The Flying Dutchman (Gadralneure)

The Flying Dutchman

So long upon the waves and swells,

beneath the stars

which silently have watched our lives,

since well before

Magellan took his primal step,

I've sailed.

So long accursed.

for evils I cannot recall,

to ride the seas

and never touch the land,

to glide past everywhere

that once was home to me.

Each night I pray forgiveness

and ask my lord

what I must do to end the pain,

to make amends

that I may feel

the earth beneath my feet again.

Each night

no answer comes.

I am abandoned and adrift

within the sight of ports

that I shall never walk,

with people I shall never meet

and women I shall never love,

with nothing to look forward to,

but salty air and boundless oceans.

Always swaying,

rocking to the rhythm of eternal time

upon the torrent of my tears

that rain upon the vast

and unforgiving brine.
