Chapter 34
"Okay, we're here. Now what?" Ax asked, peeking through the window. Roman looked up from pulling his Resistance jacket off.
"We blend in."
"Have ya seen me?" Ax asked, gesturing at xemself. "I don't exactly 'blend in', pretty boy."
Roman glanced at Ax, his gaze lingering slightly too long. "Yeah, that will be a problem." He sighed and chucked his jacket in the corner of the cock-pit. "Guess we'll just have to make a break for it."
"We're not gonna just 'make a break far it'." Ax said. "If we wanna save Virgil and get out o' here alive-"
"Well, what's your plan then, Mx Know-It-All?" Roman snapped. He ran a hand through his hair, tense. "I don't have a lot of ideas and I don't think under pressure so if you have an idea, please, do tell the class."
Ax cracked xir knuckles. "Let me think." Xe said bitingly. "How many weapons d'ya have on'this ship?"
Roman shrugged. "Not my ship. Um... at least two." He hazarded a guess at.
"A blaster?" Ax asked. Roman nodded. Ax clapped. "Great. Give it here. We'll blast our way through."
Roman stared at xem. "That's even worse than my plan." He said. "At least my plan is quiet."
"The Empire punishes quiet more tha'it punishes blasters an' noise." Ax said. "Besides, ya said ya didn't have a plan an'that's my plan. Take it or leave it."
"I'm gonna leave it, thanks." Roman said. He sighed and ran a hand through his hair again. "Okay, how's this? We sneak in but if things get tough, we blast our way through, okay?"
Ax begrudgingly agreed. "Great." Roman flashed a small, nervous smile. "Besides, we've already docked. How difficult could it be?"
Very difficult, it turned out.
"Ax, where're we goin'?" Virgil yelled, falling behind slightly. He'd never been very athletic. Ax rolled xir eyes and grabbed Virgil's arm.
"No time ta rest, Virgil." Ax shot wildly over xir head, praying xe hit something that wasn't Virgil. "We gotta get ta pretty boy."
"Who?"
"Roman!" Ax knew that if Virgil wasn't so out of breath, he'd tease xem to no end. And for that, xe thanked Genar and everything else on high.
"Why ain't Princey out-" Virgil cut himself off with a yelp. His feet were thrown off the floor and he landed on his stomach with a thump.
"Come on, we don't have time!" Ax said, trying to pull him up again.
"I can't move!" Virgil said. "I can't move!" He repeated, panic tinting his voice. Ax's head shot up.
Someone was standing at the end of the corridor, reaching out to Virgil, hand clutched tightly. A Sith. Of course it had to be a damn Sith.
"Hey!" Ax yelled, drawing the Sith's attention. "Get off my Genardamned friend." Xe raised the blaster and shot.
The laser blast stopped just before it hit the Sith. It stopped. In. Mid. Air.
But surely that was impossible?
Ax kept trying to pull Virgil up with one hand and added another hand to the gun. Firing off another round of lasers, every single one hit the mark. Should've hit the mark.
They all stopped just before they reached the Sith.
"Idiot." Was all the Sith uttered before the lasers rocketed off the walls around them.
Something must've broken the connection because Virgil managed to scramble up and set off down the corridor. Ax fired wildly at the Sith again - probably hitting nothing - before following him.
"Which bay?" Virgil gasped out.
"12, go, go, go!" Ax said, speeding up. "Hey! Roman! Now would be a good time ta open up!" Xe yelled.
The landing slide to The Osiris crashed down. Roman stood at the mouth of the corridor and his face lit up as he saw Virgil.
"Vir-"
"Talk later, fly now!" Ax said, grabbing the side of the entrance to the ship to steady xemself. Virgil practically collapsed on the floor as soon as he got safely into the ship.
"Princey, can ya fly?" He wheezed, completely out of breath.
"Uh, yeah. Think so."
"Then what the fuck are ya waitin' for?!" Virgil snapped.
Ax fired again but dropped the blaster with a hiss. It was getting too hot in xir hand.
"Prolly for the best." Virgil said, pulling himself up. "Ya need to help me close this." He wrapped a piece of rope around a lever. "Pull'that."
Ax grabbed the lever with all four of xir hands and pulled. The landing slide came up with a crunch.
"We're good, Princey!" Virgil yelled down the corridor. "Fast as ya can, punch it!"
Well... that happened.
I'm not good at writing action scenes.
