A lot of my inspiration for Lyra, Orson, and Galen's relationship comes from the comic Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson. If you're not familiar with the comic, here's one of my personal favorites below. I usually see Orson as Calvin, Lyra as Susie, and Galen as Hobbes (the tiger).

I don't own anything.

"I d-dont wanna!l Orson screamed. "I don't wanna g-go to thera-therapy!"

"This isn't therapy," said his mother. "This is school with other children like you."

"I'm not a ch-ch-child! I'm sixteen!"

"Orson! Please!"

That's how the day started. And Orson had high hopes it wasn't going to get any better. His mother had signed him up for some 'group therapy' thing. That was the last thing Orson wanted to do. He didn't want to socialize! He hated socializing! The only social thing he wanted was to socialize with GALEN WALTON ERSO!!!! (Yes, Orson had recently figured out Galen's middle name. And it made him extremely happy.)

"Mom! No!" Orson tried to fight his mother but he ended up on the losing side. Partly because both his parents were against him and their combined strength was too much for the teen.

Orson was forced to sit in the family speeder, and he pouted the whole way there. "Orson Callan Krennic! Grow up!" Yasmine scolded.

"I c-can't! I m-made a p-promise n-not to!"

His mother groaned. "You don't need to lose your Lego loving side when you grow up. Just act a little more mature! You're going to be seventeen next year."

"I ain't grow-growing up."

"Do it for Galen Erso. I'm sure he'd be very proud of you," his mother grumbled. "You guys are awfully tight friends, you know."

"Galen is the best (boy)friend ever!" Orson snapped. "I w-would trade the w-world for him!"

"I don't think Galen Erso is worth Lexrul."

"You're right. HE'S SO MUCH B-BETTER!!"

"Orson Krennic!! Stop yelling!!"

"Why can't I get a pet? Or see Galen?! That would be much better than this damned therapy stuff!"

"It's not therapy!"

And this conversation repeated itself all the way to the Disabled Children's School on a planet called Darius. Erikzen stayed out of the conversation but Orson wished he would join in and argue against his mother. Why couldn't they understand that he was gay and that he loved the cutest science nerd in the entire Galaxy!? But no! His parents were so old fashioned Orson sometimes wished he could knock some sense into their brains. GAY IS OKAY.

Orson lost the entire argument too (not that he had a chance of winning it since he wasn't driving the speeder) and so he was forced to enter the facility with his parents (which was embarrassing). He saw a lot of younger children in the area, as well as some teens and adults. Orson decided that he had seen enough and he tried to get away.

"Just where do you think you're going?" His father demanded, grabbing him by the collar.

"Grange," Orson answered.

"Any why would you go to Grange?"

"C-Cause it's better than here!"

"Orson Callan Krennic, you are staying in this classroom and in this school for one day. Your mother and I will come pick you up around 15:30." Before Orson could protest, his parents were gone.

Orson didn't do the regular studying right away as he thought he would do at a school. No, he had to interact with the other people in the building for an hour. It was annoying. Most of the teenagers had created their own little cliques already and Orson was an outcast. The adults pestered him about his personal life, what grade he was in, and so forth.

However the children under twelve were fun. They didn't ask him many questions except 'Do you like (favorite show or sport of theirs)?' The majority of them didn't ask how he got his stammer and lisp, and they liked to play with him. Maybe it was because he was one of the few older kids who was eager to play with the younger. Within minutes of meeting four of the younger students, Orson was playing a game of tag with almost all of them, no matter what their disability was.

Then some bell rang and they were forced to disband their game and head off to separate classrooms. Orson has to go to some speech help class for both the morning and afternoon. He scowled and tried to sneak away. Too bad someone caught him and forced him into the classroom.

Orson spent most of his time drawing. He wasn't the greatest at drawing. Yet he tried to draw Galen anyway. He couldn't remember Galen's face shape, or what side his hair part was on. He couldn't remember if Galen's nose was long or short, and if his ears were small or large. Orson felt awfully stupid when he realized he hasn't paid enough attention to those small details. The only feature he remembered crystal clear were Galen's eyes (oh and probably the hands but Orson was terrible at drawing hands). So Orson scribbled a bunch of eyeballs.

Suddenly he was poked in the side by a student next to him. Orson jerked his head up and looked at the student, who was pointing towards the teacher. "Orson Krennic?" The teacher asked. "Can you read this out loud for me?"

Orson stared at the sentence. 'Around the rugged rocks the ragged rascal ran.' No. He wasn't going to read that. It was too hard. Orson shook his head.

"Do you know what this says?" The teacher asked. Orson nodded. "Then I'm sure you can read it." A shake of the head. The teacher sighed and gave the line to someone else. Then he walked over to Orson and bent down next to his desk. "Are you afraid to speak in front of the class?"

Orson nodded his head. Plus, he had been dragged here against his own will. "Do you want to whisper it to me now?" The teacher asked. Orson shook his head. "Fair enough. Meet me after class. You can say it then."

Orson ended up sneaking out after class. He went to the cafeteria and pulled out a sandwich his mother had made him. It wasn't as good as the ones he and Galen got, though (actually, taste-wise it was much better but without Galen there, it wasn't the same).

Two girls joined him on the opposite side of the table. One had a magazine. "Arnie! Look!" The girl with the magazine said. "He's in this magazine!"

"Brenna, you're obsession is so weird." Said the other.

"Come on! Isn't he adorable." Orson rolled his eyes. No one could be as adorable as Galen. "Besides, he's only a few more years older than me. The girl looked up from her magazine and sighed. "What would it be like to meet Galen."

Orson froze. Now he had to see this. "Wh-Whatcha lookin' at?" Orson tried to sound as friendly as he could while inside he was screaming 'GALEN IS MINE!!!!!'

"Well," began the girl named Arnie. "We were just looking-"

Brenna shoved the magazine into Orson's hands. "Do you know who this is?" Orson knew who it was. It was a picture of Galen except it looked like it had been enhanced or something for magazine purposes.

"Yeah. Th-that's Galen Ers-Erso."

Brenna stole back the magazine and stared at the picture, sighing. "I would just love to meet him. What do you think he would think of me? I wonder if he would love me back and marry me."

Orson felt his temper rising. 'Keep it together, Orson.' He bit his tongue and thought for a second. Then he said "Y-You know, I m-met Galen pers-sonally."

Arnie gave a little "oh boy" while Brenna leapt up and grabbed Orson's shoulders. "WHERE?!?"

Orson pushed Brenna off him. "At the Republic'th Futures Program."

"You went there?!?"

"Yeah?"

"It is my DREAM to go there! I will go into mathematics and chemistry and maybe I'll be able to meet Galen!" She gave a small squeal.

Orson noticed how her wristband read that she was overly obsessive and he began to wonder if he should classify as the overly obsessive yandere (he also looked that word up). "Wh-why do you like G-Galen so much?"

"Is he not adorable?!? Would you just look at his beautiful eyes, and his flawless face, and-"

Arnie cut her off. "Brenna has a bit of an obsessive thing over hot guys. Ever since Erso won a medal for his science work two years ago, she's been obsessed about him."

"His name is Galen, Arnie!" Brenna shouted.

Orson wondered if he and Brenna should have a competition about who was more obsessive over Galen. He was sure he would win since he basically stalked Galen back at school. Brenna turned to Orson and said "What was he like?"

"He's q-quiet, and kind of s-socially awkward, and mainly th-thinks along the l-lines of science. He's r-really nice once you g-get to know him." 'Not to mention he is hot as hell, is in love with me, and is gonna marry me some day.'

Brenna nodded. Then she said "I wonder if he's in a relationship already."

"He is. Or at-at least he was wh-when I last saw him."

"I'm gonna murder the bitch who's with him! She doesn't deserve him like I do!"

'Oh, please. Lyra would make a better wife than you. He would hate to be obsessed over... although I obsess over him...' Orson was starting to confuse himself. "Th-That's a little m-much, don't you th-think?"

"Well if I can't do it, then Arnie can."

Arnie rolled her eyes. "Beating up someone's girlfriend isn't my idea of fun."

"B-Besides, it's not a g-girl. It's a b-boy," Orson said.

Brenna narrowed her eyes. "So he's bi?"

"Why d-does sexuality matter? If he-he loves someone, he l-loves someone. S-Simple."

"Because that means I'll have to exterminate any man or woman who likes him!"

Orson had enough. He slammed his hand down on the table and shouted "GALEN IS MINE, LITTLE GIRLIE!!"

"HE'LL BE MINE!!" Brenna screamed back. "AND I'LL FIGHT YOU FOR HIM!!"

"YOU'RE ON!!"

Five minutes later, Orson, Brenna and Arnie were sitting in the principal's office waiting for their parents to come get them. All three had a few bruises (Arnie had tried to break up the fight by fighting herself). Orson and Brenna were glaring at each other. Both were mentally arguing over who loved Galen more. But Orson knew he had already won the fight. After all, he was the one Galen had met, dated, and kissed. And no matter what, Galen was always going to be his.

Well that ending escalated quickly.
