Chapter Eight

Annie's POV-

I settle into my bed, hoping Ember got the note. Ari sits down on her bed and says, "Do you think Em got the note?"

"You just read my mind," I say, chuckling slightly. "Probably."

"Are we gonna do what Ember said?" Ari asks.

"Split into groups?" I ask and she nods. "It's not a very good plan, but it's all we got."

Ari nods. "True. Am I going to stay here then?"

"Yeah. You should stay here and search through the library about spells since Light is looking for one. Aaron could help you," I tell her. "And Damien and I could find the missing sister, Nailea."

"OK," she says. "When are you two gonna leave?"

"Soon."

"How will you get there though?" Ari asks me.

I curse myself for sending Ember on the Zodiac. "I have no clue," I tell her. "Unless one of our abilities is moving to different dimensions, then we could. And I don't think they have a flying boat shop just around the corner."

Ari suddenly grabs a bag and pulls out a book. It's Magical Properties. She flips through the pages until she stops. Her eyes scan the page before looking back up at me. "It says here," she says, pointing to the book, "that the ability Telekinesis can bend the very fabric of dimensional barriers, allowing travel through wormholes or teleportation-like movement. That little part of Telekinesis is called Dimensional Travel."

I stare at her and she nods. "Its just a little advanced," she says. "Maybe we should practice our abilities more to see if we could do other stuff with them."

I nod and say, "We should. But not right now because we need to sleep."

"Yeah," she says. "Good idea. Night Annie."

"Night Ari."

I wake up and see that it is dark out. I groan and try to go to sleep again. No such luck.

I quietly get up and head out of my room and suddenly run into someone. I start falling but they catch me. "I see you're falling for me," Damien says, grinning.

"I know I shouldn't but I, I just can't stop myself from, falling for ya, falling for ya," I sing, quoting Teen Beach Movie. He chuckles as he lifts me easily. I brush myself off.

"What are you doing out here?" he asks me.

"Couldn't sleep," I tell him.

"Me either."

"Are you worrying about Ember?" I ask.

"Yes and no," he says.

"So in between?" I ask.

"Yeah," he agrees. "She's perfectly fine with Rafi but I know she's hurting inside."

I nod. "Wanna go to the library?" he asks suddenly.

"For what?" I ask him.

"Reading. Searching," he says. "Anything."

He wiggles his eyebrows and I hit him. We walk to the library and enter, seeing no one around. "So, what are we going to do since we can't do any other activities?" he says, grinning.

"Where's the casket?" I ask him.

"I think it's locked up somewhere. Why?" he asks.

"I wanna look at it," I tell him. "There might be more clues that no one has seen yet."

He nods distractedly. Suddenly, the doors open. I push Damien and he falls down. I join him on the floor, hearing someone walk our way. "I saw you two," someone says. "Come on out."

I start to get up but Damien grabs my arm. He shakes his head. Suddenly, the person in here grabs my other arm. I start to get dragged forward but Damien grips my other arm. "Let me go!" I say, lashing out with my feet.

They connect with someone and that person falls on my legs. "Annie? Damien?" the person says.

"Jade?" Damien asks.

"What are you doing in here?" I ask. "And why are you attacking us?"

"I thought you were the woman who came in the casket," she says, standing up. Damien and I stand up as well. Jade grabs a hanging lamp and she lit it. "What are you two doing in here?"

"We were gonna read stuff," I tell her. "What are you doing in here?"

"I uh was looking for something," she says, not elaborating on it. Damien and I look at each other. "I'll uh be going now."

Damien and I watch her leave, closing the door behind her. "What's up with her?" I ask and Damien shakes his head.

"Who knows?" he says. "Girls are complicated creatures."

"I'm a girl," I say, cocking an eyebrow. "Am I a complicated creature?"

"No, of course not," he says, nervously laughing.

"Ah. You do think I am," I tell him, poking his arm.

"We should try to go back to sleep," he says, changing the subject.

I nod, saying, "Yeah. We probably need to leave sometime soon anyways."

He agrees. Before we leave the library, I grab a couple books in case I couldn't fall back asleep. I head back to my room, and I lay back down on my bed. I slowly fall asleep.

"Annie . . ." I shake my head, not wanting to wake up. "We gotta get up. Aria is pretty angry and she wants us in the throne room."

I sit up in bed and see Ari and Damien standing over me. I groan as I see the sunlight. "Fine," I mutter, standing up. "Let's go."

I run a hand through my red hair as we walk through the halls to the throne room. We make it there and I say to Aria, "You wanted to see us?"

Aria's nostrils flare as she says, "Where is my daughter?"

"We have no clue," Ari says.

"She couldn't have gotten out without your help," Aria snarls. "I know what your powers are. Ari Kai, you have the time stopping ability."

"Yes I do, but so does Damien," Ari says. "He has absolute existence so he can do anything."

"And you can't really blame it all on us," I say. "Jade could've done it, Rafi could've done it, anyone could've done it. Why blame us?"

She glares at us. Scarlet joins us and Aria shifts her glare to her. "Was it you?" Aria asks.

"What'd I do?" Scarlet asks.

"Let Ember out," Aria says. "You have a knack for knocking people out."

"Why would I do that?" Scarlet asks. "Aria, just stop. Just let her go. You've been . . . more like a tryant than a mother to her from what I have seen."

"I've been more of a mother than you have," she retorts.

Scarlet says, "You are turning into Father."

It's Aria's turn to stop talking. She stares at Scarlet with a stunned expression on her face. "It's true," Ari says. "I saw how he treated you guys, and that's exactly what you are doing to Ember."

Beck nods as well. "Aria, I won't let you turn into him. If you let me back into your life, I'll be there to make sure you stay you," he says pleadingly.

Aria suddenly sits down. "I--I didn't even realize I was doing this," she whispers.

"If you want, I can call her on that hologram thing," Damien says. Aria nods and he grabs the hologram thing. He clicks something and soon, Ember appears.

"Mom?" Ember says.

"I'm so sorry, honey," Aria says. "I didn't realize I was doing that to you."

"It's fine, Mom," Ember says. She grins. "I know you're stressed with being queen and stuff."

Aria nods, finally smiling. "Yeah I am," she says.

"Well, I-" Ember starts to say but her hologram shakes violently.

"Em?" Aria says. Ember's hologram disappears and nothing happens.

"What just happened?" I ask quietly.

"I think she was getting attacked," Ari says to me.

"No," I whisper. Suddenly, Damien's hologram thingy lights up and he presses the button. Ember pops up again.

"Sorry for that," she says, grinning. "I kinda tripped over some ropes."

In the background, we can hear Rafi laughing. "She didn't trip on ropes!" Rafi yells. "She tripped over her own feet!"

I grin. "Are you OK?" Aria asks.

"Duh," Ember says. "I better go though. We're nearing the border."

"OK honey. I love you," Aria says.

"Love you too," Ember says and her hologram disappears again.

"I knew she would be OK," Beck says, grinning proudly.

We stand here awkwardly. "We need to go back to the mortal world," Damien says to break the tension. "Annie and I. Ari could stay here with Aaron and look for the spell Light needs."

I nod. "Why would you two go to the mortal world?" Aria asks.

"To find Nailea," I say. "And to search there too."

"How do we know Nailea is even alive?" Scarlet asks quietly.

"She is," Jade says, finally speaking up.

"How do you know?" Ari asks her.

"Because . . . I just do," she says.

"We can find her and bring her back," I say, coming to her rescue.

Aria nods. "Then it's settled," Damien says.

"Yes," Aria says.

"How will you two leave?" Scarlet asks.

"I could send them over," Aria says. "I have the transporting ability."

"Yes but you would have to come with us," I tell her. "Magical Properties said I could do it with Telekinesis though. It says that if I practice, I could move between dimensions."

"I'll just do it anyway so you won't transport you two into a different realm," she says, smiling at us.

I nod and so does Damien. "Pack up as quickly as possible," Aria says. "Next stop is the mortal world."
