Chapter 15
"Are you kidding, it's pitch black out there!" Roman protested. "I'm not going out there."
"Ya're not burnin' anythin' in here, Roman." Virgil snapped. He hit a button on the side of the wall and the landing slide crashed to the ground. "It'll stink up the whole ship. And I want to leave every part of T-3.5 behind."
"Then why carry the high-lum?" Roman asked, falling over the word clumsily. Virgil rolled his eyes.
"It's fuel, dipshit." He said. "Almost everythin' runs on it. The Osiris ain't any different and I betcha'that some ships in the Resistance used hieglum as well."
"Why is it purple?"
Virgil raised an eyebrow. "Why's yar fuel, what's it called... oil? Why's that black?" He countered.
Roman blinked. "Because it comes out of the ground. It's made of bones, I think."
Virgil snorted with laughed. "And ya call me twisted." He shook his head. He practically threw the blowtorch-looking item at Roman and gave him another shove onto the landing slide.
"If ya get into trouble, shout and I might come runnin'. If ya lucky." Virgil grinned at Roman before disappearing into the ship.
"I damn hate you, Virgil." Roman growled as he stormed into the pilot room. Virgil looked up.
"The feelin's more than mutual, Roman." He said, a slight snarl in his voice. "I'm still waitin' on my apology."
"And you can damn choke on it too." Roman snarled. He sat down in the co-pilot chair and threw the blowtorch down at Virgil's feet.
"Ya break it, ya pay for it." Virgil said, turning a page in his book.
"What's that?" Roman asked. Virgil looked up at him.
"A book."
"A huh?"
"A book." Virgil said slowly. "E-75 used to have loads of them. But then one of you 'scientists' found a hologram-"
"No, they made holograms." Roman interrupted. Virgil raised an eyebrow at him.
"Whatever ya wanna believe, Princey." He said before looking back at his book. "Anyway, they found a hologram and it took over yar planet. They had no need for books so they shipped them off all over the galaxy. Most of them went to my planet, actually."
"Which one's that?" Roman asked.
"Dracula." Virgil said. "Ancient, ain't it? Still manages to hold a captivatin' story, though. That's what's interestin'."
"That's ages old." Roman said. Virgil nodded, turning another page in his book. "Anyway, you said that thing wouldn't hurt. It fucking did!"
"I never said it wouldn't hurt, I said it wouldn't burn ya." Virgil cast Roman a glance. "Seein' as ya still have ya hair, skin and clothes, I'd say I was pretty right. But ya right." He looked back at his book. "Hurt's like bein' shot. It goes away, though."
"When? It still hurts." Roman whined, crossing his arms and wincing.
"I won't tell ya until ya apologise." Virgil said. Roman said nothing.
"Ain't it nice?" Virgil asked conversationally. "To sit here. In silence."
Roman looked away sulkily. Virgil curled his legs under him and kept reading his book.
"It ain't me who's hurt, Roman." Virgil said after a while. "I can sit here for a lot longer than ya can."
Roman didn't say anything. Virgil raised an eyebrow and laughed.
"Wow, really a Resistance fighter, ain't ya?" He asked. "Almost impressin'." He stretched and marked his place. "Anyway, I'm gonna catch a few before tomorrow. See ya."
Virgil got up and left the room. Roman scrunched his nose up and crossed his arms tighter. Stupid engineer. What did he know, anyway?
Roman sighed. "Virgil?" He called. "I'm sorry."
There was no reply. Roman sighed again and got up.
"Stupid... Goddamn..." He muttered as he left the room. He nearly walked directly into Virgil.
"Apology accepted." Virgil said with a smirk. "And water. That's what helps. Cold water. It's like a burn." Virgil poked Roman in the forehead. "Dummy."
"Idiot." Roman muttered.
"Dumbass."
"Moron."
"Asshole." Virgil said, laughing. "Whatever. I'm gonna get some sleep. Suggest ya do the same."
"How do I know when I'm meant to wake up?" Roman asked.
Virgil smirked at him mischieviously. "Oh, believe me," he said, "ya'll know."
They made up. Isn't that nice? *smiles in I'm going to destroy them all*
Bye,
Blaize
