• happy accidents

The line only grew past the entrance doors. There were a large number of codes and entity's that moved throughout the area. Fundy found comfort in his little corner, sat still on the iron bench and waited for his commission to finish up. Minutes ticked by and seconds rewinded, time finding no relevance within the lobby. He could stretch, rest, run around with not one collection of code glancing his way.

But of course one collapsed in the seat beside him, body already turned his way and their foot tapping in excitement. "Oh, Fundy, am I surprised to see you!" They exclaimed.

Fundy glanced at them, a friendly smile playing on his lips as he recognized the stranger, from their black boots and green hoodie, wrapping around that signature smiley faced mask. "Hey, Dream, long time no see, huh?"

He couldn't help but match the same energy presented towards him, the other's presence always carries such a warming energy.

"Yeah!" Dream nodded, "last time I saw you, we were trying to beat that world before it completely fell apart. You still owe me that redo by the way."

"Yes, of course," Fundy mused. He shifted his position, turning more to regard Dream. "So, what brings you out here? I assume you revolve around Hypixel, MCC, and that new server of yours."

"I'm just setting up another manhunt with my friends, but it seems that it may take a while," he gestured to the line that went on as far as the eye could see. "World developers seem to be understaffed these days. What are you here for?" He asked, curiously.

"I accidentally crashed my old world," Fundy shrugged. "I guess I did too many tests and it all just blew up and sent me into the void."

"Oh that sucks. Did you save anything at least?" He asked. Fundy shook his head whilst blowing a raspberry. His noise of denial made Dream chuckle sadly and nudge him softly. "Why don't you come with me? I have a few errands to run as I wait for a new world to render and we can hang out without the ground beneath us falling apart. It'll be fun, let's go!"

Leaving Fundy with no room to reply, he was hauled up and dragged along to the portals. Hand in hand they disappeared in the purple haze and left with no second thoughts.

They landed in a hub with villagers stationed at every corner. There were far less people around and Dream effortlessly led him through each alley and turn they passed by.

"Alright," Fundy started, keeping up his pace with the other. "So in between manhunts, running a server, and training for MCC, what does the Dream get up to?" He questioned.

Dream chuckled, "I hangout with friends, Sapnap and George, y'know? Maybe I'll work on a new coding project like—." He grabbed Fundy's hand, pulling him off to the side, just in time to clear the way of two kids that came barreling past them. "Like the one we did together but other than that, not much. What about you?" He finished.

Fundy's eyes followed the line of chaos the kids left behind them and then looked up at Dream. "Me? Well I kind of keep to myself in my own world."

"Just coding and blowing up projects?"

Fundy nodded.

"Well don't you get bored or lonely?"

Fundy shook his head. "No, of course not," he denied. "I always have people over to test my codes. I was actually supposed to meet up with Wilbur Soot to do a plug-in where the surface all feels like ice, but there have been some delays in that," he said, choosing not to mention the obvious.

"Ah, I see," Dream nodded. "Lucky for you, you get to get out of your little world and hangout with me!"

"Why is that lucky for me?"

He jumped on the souls of his feet like an excited puppy. "Cause we get to hang out and not be worried about the world falling apart around us!" He tightened his hold on Fundy's hand and pulled him further along. "C'mon!"

Fundy had completely overestimated the amount of errands Dream had on his list. It felt like only less than an hour when he and Dream were heading back to the portal hub. The speed runner was already punching in an address and port when Fundy was just wondering if his world was done rendering yet. He held out his fingerless gloved hand, bowing sloppily.

"My lord, may you accompany me on our next venture?" He said in some undistinguished accent, causing a few half huffs of amusement to fall from Fundy's lips.

"Well of course, my good sire." Hand in hand they disappeared in a portal once more.

Fundy could have rolled his eyes at the MCC training server. But Dream only beckoned him to lead him somewhere for once. And of course the first stop was parkour warrior.

They made it through the first few levels together, offering side remarks and teases. At one point Fundy had gained the lead, waiting for Dream at the next checkpoint. He watched the green blur jump and bounce off of one platform to the other, just one step away from him... before he slipped off the edge and respawned at the previous checkpoint.

"Oh come on!" Fundy saw him stomp his foot at the far away platform.

"You're doing great, Dream. It's not a competition so there's no need to rush!" Fundy waved, ushering him to continue on.

"This is one hundred percent a competition. I'm here to beat you!" Dream called back.

Fundy laughed, turning away from the green man. "Oh well in that case, I guess I'll keep going. Meet you at the end!" He yelled before continuing through the course.

"No, Fundy!" Dream zoomed and had eventually caught up, jumping to the same ladder as Fundy, they both slipped and respawned at the previous checkpoint, nearly on top of one another.

"That was probably an accident," Dream said from beneath Fundy, giggles resonating fast from his chest.

Fundy smacked his arm. "What do you mean probably? I was winning."

"No," Dream waved him off, "I really just wanted to drag you down with me." He laughed hard, "ah that was fun."

"Clingy much?"

"Only to those I like," Dream paused, glancing towards his direction. He cleared his throat and looked around. "What about dodgebolt?" He swapped topics, "I think we have time for just another round?"

Dream's presence during the day was a pleasant surprise. Fundy had expected to waste his time stuck on that metal bench for hours and minutes to come, but instead he felt as if he was blessed by some gods before him. He didn't mind the outside servers when he was running around with Dream. There seemed to be this childish curiosity that followed his green friend. Something refreshing or exciting.

"Hey, I have a question. What percentage of hybrid are you?" Dream spoke up halfway through the third round of dodgebolt. His hood was down as the beating sun only grew in heat. "I haven't seen many other foxes other than Seapeekay, and you don't really have the same physical y'know as him."

"Oh, I'm not a hybrid..." Dream lowered his bow, letting the silence give Fundy a moment to expand on his statement. "There's a lot of trial and error when coding and sometimes you mess up your own in the process."

"So you mutated with a fox?"

Fundy nodded.

"Oh that's cool! The same sort of happened to my friend Sam!" Dream commented. "He's a redstone engineer and a creeper once blew up around his machines, causing his code to get all corrupted and mutated."

"He mutated with a creeper?" Fundy wondered.

"There's worse things..." Dream looked up, smirking behind his mask and snapping his string back in half a second, hitting Fundy straight in the chest with an arrow. "Like losing to me."

Fundy gasped from outside the arena looking down at Dream as he grinned proudly. "Such a showman," Fundy sighed, pushing Dream to the side as he met up with him. "C'mon, let's head back before they give our worlds to someone else."

The line that looked so daunting before had diminished by little. A quiet 'ding' alerted Fundy on his device and he smiled. "Looks like our little play date is up," he mentioned, looking over to the other.

Dream tilted his head in thought. "We could do this again? Maybe?" He questioned, "maybe we plan something together ahead of time?"

He nodded, a small burst of excitement blossoming in his chest at the thought. "Yeah, that'd be fun."

Neither moved. Mostly staring at one another, wondering who was going to turn away first or say something more until...

"Hey, Fundy?" Dream spoke again.

Fundy perked up. "Yeah, Dream?"

"Uh, how'd you like to be invited over to someone else's server for a change?"

"What? Are you inviting me to yours?"

"I mean..."

"That sounds nice."

And looking back at that unpredictable day when they found each other by accident, Fundy could confirm that moving into Dream's server was nice.

Quiet nights were wasted under bright stars and senseless mumbles. Even some days where Fundy would follow Dream around until the hooded man noticed him, he'd jump out and ask a quick question of whether or what was allowed. Quickly not a fan of not blowing up the world, Dream jokingly promised that the two of them would soon have a world to blow up as much as to their delights.

And other days were filled with meaningless laughs. Small pranks being left in the other's wake, slowly evolving to notes or maybe flowers (Fundy wasn't too sure where their friendship was heading at this pace), but he took it in stride.

Weeks to months to oh who knows however long until one night Fundy is greeted at his door with a bouquet of roses and Dream standing tall in a suit and a nervous smile, almost on the verge of tears as well but that could be put to blame by the half put together band of off key serenades and broken guitar strings produced by George and Sapnap.

"Fundy," Dream whispered, trying to divert the other's attention from the screeching of Love Drunk lyrics. "Hey, would you like to go on a date with me?" He asked, holding out the flowers.

And Fundy smiled, nodding gratefully and pouncing on Dream with a great hug. "I would love to, Dream."

And throughout late night talks, movie dates, and only blowing up a few worlds together, Fundy thought to himself, not too bad. It was a simple life that he got by on with a plus one by his side. And an oath to love one another forever, he wondered if they'd meet in a different life or even love each other whole for all the same.
