Karan looked at his wrist watch, 8:37am. His station was about to come, he stood up and picked up his luggage. The train stopped and he got off at Kasaragod Railway Station. Right next to the ticket counter was a man standing with a board that had Karan's name written on it. Karan walked toward to the man, "hello" Karan smiled, "yeh board wala Karan me hi hu" He said. "Hello Sir, kaise hai aap? Safar kaisa raha aapka?" The man asked. Karan simply smiled and nodded. "Chalte chalte baate kare? Mujhe thodi jaldi hai" Karan said. The two left the station.

"Gajrajdweep pohonchne me kitna time lagega?" Karan asked, "5 minutes me port pohonch jaenge, aur fir boat se aadha ghanta jag jaega" The man replied.

They left in the boat. Karan opened his bag and took a file out, "Director General of Forests, Karan Singh Randhawa" the front cover said. He took a deep breath and opened the file to re-read the case he was going to work on. It was every forest officer's dream to work in Gajrajdweep. The island had the largest forest with a variety of flora. What made it special, were the elephants that lived there. Gajradweep hosted the largest elephant sanctuary in India, and Karan was going there to protect the animals that lived there.

He found a map of Gajrajdweep at the end. He looked up and realised that they were approaching the island. The famous 500 feet tall Lord Ganesha statue, also known as Gajraj, was right in front of him. The idol of Lord Ganesha was embedded in a wall of stones, a waterfall was washing the idol continuously and the water was merging in a river.

Karan paid the man and got off the boat. He bowed to the huge idol and started following the signs to the sanctuary.

He stopped when he saw a crowd of people standing near a small lake. He decided to go there and check. "Excuse me, hatiye please" He pushed some people aside. He could not believe what he saw, a baby elephant was lying on the ground. He immediately checked if it was still alive, but it was too late.

"Kisne maara isko?" He asked the people standing there. "Pata nhi, hamne kucch haathio ki awaaz suni thi raat me, socha tufaan ki wajah se darre honge" One of them replied. Karan shook his head, he was highly disappointed. Someone came in the jungle, and killed an elephant, nobody witnessed it. He decided to leave the scene.

After a ten to fifteen minutes walk, he arrived at the entrance. "Door bell bhi nhi hai, bajau kya!?" He asked himself. "Excuse me?" He heard a familiar voice, he stood still for a couple of moments. He knew who that voice belonged to, he had been waiting years to hear that voice. He turned around and saw her, finally. Devaki Nair, the only woman he loved and gave his heart to.

Devaki's jaw dropped when she saw him, her cheeks were red. There was a time when she used to love him, but what he did to her was enough for her to hate him. They were both speechless. The scenes from their last meeting seven years ago were flashing in front of their eyes. Suddenly someone tapped on Devaki's shoulder, "Didi woh...yeh kon hai?" Sameeksha, Devaki's younger sister, asked as she moved her gaze toward Karan. Devaki didn't know what to say.

"I'm the Director General of Forests, Karan Singh Randhawa" Karan shook hands with Sameeksha. "Hi" He said forwarding his hand to shake it with Devaki. She looked at him and then did the handshake. "How can I help you, Sir?" Devaki asked crossing her arms, "you can call me Karan" He said locking his eyes with hers. "Wildlife Crime Control Bureau ne mera transfer yaha kia hai, forest me chalte hue kucch crimes ke bareme pata karne ke lie" He replied.

Devaki sighed and looked away, "yeh jungle hai. Masoom janwaar rehte hai yaha, koi crime nhi chal raha yaha" She said, "masoom janwaaro ke saath saath yaha aur bhi janwaar rehte hai" He said looking at Devaki from tip to toe. She cocked her eyebrows, "yaha ke janwaar bhi aapke sheher ke insaano se acche hai" Devaki said raising her voice.

"Bade bhaiya aa gey!" Sameeksha said, "hello gentleman" Vidyut said shaking his hand with Karan. "Hello Sir, Director General of Forests, Karan Singh Randhawa. Nice to meet you Sir" Karan said. Vidyut smiled, "aapke aane ki news mujhe mil geyi thi" He said. "Bhaiya news mil geyi thi to aapne mujhe bataya kyu nhi!?" Devaki asked. "Dimaag se nikal gaya tha" Vidyut replied, "Karan, please follow me" He took him inside the house.

"Aap kyu itna bhadki hui ho?" Sameeksha asked Devaki, she simply passed her a expressionless look. "Okay fine, chill out" Sameeksha said giving up, "accha Raf...ermm Dilin Bhaiya kaha hai?" She asked, "andar honge" Devaki replied codly. Sameeksha nodded and left.

Devaki bit her lower lip and took a deep breath to control her anger. Why was he back?

Welcome to the Jungle Devakibb , thisis_sam , and all the other readers. This story is inspired from the Bollywood movie Junglee.
The fiction is really to special to me, I'll be trying to explain an important topic in this story, I hope you all will understand it.

I'm also thinking of turning this into a series of adventure books, depending on the love and support Gajrajdweep gets 😊
