In the Beginning

Long before the death of Lyanna Stark. She fell in love with a man, who was not as he had been raised to be. He was nothing like his father the Mad King of the Seven Realms. He was much kinder and more caring, he was always quick to think of others and cared very deeply for his youngest siblings. So much that before he had ran away, a plan was developed to get the two younger ones out safely if their father was to ever become to Mad and try to burn everything down.

Lyanna Stark was married in secret to Rhaegar Targaryen, because of how much she had come to love the man he was. They had run off together to consummate the marriage and live their lives loving each other as much as possible. However their love was shortly lived, before there was a storm of troops raging on the castle.

Robert Baratheon, who was betrothed to Lyanna, and Eddard, Lyanna's brother, were leading the raid. While Robert was busy finding the man whom he believed stole his love, Eddard was busy looking for his sister.

Upon climbing the high tower he found her. However her condition was not what he had excepted. She was swollen around the belly, laying in a bed with mid-wives all around her hustling and bustling. His sister was howling in pain like the she-wolf she is. Upon further exploration of the room Eddard Stark noticed one mid-wife already holding a small infant within her arms. The infant had black locks and was being cleaned off by the mid-wife. His attention quickly turned back to his sister, when her howls were becoming more of a painful cry. He rushed to her side and quickly grabbed a hold of one of her sweat drenched hands between his two.

"Ned, you're here," she asked her older brother. He nodded his head at her acknowledgment. He released one of his hands from her and started to wipe the sweat from her brow.

"Brother, I must ask you a favor, before I am to weak to speak," she told him tears starting to stream down her face.

"Anything, little one, what ever you need. Like my wife's code of honor says 'Family, Duty, Honor'," Eddard tells her smiling at his sister. She howling again as the mid-wives yell for her to push for the other baby to come.

"Help them, help them as I know I will not be around to see them grow. Promise me, Ned," she said her voice getting lower and lower with each word and her eyes beginning to droop close.

"She's out, good job my lady," the mid-wife explains holding the newborn little girl up, before looking over at her mother's condition. Ned looks over to the newest addition to the room before looking back at his sister. Her breathes have decreased and her eyes still looking over at her brother.

"Promise me, Ned," she states her voice very weak and no louder than a whisper. He looks over his sister one last time tears starting to form in his eyes, before he begins to nod.

"I promise Lyanna, I will care for them like they are my own," he tells her.

"Keep an eye on Alys and Aegon, they were tr-," Lyanna's voice and breaths had stopped and Ned knew that she was not coming back from this. He kissed his sister's head letting his lips linger as his tears run down his eyes from the loss of the most amazing women he had ever had the privilege to watch grow up. After several moments he had composed himself and looked at the mid-wives in the room and the two infants that laid in their arms. The oldest one with the black locks upon their head was a boy. 'Black hair like his mother's. Aegon, a fitting name for him' Ned thought. He smiled at the little man, and noticed that when the infant opened his eyes they were a very light purple, almost blue. Ned hoped that the boys eyes would darken, knowing that if Robert knew of the boys parentage he would surely have him killed.

Ned's head then turned to the newest child. This child was definitely a girl. Her locks weren't black like her brother's, but instead a very light golden brown. Ned sighed. He hoped he would be able to play off her hair color or that it would become darker. When the infant opened her eyes her were the same color as her brother's but when you looked into her eyes it was like staring into his sister's loving eyes.

He knew then that no matter what he would protect these children. Not because they were family, but because he knew some day they will become amazing adults and will help bring together some form of new peace.

"Had she full names for them," Ned questioned the nurses.

"The boy was to be Aegon Jon, and the girl Alys Rose," the nurse holding the boy.

"Thank you, Ladies. Please do not let this information out. Not only will the lives of these children be at stake, but yours as well," Ned told them. The women nodded.

"We would never betray the trust of Lady Lyanna. We owe her our lives as she had spared ours with Lord Rhaegar. We would like to come with you my lord and help with the children," a nurse states.

"Of course, thank you ladies. I will protect you and these children with all that I can," Ned tells the ladies before leading them out of the castle tower and eventually to their new homes in Winterfell.
