in her special subject, and had made an effort to find out as much as he could about the artefacts in the museum, and found one particular piece of utmost interest, and now seemed like the perfect moment to impress the seemingly infinitely knowledgeable Doctor.
"Now this is beautiful." Tyrion said, conveniently stopping in front of the carved granite statue of a sphinx with the face of a female that he had been studying.
"Yes, she is, isn't she? That is........" (Y/n) began, before Tyrion took a deep breath and started to tell her everything he could remember about what he had learnt.
"That is Hatshepsut, 5th Pharaoh of the 18th dynasty; second historically confirmed female Pharaoh, she came to the throne in 1478 BC. She was daughter, sister and wife of a king, and is regarded by Egyptologists as one of the most successful Pharaohs, reigning longer than any other indigenous woman, at 22 years. He temple complex at Deir el-Bahri was the first complex to be built on the site which would become the Valley of the Kings." Tyrion said, reciting word for word everything that he had written down to memorise.
"Very good, Doctor Lannister, maybe I should let you take one of my classes, with all that knowledge I'm sure that you could do better than me." (Y/n) chuckled, applauding Tyrion as she came to stand by his side.
"Or maybe I should get the museum to hire you to teach those 10 year old's I have to talk to; I could just see you all dressed up at King Tut." (Y/n) said, as she turned to look at a chuckling Tyrion.
"I was thinking..........next week we have a function here, it's a fundraiser to get money so that we can bring new exhibits to the museum, and I was wondering if you would be my guest? I try not to go to these things normally, but I'm under strict orders from the Director that this time I must attend, so I was hoping that you would come with me, I really don't want to go by myself, and I'd like to spend more time with you, Tyrion." (Y/n) said, blushing softly, as she looked down at the man by her side.
Many people would describe Tyrion as the life and soul of a party, but usually he did his best to avoid these high end fundraisers. He had grown up with these functions with his family, and normally he would only attend so that he could get drunk and embarrass his father and older sister, but given the pleading look in (Y/n)'s eyes, and the fact that he was elated that she wanted to spend more time with him, Tyrion couldn't help but agree with her request.
"Sure.....but I have to tell you that I'm not too good with these things myself." Tyrion explained, almost immediately forgetting about his own reservations about the situation, as (Y/n) dropped to her knees and held him tight.
"Thank you, Tyrion, you have no idea how much better that makes me feel." (Y/n) said softly, as she buried her head into a slightly flustered Tyrion's chest.
Tyrion felt his arms slowly creep around (Y/n)'s waist, finding himself sighing happily as (Y/n) kept her head over his heart, a heart that was now threatening to burst from its bony confines. He didn't know which god was looking down on him at the moment, but whichever one it was, he would have to remember to thank them later for this unexpected turn of events.
>>------------------------------<<
Tyrion nervously fingered his collar as the cab drew up to the front entrance of the museum, the old building lit up with great white columns of light which seemed to be attracting the great and good of Kings Landing who were dressed in their finery, like sparkling moths to a flame. He had been surprised and delighted to learn that none of his family would be attending the glittering function, and he had done his best to hide the fact that he was wearing a tuxedo as he had quickly left the family home.
Tyrion paid the driver and stepped out of the vehicle onto the damp street. (Y/n) had told him that she would wait outside so that the two could go in together, and as his eyes fell on her slightly shivering form, he couldn't help but feel the slightest bit guilty for making her wait.
Walking over to her, Tyrion couldn't help but notice how she was dressed, the long dark red gown that draped itself over her curves like molten metal was flowing over her skin, left just the right amount to the imagination, and at this moment Tyrion's imagination was running wild.
"Tyrion, thank you so much. I really owe you for this." (Y/n) said, leaning down to kiss him on the cheek as Tyrion offered her his arm to take, the two making their way up the stairs and into the already busy museum.
(Y/n) had been at Tyrion's side all evening, the two seemingly joined at the hip as she introduced him to the some of the most important academics and richest people that Kings Landing had to offer, most of the well to do attendants already knowing the little man from his family name. But as (Y/n) went to powder her nose, Tyrion found himself alone for the first time, and was feeling uncharacteristically nervous.
"I didn't know that our dear (Y/n) had a gentleman friend, she certainly kept you quiet; and what do you do, Mister.........?" A man that (Y/n) had pointed out to Tyrion earlier on as the Director of the museum asked, holding his hand out for Tyrion to shake.
"I'm not......er well, I'm not really (Y/n)'s boyfriend, and my name is Tyrion, Tyrion Lannister." Tyrion explained, as he shook the older man's hand, noticing that he seemed to be smiling at the information that he was not (Y/n)'s boyfriend.
"Is that Doctor Lannister, or Professor Lannister?" The Director asked, as he peered at Tyrion over his glasses.
"(Y/n) is one of the most talented Egyptologists there is, so I can only imagine that someone from a similar field would attract the attention of such an intelligent woman." The man told Tyrion as he seemed to stand up taller, looking down over Tyrion.
"I....well, I don't really have a job. I..........." Tyrion began to explain, as the man in front of him began to laugh.
"Oh, I knew that (Y/n) had a wonderful sense of humour, but this is marvellous. I didn't know that she was playing a prank on someone." The Director chortled, as Tyrion became more and more uncomfortable; had (Y/n) asked him here as a joke, had all the conversations they had had been yet another lie in a life full of lies? He was used to being the butt of the joke, he was used to being called names, mistreated, despised, and looked down on, but surly (Y/n) wasn't like all the others. Tyrion shook his head, trying to fight off the negative ideas that were filing his mind. He had done his utmost to be on his best behaviour for (Y/n) to show her, and himself, that he could be more than the clown, the imp, that most people viewed him as; but as the Director continued to taunt him, Tyrion found himself rushing off into the darkness of the museum.
"Colin! What did you say to Tyrion?" (Y/n) growled, as she hurried over to the Director, the man still laughing at the distraught fleeing man. (Y/n) had been on her way back to re-join Tyrion, watching in confusion as he fled into the darkened building.
"I didn't say anything (Y/n), I just found it amusing that such an intelligent woman would lower herself to be seen with a man like that." Colin continued to laugh, until a sharp slap stopped him in his tracks.
"How dare you stand there and judge Tyrion, he is a better man than you will ever be." (Y/n) shouted, before turning around and making her way to find the obviously distraught man.
>>------------------------------<<
"I thought I might find you here." A soft voice said, as Tyrion felt someone gently drop down onto the floor next to him. Tyrion offering (Y/n) the bottle of liquor that he had somehow managed to find as he had made his way through the building.
"There is something about the big guy that I find strangely comforting when I am stressed or unhappy." (Y/n) said, as she looked up at the giant statue of Ramesses where they had first met, the two now sitting on the floor in his shadow.
"I'm sorry (Y/n), I shouldn't have come. I............I didn't mean to embarrass you. That man......he, well he........." Tyrion began to explain, as he felt (Y/n) slip her hand into his and squeeze it tight.
"There is nothing to be sorry for. And I am so glad that you did come. I asked around about you after we had talked, I found out about your family and the way that others treat you, and I'm sorry if I put you in a situation that made you feel uncomfortable, but I enjoy your company, and I like you, Tyrion. You're funny, and kind, intelligent, and the sweetest man that I have ever met. So, whatever Colin told you, don't listen to him, to put it brutally, he's a dick, and he's been trying to convince me to go out with him for months, and I always turn him down. And you didn't embarrass me, I don't really care what any of those people think, you are important to me Tyrion, and I don't care what you are, I still want to get to know you better." (Y/n) said, as she snuggled into a shocked Tyrion's side, resting her head on his shoulder.
"Come on, I have something to show you." (Y/n) abruptly told Tyrion, springing to her feet and pulling him up from the floor.
"Where......where are we going?" Tyrion asked, as (Y/n) pulled him along the corridor and further into the building.
"We are going somewhere special." (Y/n) told him, as she held his hand tightly and led him up flight after flight of stairs.
Opening a door, Tyrion realised where (Y/n) had taken him, his eyes widening in amazement as she led him onto the roof of the enormous old building, the sky above them seeming to be filled with a billion sparkling stars.
"I come up here a lot, it doesn't matter how hectic the world below gets, up here it always seems peaceful, and the stars always seem to be just that ever so slightly brighter." (Y/n) said softly, as she turned to look at Tyrion, her hands gripping his as she looked up into his green eyes.
"I would like it if you would let me bring you up here more often, I would like it if we could leave this stupid party and you could come back to my apartment with me; you are a wonderful, funny and caring man Tyrion, and I want to keep you in my life for a lot longer, if you'd like that?' (Y/n) asked, as she moved her hands to cup Tyrion's face, her lips softly brushing against his as the two moved closer.
"I'd like that very much." Tyrion almost whispered, as he pulled (Y/n) in for another kiss, the two forgetting about the party, about Colin, about the noisy, bustling city streets below, as they melted into each other's arms.
As Tyrion held (Y/n) close, he looked up to the stars and thanked the heavens for the rain and the chance meeting that had led to this moment, a moment he knew that he would not let go.
