Chapter 8: Prayers

I woke up to the sound of grunts and curses, scrambling out of bed I quickly ran downstairs and turned on the light. Gabriel was in the midst of getting up, his arms braced against the couch and his legs were in a odd position on the floor, his foot left foot bending against the pressure. Quickly going towards him I gently sat him down on the couch. He gave a huff of breath and tried to calm down his breathing.
"What were you doing?" I asked him, standing back up fully.
"Had to use the bathroom." I rolled my eyes some.
"You should have called me..and when did your legs get hard to stand on?" I inquired and he looked down, not wanting to answer. "Gabriel." I said and he continued to look down. He sighed and looked up at me.
"A few days now." Getting on my knees I pulled up his pants leg and almost gasped at the sight. Why didn't I check his legs as soon as he got here? His calf was bruised immensely, his big toe was black underneath the nail and pus leaked out of the sides of the nail. Raising his other pant leg I noticed that the entire calf had a large wound on it, the wound had long since stopped bleeding but pus secreted out of the wound from infection that was surely present. Sighing I got up and grabbed the first aid kit from the bathroom and a few washcloths and towels. Kneeling back in front of him I got to work on his right leg where the wound was.
After taking care of his legs and feet I cleaned up the mess and got a small foot-bath from the closet in the living area. Filling it with warm water, I brought it back to where Gabriel was and set it on the floor, putting his foot, with the blood blister underneath his toe, into the foot-bath.
"Thank you." Gabriel said after a few moments of silence.
"You should've told me before." He nodded a bit and sighed some.
"I know...sorry."
"It's fine, just when something like this happens, you have to tell me about it." He nodded again and leant against the back of the couch.
"So..whats with the water?" He asked.
"The water will help with taking the nail off." He gave me a look of confusion.
"What?"
"Well it's a blood blister and it's infected, I don't have many supplies here so it's the best I can do. The nail is gonna come off."
"Is it gonna hurt?" There was fear in his voice.
"Not really, the nail will grow back, don't worry." He nodded again. "I'll get rid of the water in a little bit, for now just go back to sleep okay?"
"Okay." Gabriel said and he pulled the blanket over his torso and legs and closed his eyes. I got up and went to make some tea in the kitchen.
Half an hour later I turned off the lights and went back to bed. I had cleaned off Gabriel's nail after ten minutes of his foot being in the water and wrapped it with gauze and laid him horizontally on the couch and put more blankets on him. Getting into my bed, I sighed in exhaustion and laid back onto it. Closing my eyes I had one thought; hopefully Gabriel recovers fully.
                              Gabriel's p.o.v.
I woke up to the sound of a tea kettle going off, stifling a yawn I rubbed my eyes in the half awake state I was in. Sitting up I stretched and ran a hand through my hair, grimacing I took notice of the grease that covered my hair. I could imagine what I looked like. The tea kettle was turned off and [Your Name] walked into the room, carrying a cup of tea and some soup. She placed it all on the table beside the couch.
"Good morning, how're you feeling?" She asked and she got out the dinner tray and placed it front of me and puts the soup and tea on it.
"I'm feeling better." I replied, sitting up more and swinging my legs over the side of the couch to better accommodate myself for eating.
"That's good." She said and left the room again. I picked up the spoon and started to eat, chewing softly on the chicken and noodles. [Your Name] came back into the room with a small plastic cup filled with red liquid and another plastic cup that had two pills in it. She placed them on the table. I looked at them and then up at her.
"What are those for?" I asked, picking up the ones with the pills in them.
"The pills are for the infection and the liquid is to help with your fever." I gave her a look.
"But I don't have a fever?" I questioned.
"You've been burning up since last night, I think the fact of you being out in -10 degrees while being injured and now in a warm space made the fever spike. So yeah, you do have a fever."
"Oh.." I didn't know what to say, I couldn't deny what she said so I took the pills and the liquid, drinking the tea to wash it down. I went back to eating the soup in silence. She went back into the kitchen and ran the faucet.
After finishing my soup, I drank my tea slowly, savoring the peppermint and honey flavor. [Your Name] came back into the room and took the bowl into the kitchen and came back. She sat by the window and looked outside.
"I was wondering," she looked up at me, "if you could take me to the bathroom?" I asked her and she nodded. She got up and moved the table away from me and I placed the cup on the table beside me. She bent down a bit and grabbed my arm and waist and helped me up. I held onto her shoulders as I braced my weight onto her. She carefully maneuvered me to the hallway adjacent to the living area, and into the first door on the left. As she held me, she lifted up the toilet seat cover.
"You can get the rest from here right?" She asked and I shrugged.
"I think so." I said as she sat me on the toilet. "Yeah I think I'll be good." I nodded.
"Alright, I'll be right outside if you need my help." She left and closed the door. Gripping my pants I yanked them down and sighed lightly when they didn't put up any resistance. I did my business and pulled them back up. Leaning against the back of the toilet, I closed my eyes, praying for Castiel and hoping he heard me. If anyone did. They probably don't care anyways, they all think I'm dead. Gripping my hair in frustration I whispered under my breath.
"Come on little bro, I know you're out there." I waited a few minutes before I told [Your Name] that I was done. She came in, a bottle in hand. She popped the cap open and gestured to hold out my hands, and I did. She put the hand sanitizer on my hands and I rubbed them together. She helped me up, figuring she was going to take me to the couch, I was perplexed when she lead me further down the hallway. I looked up at her but she was fixated in carrying all my weight. She pushed open the door with her foot and led me inside the room. There was a bed with a nightstand next to it, a lamp on top of it. A dresser across from the bed with a tv on top of it, a window and a closet adjacent from the bed. [Your Name] sat me on the bed and put my legs up onto it. I sighed a bit at the comfortable mattress and leaned back against the pillows.
"I figured the couch got uncomfortable at night." She said, turning on the lamp.
"Thank you..you didn't have to but thanks." She nodded and turned to leave.
"If you need anything, I'll be upstairs." She left and closed the door till it was ajar. I got more comfortable on the bed and relaxed, pulling the blankets over me in the process. I closed my eyes and tried my best to fall asleep, even though I woke up not too long ago, I'd rather sleep than overthink right now.
