I was bored so I wrote another chapter. To kick it off, here's some really cute Galennic fan art but someone. Please comment the artist's name of you know who it is!
Also, I think Orson and Lyra's relationship in this book is almost comical. It's like they took frenemies to the next level.
I don't own anything.

"Thirty-three jugs of blue milk on the wall!"
"Thirty-three jugs of blue milk!"
"Fill one up-"
"Put it back up-"
"Thirty-four jugs of blue milk on the wall!" Lyra and Orson chorused. They had already counted down and now they were going back up. The two had collected a pile of Kyber crystals from a crystal patch they found and had returned to the frozen lake, which they stayed at since it was in close relation to the front door. Now they were trying to melt an ice block with the crystals. Orson figured if they could melt the ice block, they could probably hold a decent water supply for however long they needed.
"After all," he had said. "A human being is able to go three weeks without food but only three days without water."
"And three seconds without air," Lyra had added.
Back to the present, Orson was smashing a Kyber crystal against an ice block. Lyra was using a pick axe with a Kyber Crystal tied to it to try and break the ice. She had some commentary about his jagged movements and gritted face. "You know, you look like you're trying to beat the pulp out of that ice block."
"This damned thing won't even break the ice! How are we supposed to replenish a water supply if we can't melt the ice!"
"You're chipping at the ice. I would think that's enough."
Orson got up. "I'm going to go back to the crystal field."
"Don't get lost!" Lyra shouted. "I know how bad you are with directions!"
"Shut up! Oh, and we were at jug thirty-three, right?"
"Thirty-four."
"I meant to say that."
Orson wandered around until he found the crystal field. There were so many crystals here! The ground, the walls, the ceiling, all covered in Kyber crystals that represented stalagmites and stalactites. With some difficulty, and the help of his own pick axe, Orson pulled one out. The crystal had a yellowish glow to it. Orson wondered if that meant it was warmer than the other crystals and so he pocketed it.
He worked for a whole hour, softly singing some songs Galen had taught him. He wondered what Galen was doing right now. Was Galen thinking of him? Orson's heart gave a slight PING! at the thought of Galen thinking about him.
Orson's eyes then fell on a large crystal, a crystal with a red hue to it, at the end of the field. It was up on an incline so it could shine over the field. He crossed the field as fast as he could and inspected the red crystal. It was beautiful. The edges and sides of it were polished, like someone had been here recently to fine-tune it. The crystal almost seemed to be begging for him to take it, and Orson considered doing so, then decided against it. He could find other crystals. He turned away and began walking.
The next moment he knew, he was standing back in front of the crystal. His hand stretched outwards and the tips of his fingers brushed the smooth surface. The crystal was magnificent! Orson rested his hand against its side.
Suddenly his vision blacked out and Orson saw an older Galen for a brief moment. He yanked his hand away out of fear. Orson's shoulders shook violently. What he didn't expect to do was reach out and touch the crystal again.
This time, he held on a little longer. Orson saw Galen again, in a beautiful uniform. Galen was much older than he was now. He could hear someone say "You must be very proud," to Galen. It sounded like... himself.
"Proud as I'll ever be," Galen lied. Lied. Galen was lying? Orson didn't know Galen to be a liar and he jerked his hand away from the crystal.
Orson cursed himself when he touched the crystal for the third time. He saw a little girl in front of Galen, eh was crouched down. "Jyn," Galen breathed. "Come here." The little girl stepped closer to Galen. Galen placed his giant hands near the little girl's shoulders and whispered "Listen. Whatever I do, I do it to protect you." There was fear in Galen's eyes and his voice shook a little as he spoke. "Say you understand."
"I understand," said the little girl.
Orson pulled his hand away for the third time. Oh no, wait, he pulled the crystal out instead. The crystal was heavy and it threw him off balance, causing him to fall and roll down the incline. He rolled to the bottom of the ramp and groaned. "Ow..."
Suddenly the crystal let out a powerful beam from under his arm. Orson screamed and leapt away from the crystal. The beam disappeared but now a gaping hole was in the top of the roof of the cave.
And that's when Orson realized something. He seized the crystal and tucked it under his arm. Then he ran back to the frozen lake. "LYRA!! LYRA!!!" He ended up crashing right into her.
Lyra rolled him off her. "Geez! Watch where you're going!" She snapped. Her eyes fell on the giant crystal. "Please tell me that can melt the front door."
"GALEN AND I HAVE A CHILD!!!!" Orson shouted over her.
Lyra stared. Her eyes resembled giant dinner plates and she couldn't speak for at least a minute. When she did, it was quiet and in disbelief. "You... you're pregnant? At sixteen?"
"No!" Orson cried. "No, no, nonononono, I saw the future!"
"How?" Lyra was looking at Orson like he was an idiot. Orson told her about the crystal and what he saw. His story was kind of jumbled and some of his dialogue made no sense but he managed to cover the main part of it. "So the crystal showed you and Galen's and the child?"
"Well, no, but there was a little girl and there was me talking and there was Galen. Oh, and we named her Jyn!"
"Like Qui-Gon Jinn?"
Orson shrugged. "I dunno...Prolly."
Lyra sighed. "Well at least you ain't pregnant. I was worried for a second. You're a little young." She then pointed to the crystal. "Should I touch that?"
"Yeah! Then tell me all about it!" So Lyra did. She didn't touch it very long. Lyra snapped out of her vision within ten seconds, her body shaking and eyes glassed over with shock. "Well?"
"I... I have a little girl too... and my vision says I have a gorgeous looking husband but I couldn't figure out who... and then I got killed..."
"Any specifics?"
"Not really. It was hard to see." Orson couldn't tell if Lyra was lying or not.
They went back to discussing the giant crystal's power (after Orson mentioned it). They planned out how to work the entire operation. They just needed something to contain the crystal's power. And that's when Orson decided to pull off another idiotic idea of his. "We should shoot the beam at the door!"
"Because one of us is going to activate the crystal powers and break through the door."
"But when I touched it, it did just that!"
"Well, we need to secure it to something so you can focus on melting the door and not holding the device up."
"We can make something out of my Legos!" Orson bounced up and down as he skipped a circle around Lyra.
Lyra watched him. Then she said "I don't know if that's my best idea ever or your worst idea yet."
"Hey!"
"I'm kidding, kid."
"DON'T CALL ME KID, GIRLIE!!"
"HOW DARE YOU CALL ME A GIRLIE!!" And the two began to fight, shouting out insults between smacking each other on the face. They were the insults of a fifth-grader, which was probably what their mentality was. But eventually, they stopped and that's when Lyra asked an important question. "What are we doing with our lives?"
"Not dying, that's for sure," Orson responded. "Now come on! We've got a machine to build!"
For hours they worked, using the grapple hooks, string, Legos, and anything that was useful to build something that could hold the crystal on top of a large ice block, which they decided to push to the door opening and rest the crystal on top. Lyra did most of the work, even though she wasn't exactly an engineer. Orson helped here and there but for the most part, she pushed him aside. So he started getting creative. He snuck around and began fixing bits of the structure when she had her back turned.
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING!??" Lyra screeched, making Orson drop the grapple hook hook and cover his ears.
"Don't yell! And I'm fixing a problem."
"I was going to fix the problem! I just hadn't gotten there yet!"
"You won't let me even try to help!" Orson wailed. "I know how to do this!"
"So do I!"
"This is my strength! I know hot to build stuff! And it's my Legos anyway!"
"But that's my grapple hook!"
"Yeah, well I found the crystal!"
"But I know what I'm doing!"
"I know it better!" Orson surged forwards to knock Lyra over. Out of pure defense reaction, Lyra swung her arm and slapped Orson's face with the back of her hand, knocking the teen over and sending him tumbling across the ground.
The minute she saw what she did, Lyra yelped. "Oh reekshite! I'm sorry, Orson!" She ran over to check on him. "Dammit, I didn't mean to do that." She bent down to inspect him for any severe injuries.
Orson slapped her across the face when she was close enough. "Kriff you, Lyra." He kicked her aside as he rose to a sitting position. Orson looked over at Lyra, who was on the ground. Lyra sat up and the two locked eyes. For some reason, they began laughing. "Aw, shoot, we make a terrible team," Orson said. Lyra couldn't agree more.
After that incident, Lyra let him help out more. They finished the crystal holding assistant, then they pushed the ice block to the large door. "I'm going to see if I can contact Galen via Morse Code. Go get the crystal since you have abnormal strength for someone your size."
"I grew up lifting heavy things."
Orson nodded. "Obviously. Hey Lyra, do you mind if I ask where you grew up?"
"I grew up on Aria Prime."
"What did you do growing up?"
"I had to hunt for food to eat because my parents were very low on money. My father was a drunkard, spending every penny we earned on heavy drinks like the illegal one, Ogdin. My mother was lazy, never wanted to get a job, nor did she want to do anything with me at all. The moneymaking fell on my father, who somehow managed to do his job even though he was half drunk all the time. My job was to bring the meat."
Orson felt somewhat bad for Lyra. "So... how did you get here?"
"I went to the University of Rudrig before I came here. Last summer, I returned home and found my father was drunk again. He got violent and took his frustration out... and my mother just laughed from the corner..." Orson saw tears in Lyra's eyes. She didn't need to say anything else for him to piece the puzzle together. "It went on for a week, every day, before I got a letter saying I was accepted to the Republics Program. My parents were against it but I didn't want to listen. Not anymore. So I ran."
Orson wrapped his arms around Lyra and hugged her tightly. "I'm so sorry," he said quietly. "I would have been terrified in your position."
"I was terrified," Lyra admitted, embracing him back. "I never want to see myself reflecting my parents in any way."
Orson nodded. "I think you're far from either of your parents, or what you described." Lyra sighed, satisfied with his answer. "I'm sorry for the way I've treated you. You actually make an awesome friend. I'm glad I know you."
Lyra smiled. "You're not a bad friend either, kid. Also, I think your relationship with Galen is kinda cute." Orson couldn't help but laugh a little. "But there's one thing I think you should know about Galen from the beginning of this semester, and I regret not telling you earlier."
"What is it?"
"I fucked Galen."
"YOU DID WHAT?!?????"
