Chapter Sixteen
Damien's POV-
Annie shuts off the face timer thing after she finished speaking to Ari. "Why do you guys need this powerful spell?" Nailea asks.
"For a friend," I inform her. "Are you guys okay?"
"Yes," Nailea says.
I look at Annie. She shrugs at me. "We need to talk," I say.
"Yes we do," Nailea says. "Come on."
She walks away, leaving just Annie and me. "I can't believe we found Nailea and the spell," she says to me. We start walking forward.
"I know," I tell her. "I just hope we can get back to Didian soon."
"I don't know if we can," she tells me. "Aria is poisoned and she's the one who got us here in the first place."
"What about Ember on the Zodiac?" I ask her.
"She wouldn't be able to get here because she has to get Light and Kade." I groan.
"Will we have to wait then?" I ask. "Because I do not want to leave my friends alone to fight a battle without me."
"I know Damien," she says, laying a hand on my arm. We stop walking as Nailea turns around.
"Sit." She gestures to a table that has chairs around it. I sit down and Annie sits next to me. Her mother sits on the other side of her and Nailea's family, my family, sit down in the rest of the seats. "Why are you here? How did you come here?"
"We've actually been here," I say. "I was born here and so was Annie." I point to Annie. "I'm Scarlet's son."
Nailea sits back in her chair. "Scarlet?" she whispers. "She had a son?"
I nod. "Aria has two daughters as well," I say. "One's my age and the other one is slightly older."
"Wow," Nailea says. "I missed so much from my sisters over the years."
"Why did you leave?" Annie asks, keeping her voice quiet and polite.
"I didn't have a choice," Nailea says, looking at her hands. "Father sent me to this world. I never got the chance to come back to Didian."
"How come I never knew you were here?" Annie's mom asks. "I'm from Didian as well."
"I've kept my identity a secret," Nailea explains. "Even to this family."
Blaze nods his head as if to agree. "Why didn't you at least tell Ember?" I ask. "She's Aria's second daughter."
"Ember? I just took her in when I found her on the street," Nailea says. "I never knew it was her."
"She left for a while before," Annie says. "You never noticed she was gone? We had adventures before we met Damien."
"I kind of suspected it," she admits.
"Aria and Scarlet miss you," I say after a minute of thinking. "Maybe you could come back with us when we go."
"How?"
"We don't know yet," Annie says.
"How'd you get here?" she asks.
Annie and I look at each other before I say, "Aria."
"Well she can come and get us," Nailea says.
"No she can't," Annie says and Nailea frowns. "She is poisoned."
"What?" she says, her eyes going wide.
"Our friend, uh- actually, she turned evil- poisoned her and that's why we need the spell," I say, nudging Annie. "She will stop at nothing to get it. And I guess that means killing Aria."
"Well, we have to get back!" Nailea exclaims.
"We can't," I say. "Ember has our flying ship right now and she has to get our evil friend."
Nailea stand up and starts pacing. "She can't die. I haven't seen her in years!"
Blake stands up and grabs her arms. "Nova- Nailea," he says, looking into her eyes. "She will be alright. I know she will. If she's anything like you, then she will make it."
Nailea closes her eyes and crumples into Blake's chest. Blake rubs her back and says, "I'm gonna take her to one of the bedrooms here in Michael's house."
Jessica nods and says, "I'll watch the children."
They leave and we sit there in silence. "Maybe we could practice fighting since we have nothing else to do," I say.
"I guess," Annie says then her face lights up. "We have to!"
"Why?" I ask her.
"If I use my power enough, I might be able to transport us back to Didian," she says quickly.
"Wait. Really?" I ask.
"Yeah. It said in Magical Properties," she says. "Ari showed me."
"Okay, let's start," I say and we both stand up.
"Right here?" she asks.
"We could go outside in the backyard," I suggest.
"That'll do."
We walk outside to the back and we see a swing set. Annie looks at it before saying, "Me and the younger kids would always play here when we were younger."
"What?" I ask.
"Did you forget?" she asks. "I lived with Michael for years. I had three younger siblings. But I guess they're not my siblings."
"Oh," I say. "Yeah. I did forget."
"I wonder what ever happened to them," she says. "They were always nice to me. I wonder if he experimented on them, since he is evil."
I nod. "Are you okay Damien?"
I look up at Annie. "Yeah. Sorry. I'm just thinking about some things," I tell her.
"Okay. I was just worried," she says, looking up at me with her beautiful green eyes. "You're not talking much."
"I'm sorry," I say. "Really."
She nods as she gets in her stance. "Are we gonna move the swing set?" I ask.
"Let me do it," she says. She looks at the swing set and it barely lifts off the ground. "I might need your help."
I chuckle as I go over and lift it up. "Go to the left," Annie says. I follow her direction and we move it to where we can't hit it. "Ready to get beat?"
"Nah. I think you are," I tell her. She grins at me as she rolls her eyes.
I get in my stance and I throw my hands up. Fire flashes in her direction and she dodges it. I see a flash in my peripheral vision and I duck. I make the gravity go away and she floats upward while I stay on the ground. "Damien!" she yells.
"Yes?" I ask innocently.
"Let me down!" Her eyes scan the ground. The swing set lifts up and she grabs onto it. "I hate heights!"
I shake my head as I turn the gravity back on. She falls down on the ground, not landing on her feet. She stands up and shakes a hand. I feel something collide with my back and I fall forward. Something lands on my back as I land on the ground. "Ouch," I mutter.
I reach to my back and push that thing off me. I sit up and turn around to see a toy truck on the ground. "You hit me with a toy truck?" I ask Annie.
"It was the only thing I saw," she says as she sticks her hands out. I grab them and she starts to pull me up but I pull her instead. She falls down on me and I laugh.
I pick her up and sling her across my shoulder. I stand up and she hit my back. "Damien!" she says. "Put me down!"
I laugh even harder as she pummels my back. I set her down in front of me and she hits my arm. "What was that for?" I ask.
"For picking me up," she says, crossing her arms. I see her eyes sparkle so I know she's not mad.
"Are you really mad at me?" I ask and her frown twitches, nearly turning into a smile.
"Possibly," she says.
"There's that beautiful smile," I say after she couldn't keep her frown. She laughs, her cheeks turning slightly pink.
"Thanks," she says.
"It's the truth," I tell her and her smile gets bigger. She giggles before hugging me.
"I'm glad you're not mad," she whispers, "from our fight earlier."
"Of course not," I tell her. "I would never stay mad at you for long."
"Same," she says grinning. I unwrap my arms from around her and she stares into my eyes. "I never noticed how beautiful your eyes are," she whispers.
I smile as she leans forward. Her lips presses gently against mine. "Awwww!" I hear someone say. I pull away from Annie to see Jessica. "Oops. I'm sorry."
She backs away from us. I look at Annie and she looks down at the ground. Her cheeks are bright red. "I-I'm gonna go get in the shower," she says and nearly runs inside.
"I didn't mean to ruin your guys' moment," Jessica says, standing next to me. "I just haven't had any time with any of my daughters and I'm just happy one of them has someone who cares for her."
I nod. "It's fine," I tell her. "She's amazing, by the way."
"I can tell," she says, smiling. "And I can tell she really cares for you."
I grin. "Damien!" I turn around to see my Aunt Nailea. "Come here please."
I walk over to her. "I want to give you something," she says. She reaches behind her. I gasp as I see what it is.
