Disclaimer:
You'll probably find there's a lot of incorrect use regarding "been" and "being". When I wrote this story, I wasn't aware of how to use them correctly. Therefore I am aware that I make the mistake quite often. I plan on going back and fixing it in the future :)
The stand-in teacher doesn't look up from his phone as my English class makes a noise that the rest of school can probably hear. A bunch of boys throw paper planes around the class and when one hits me on the head, I glare at them. They all look away sheepishly and I sigh, leaning into my palm as I play Temple Rush on my phone. I'd much rather be at home, asleep or watching some of my favourite shows. Despite how loud the class is, the tension between Kelcy and I is so unbearable that I eventually set my phone down and turn to face her.
"Kelcy." I say.
"What?" She snaps abruptly. However, it's an even better response than I was expecting.
"Can we please talk?" I ask and she laughs humorlessly.
"There's not much to talk about."
I roll my eyes at her immature response.
"Oh don't come with that bullshit." I hiss lowly and she grits her jaw.
"You knew Sophie! You knew. How can I just move on from that?" She asks, her eyes tearing up.
"Why can't you believe me when I say I didn't?" I ask and she shakes her head, sniffing softly.
"Just stop lying." She snaps and I let out a loud groan.
"I'm not lying!" I scorn and she glares at me, anger dancing like flames in her eyes.
"Whatever." She grumbles before standing up and slinging her bag over her shoulder. She leaves the classroom, the teacher getting up for a split second before - as if realising it isn't worth it- sitting back down again. I close my eyes for a moment, letting out a sigh before I drop my head on my table.
Never, in my four years of knowing Kelcy, has she ever been this unreasonable.
I feel a hand on my lower back and I sit up again to see Chris in her seat now with an apologetic smile. I give him a tired one in return.
"Don't worry about it, Soph. She'll get over it." Chris tries to comfort me and I try to believe his words although it doesn't seem to work in the slightest. I feel a heavy gaze on me and when I look over my shoulder I see Alex watching me. I quickly turn back to Chris to avoid anyone suggesting anything.
"You're not going to tell Courtney I tried to convince her of the truth, are you?" I ask, leaning my head back onto my palm.
"Of course not." He reassures me.
I give him a grateful smile. "Thank you Chris."
He winks at me before pulling out a packet of Rascal sweets from his pockets. My eyes immediately light up when he hands it to me. I look down at it with a grin before smiling up at him. I pull him in for a tight hug and he chuckles.
"Thank you!" I gush, ripping the packet open and stuffing my mouth with some of the colorful goodness. I absolutely love Rascals.
"I thought you could use some." He jokes and I push his shoulder playfully.
I look for the green ones in the packet and after finding a few, I pop them into my mouth. However, when I look back up at Chris, he's staring down at me with a twinkle in his eye and a gentle smile. His eyes slowly move to my lips and I immediately stop chewing, my stomach tying in knots. After about a second, his eyes come back up to mine and I smile at him to try and pretend like I haven't noticed what he did.
Was he really just thinking of kissing me?
"Are you going to try and talk to her again?" He asks me and I'm grateful that we continue talking to ignore the awkward moment we just had. I swallow the sweets in my mouth.
"No."
Chris frowns. "Not even one last time?" He asks in surprise.
"I'm not going to grovel, Chris." I answer honestly and he purses his lips with a small sigh.
"Look, can we talk about something else? I'm tired of this." I say and he nods in understanding.
"Sure." He responds, only to be cut off by the bell which I'm suddenly very grateful for.

Throughout the day, eyes were on Kelcy and I; everyone thirsty for some more drama due to the current rumors going around. I managed to ignore them and go about my day but every now and then, I felt like screaming at everyone to leave me the hell alone. However, Courtney enjoyed the attention because eyes automatically move to her and that's her favorite thing. I avoided talking to Courtney all together simply because I would have said something and she would have ended up strangling me. It was safer this way.
Since I've spoken to Alex, I don't dread going to Sunny Smiles as much anymore. In fact, it's more of a relief from all the drama at school. That's why I am able to walk into work today with a much more relaxed feeling than ever before. Also, Alex is suddenly like a different person with me.
As I tidy up the classroom, returning toys to their designated areas, I can't help but cast a glance Alex's way to admire how attractive he looks today. At that very embarrassing thought, I look forward with a frown and a blush creeping up my cheeks.
"So," I hear him say behind me. I face him with a raised eyebrow.
"I hear that you and Chris are dating?"
I accidentally drop the book that was in my hands and turn to face Alex with my mouth slightly ajar.
"Chris and I? Dating?" I stress in complete and utter surprise.
"Yeah." He responds with an awfully amused smile.
I stare in shock for a little while longer before a laugh escapes my lips. I bend down to pick the book up with disbelief written on my features.
"Chris and I are definitely not dating." I shake my head to myself.
"You're always together." He counters, as if it's a valid and reasonable excuse.
I scoff with an eye roll. "Have you ever heard the term 'best friends'?" I ask sarcastically and Alex snorts.
"We all that's the biggest lie 'friends' tell."
"Well, not this time." I shrug him off.
Seriously? Chris and I dating? I could never do that. I mean, he's basically my brother and I'm one hundred percent sure that I have no underlying feelings for him so that could never possibly happen. Our friendship is strictly platonic.
What about that look he gave you in class then? Sure looked like he wanted to kiss you...
My eyes widen as my subconscious points that out. Maybe I'm reading into things. Perhaps my lipstick was smudged and Chris was merely glancing at it. He couldn't possibly see me as anything more than a friend. No way.
"So you don't like him in any way?" He presses further and I give him a deadpan look. I shouldn't be willing to share such personal information with him because, after all, he is a Rebel. However, something about Alex Rosewood makes me feel like I can trust him; like I can confide in him.
"No." I respond before continuing on with what I was doing.
"Can I ask you something?" He says and I frown at his rather unusual friendliness.
"Uh, go ahead."
"Is your mom a baker?" He asks and I stop what I'm doing to face him.
"No. Why?" I respond in pure confusion.
"Oh, I was just wondering cause you have really nice buns." He says in all seriousness. However, I throw my head back in laughter, the pick up line absolutely ridiculous. Once I recover, I look at him with a red face.
"That's funny." I comment.
"Seriously though. Are you a keyboard?"
My lips quirk into an even more amused smile. "No?"
He shrugs casually, "Well I assumed you were since you're my type."
I let out a loud chuckle, some of the kids looking at me in irritation in which I respond with a sheepish smile before looking back at Alex. His eyes are glistening with amusement and humour at my reactions and his lips are quirked into a crooked smile that almost makes me swoon. How can someone be so damn good looking?
"What? Am I your pickup line tester now?" I joke and he smirks.
"If that's what you'd like." He muses and I shake my head with a smile.
"You're quite the jokester Rosewood."
"Only for you, Cooper."

I switch the TV off and the children stand up to stretch their now stiff muscles. I open the sliding door to the yard and the kids sprint outside. I hand a few of them some soccer balls and spades to play with by the sand but they don't give me much time to say anything before they're out and running around like headless chickens. Again Sarah didn't pitch up, not that I'm surprised. I wonder if Lucy even knows she doesn't rock up most of the time. I should probably take it up with her.
The warm sun sets the garden in a golden glow and the blue sky makes me squint slightly. I take in a deep breath and sigh in content at the crisp air that enters my lungs. However, I hear a packet being opened right beside me and I turn to see Alex by my side, watching the kids as well. That's not what catches my attention though. No. It's the Rascals in his hands that do.
I look down at them longingly before looking up to see his lips twitching, fighting to break into a smile, as if teasing me. It's then that I realise he is.
"Don't you want to be a gentleman and share some of those with me?" I ask hopefully and he laughs under his breath.
"It you haven't noticed, I'm not really known for being a gentleman." He quips. I roll my eyes.
"Whatever, don't you want to share them anyway?" I ask with a wide smile. He finally looks away from the children to stare down at me. He doesn't say anything though, just smiles at me and walks away with the packet. I gawk at him and follow after as he goes back inside.
"C'mon, Alex." I pout childishly and he merely laughs at me before popping a green one into his mouth.
"Nuh-uh." He says and I cross my arms over my chest.
"Just one?" I ask and I walk closer to him. He chuckles as I approach him. "Please." I say innocently and just as I'm about to grab the packet, he lifts it up into the air.
"Too slow Princess." He smirks and I scowl at him, jumping up to try and reach the packet he's holding up in the air. However, due to how tall he is, I don't succeed. I wrap one arm around his neck and try and pull his hand down only for him to laugh and walk backwards. I roll my eyes again and as I try to grab his arm one last time, he trips over my foot and we're sent flying to the floor. I let out a girlish squeal as my head hits his abnormally rock hard chest. I groan and feel it vibrate underneath me as he laughs before I realise I'm on top of him. I push myself up in a sitting position to see him smirking suggestively. A whiff of Axe and Vanilla hits my nose and I almost sigh in content.
"You know," he starts, "I would prefer this position if it was the other way around."
I try to ignore the blush that creeps up my neck and cheeks and roll my eyes. "Dream on."
Before I can predict it, he flips us over so that he's on top of me now and me below him. He stares down at me, his eyes twinkling.
"Not so much of a dream now, is it?" He winks and I gulp down my nerves.
"Let me go, Alex."
"I quite like this position."
"Alex," I whine.
He chuckles. "What? I'm just being honest."
I reach out to mess his hair and he groans. "Stop." Alex complains and I laugh before doing it again.
"Sophie." He hisses playfully and I laugh before he grabs my wrist. My breath hitches in my throat and I stare at him.
He lets go of me before his hand starts tickling me. He sits up, trapping me under his legs while I squirm with hysteria. I laugh and try to push his hands away but to no avail. "Alex!" I laugh "Stop! P-please!" I gasp and he eventually let's go, eyeing my distraught state in amusement.
He winks at me before standing up and I let out a sigh of relief.
"You're cleaning up the Rascals by the way!" He calls out and I look at the floor to see them scattered about. I groan.
What a waste of perfect sweets...
How did you guys enjoy this little Sophex moment? I thoroughly enjoyed writing it.
