Episode 2
QUIET WILDERNESS
"Namhye, what are you doing so early at this time?" My uncle asks me as I put on one of my leather boots.
"I'm gonna go give Ginger a ride, can I uncle?" I ask my uncle as he mopes his way outside, a cup of coffee in one hand while the other was rubbing the back of his neck.
"Ginger? The new one? Sure, give her a try," he responds and I flash him a small smile.
"Thank you Uncle Hoseok!" I respond before running to the stables, waving at him as he waves back while giving me his signature smile.
Jung Hoseok, he's my uncle. He owns a huge farm by the countryside and he's also the famous horse racer in all of Korea. He's been winning tons of gold medals since he was a teenager. And now he owns a huge stable full of horses.
I run to the stables and my eyes wander through the huge horses in different colors and spots. I walk inside and look around for any sign of an orange-colored horse.
As soon as I saw it, which was in one of the farthest stables, I grabbed a bridle and a saddle and lifted the lock off her door before entering it.
"Hello Ginger," I smile at the horse with the blonde mane and orange fur, she had white spots on her legs and she just arrived yesterday.
Ginger snorts, and I place the bridle on her and I place the saddle on her back before guiding her to stand up and follow me.
I slowly guide her outside as she trots behind me, and as we reach the field, where there was a paddock my uncle used when he was getting ready for a tournament.
Ginger exhales, a sound coming out from her nostrils and I smile at her before patting her head.
"I hope you had a great rest today, because we're gonna start training!" I smile at her and she trots off with me to the starting point.
"Look who's so eager to defeat me," a familiar voice fills my ears and annoyance takes over me as I snap my head to where I heard it.
"Maybe because I am, Taehyung," I shot back at him and he gives me his mocking laugh before crossing his arms, walking to the bench with his training shoes in his hands.
Kim Taehyung, my older brother. He's an arrogant, stuck up person who wins in every horse race against me. He recently got a silver and a bronze medal from the last tournament after he was finally allowed to join them.
"You can't take on my Sparky with that turmeric-looking rag you got there," he chuckles and I glare at him before putting on my helmet, and placing a foot on the holders of the saddle before lifting myself on Ginger's back.
"I'm gonna defeat you this time Tae, now that I'm finally allowed to join tournaments," I replied at him before placing my hands on the reins attached to Ginger's bridle.
Tournaments are only for those people who are 19 and up, and I just turned 19 this year and my uncle is finally giving me the chance to join my first tournament.
"Just you wait, warm up and I'll bring Sparky, then we'll see who has the better horse," he says before standing up after putting on his boots.
Sparky is Taehyung's horse, he's also one of the tallest horses my uncle owned.
"You guys go ahead and train, I'll make some breakfast," my uncle said as he turned his heel and entered inside our house.
I started to warm up with Ginger, lowering my hands as she continues to trot along the pen, and going in circles since the training field was circular. Her hooves clicked against the gravel as she skips in a normal pace.
Soon, after three rounds, a figure comes out of the stable, bringing a horse that was in pitch black.
"Me and Sparky are gonna start this party!" Taehyung yelled at us as he put on his helmet and quickly.
He places himself on Sparky's back and I trot to the starting line with Ginger, who was beside Taehyung's horse now.
"When I blow this whistle, we go!" Taehyung shouts as he grabs his whistle from his pocket, wrapping his fingers around the rein.
He brings his fingers to his whistle, taking it to his mouth before tooting it.
Tooott!
Whoosh!
Sparky and Taehyung run like the speed of wind, but my eyes widened as I trailed behind them.
Well, not really behind them.
Ginger rushes and gallops towards the exit of the paddock and she rushes towards the green fields my uncle owned, me still on her back as she continues to gallop to God-knows-where.
"Ginger! Stop! Where are you going?!" I yell at her as she keeps galloping somewhere.
The sound of her hooves were clicking as she snorts and does a few sounds before galloping into the wind, her orange mane flying in the wind as she runs.
Like the speed of light, my eyes couldn't process what was happening since the colors of green and blue were painting everything like the speed of lightning.
Suddenly, Ginger stops, and I felt myself getting flinged to the air.
And pain hitted my body and my vision turned black.
