21: You Know I'm Never Gonna Let You Go

Title: Time Bomb by All Time Low

The week passed relatively quickly. For some reason, Trace didn't try to do much except little petty insults.

"Court tomorrow," I sigh and move my head to look at Jack. I'm laying on top of him, with the side of my head against his chest, on the bed.

He brushes his fingers through my hair and pecks the top of my head. "You talked to the lawyer, all you have to do is tell them what happened. I have to be there too. Your- I mean- our friends will be there. Principal Wentz will be there. You'll be okay."

We had prepped for court a few days ago, it was a simple call. The lady just told us that we would have to tell the jury and judge what happened. The video is enough evidence to put Mr. Har- uh, Kenneth- away for a long time.

I guess we're just lucky you only need one party to consent to record a video- or whatever the lawyer lady said.

"You're gonna be fine," he murmurs. I move up so that I'm straddling his waist. I press my hands against his chest. He stares up at me. "Alex-"

I lean down and kiss him. "Shhh," I whisper against his lips. I sit back up and smile. He blinks in confusion. "Okay!" I smile and roll off him.

He yelps and glares at me. "Lexyyy-"

"Jackyyyy," I mock.

He pouts. "You're so mean to me."

"You did it first." I cross my arms.

He pats my head and I whine in response. He lets out a laugh before picking me up and collecting me in his arms as if I would melt away. He kisses all over my face before kissing my lips twice in a row.

"When does your mom get back?" He asks softly.

"Tomorrow morning."

He nods. "Wanna order pizza?" A grin forms on his lips.

"Duh," I laugh. He stands up, while still holding me in his arms. "Jack- you need to put me down."

"Or do I?" He asks. He attempts to grab his phone but fails. "No, yeah, I do," he says. He walks back to the bed and lays me down before grabbing his phone.

I listen as he orders before he sits beside me. He wraps his arms around me. "So, do you wanna go downstairs?"

I nod and he pecks my nose before pulling away.

We walk down and go to his couch. He sits down and pulls me onto his lap. I swing my legs to the side and lean against him.

"Jack?"

He looks at me.

"Are you scared?" I ask softly. "For tomorrow, I mean."

He shrugs. "I'm just worried. Kenneth should have pleaded guilty, but he decided not to. But it should go smoothly." He nuzzles his nose against mine and presses a soft kiss against my lips.

I press my ear against his heart and take a deep breath.

The doorbell rings and I get off his lap. He rushes over to the door and smiles at the delivery guy.

"Uh, Barakat?" The guy says.

"Yep," Jack says and reaches into his pocket. "Oh damn- Alex can you get my wallet please?"

I nod and rush upstairs. I walk into his room and look around. I grab his jacket and pull it out of his pocket.

I walk downstairs and hand it to him. "Thanks, Alex," Jack says and hands the guy $20. I look over and see a piece of paper slip out. Jack grabs the pizza and closes the door. "I'm gonna bring it to the kitchen," he says and pecks my cheek. He walks away.

I stare at the paper and gasp.

"Lex?" Jack walks back over. "Oh."

You mean so much to me. Never forget that. <3 ~Lex

I smile as he wraps his arms around my waist. He rests his chin on my shoulder.

"I wrote this for you like... Four years ago," I mumble. He nods and kisses my jaw.

"I don't feel very great," Jack groans and buries his face into a pillow. I sigh and lay next to him. I hold him against me. "Thanks, Lex."

"I hope you feel better soon."

He shrugs and turns his head to face me. "I don't know. My parents don't care about me. No one at school really cares- except you, of course."

"That isn't true. Your parents are just a little busy right now. Maybe after their work thing is done, they'll come back?"

"They're never here anyways," he mumbles. He gives me a slight smile. "Thanks for staying with me Lex," he sighs.

"You need to sleep, Jacky. It's 1 am, and we have school tomorrow," I say softly. I run my hand down his arm. I stand up.

"Wait, Lex?" Jack sits up. I stop. "C-can you stay until I fall asleep?"

I smile and sit back down. He curls up close to me. "Jacky run away with me, I know I sound crazy don't you see what you do to me," I sing softly. He smiles at the name change. Before, it was Wendy, but I kept singing 'Jacky' as a joke. He closes his eyes, and eventually, he falls asleep.

I slowly move off the bed and walk to his desk. I grab a small slip of paper and pen, jotting down a note. I smile and put it next to his phone before leaving the room.

"And I've kept it ever since," he says, kissing my cheek again. "It used to be in my phone case, but then I finally bought a wallet, so I put it in there."

"I remember it in your phone case, but I thought you just threw it away after the whole... Situation happened."

He sighs and pulls away. "Alright, let's go eat."

~~~
He wraps his arm around me as we walk down the street. We decided to go out for a walk after dinner to get some fresh air.
I lean against him and smile.
"Hey, Alex," a voice says.
Jack stops and turns. "Go away," he snaps. "Why are you even here?"
"Bail," he says and shrugs. I turn slowly and the air in my lungs suddenly disappear. Jack steps forward.
"Well then, I am sure you aren't allowed to talk to Alex, so why don't you get out of here before I call the cops on you," Jack grumbles.
Mr. Harris just shrugs. "I'm just here to say something to Alex." He glances at me. He eyes me. "I'm going away for a while, Alex," he says. Jack steps in front of me. "God's sake, Jack," Mr. Harris groans. "Alex, you're going to regret this."
I step away. Jack clenches his fist. "Go away, or else," Jack growls, picking up his phone.
"Oh, you aren't going to punch me again?" Mr. Harris smirks. "Court is tomorrow, remember? I can't wait to see you."
"Kenneth, I swear to god-"
Mr. Harris just smiles and walks away. Jack turns to me. "Alex?"
I bite my lower lip and look at him. My eyes fill with tears. "J-Jack-" I gasp. He steps to me and holds me against him. He gently rubs my back.
"It's okay, I'm here. You just need to get through tomorrow, and it'll all be over," he says softly. "Come on, let's go home."
He walks me home and grabs his phone. "Give me a second, Lex," he says and walks to the side. I press my lips together as I see him walk to the kitchen. He glances at me before pressing the phone to his ear.
He turns around. "No, I'm serious," his hushed voice snaps. I step over to hear.
"Zack, please. Just do it. You won't get in trouble, because he's a coward, all you need to do is send the letter." He lets out a long sigh. "Yeah... I would."
I decide to walk back to the couch before he realizes I was listening to him. I grab a pillow and hug it.
He walks over with two mugs. He smiles at me and hands me one. "It's hot chocolate," he says. He sets his down and sits next to me. I set my mug down and curl up next to him.
He wraps his arms around me and kisses my forehead. I nuzzle my head against his chest. He rests his head on mine.
"Jacky?" I mumble. He hums. "Uh, god uh- I hope you know you're the first person I've ever been with."
He blinks. "Yeah, I know." A smile forms on his lips. "Why?"
"I'm not going to be very good at... Relationships."
"If you're talking about sex, don't worry about that. I'll wait until you're ready. Even if that's in twenty years, Lex," he says. He cradles my cheek and gently runs his thumb over my skin. "Don't be so worried about that."
I shrug. "I dunno. You've been with... People of experience-" He groans. "And I- I obviously have none."
He presses his forehead against mine. "Shhh, I don't care about that. I just care about you, Lex." He tilts his head and kisses me gently.
I smile and sigh, moving to be against him. He picks me up and sets me on his lap. He gently rubs my leg with his hand. "I just want you to be happy," he says softly. "And safe."
"Same goes for you. I may not be able to beat the shit out of someone, but I know at least four people that will. And once that's over, I'll be here to make you feel better."
He smiles and pecks my cheek. "That's what I lo-like about you," he says. I blink. He kisses my nose. He kisses my neck softly, kissing everywhere around the area.
I let out a soft sigh as he kisses around my jaw. "Jack-" I gasp as he sucks on my neck.
He stops and smiles. "Do you want me to stop?"
I shake my head and hold his hand. He grips my hand and goes back to kissing my neck. He sucks softly on one spot. "Fuck-" I sigh. As soon as I do it, my face goes hot.
He laughs against my skin. "You're so cute," he mumbles. He pulls away and stares at me. "And red. Jesus- Alex," he laughs. "Breathe."
I bury my face into his shoulder.
"Ahhh, my shoulder is burning," he teases. I whine and he laughs again. He pats my back before rubbing my shoulder.
"You suck," I grumble.
"Do you want me to?" He wiggles his eyebrows. I groan and jokingly smack his arm. "Ow," he gasps dramatically.
He kisses the back of my hand. "Even though you're so embarrassed, you're still so cute," he mumbles. "So goddamn cute."
"I'm not cute," I grumble.
"Shh, you're cute, and you can't convince me otherwise. You're the cutest I know," he says and kisses my cheek. "But also insanely hot. And smart. And kind. And-"
"Jack, we're already dating, you don't need to smother me up," I say.
He shrugs. "But you make it so easy."
I roll my eyes and lean against him. "Then I get to smother you too."
"Lex-"
"You're the best person I've ever met. I know the last three years were rough, but I still like you so much. You're so kind and thoughtful," I say. "And I know you'd protect me, and even though it feels like so many people are out to get me, I feel safe."
He smiles and tucks my hair behind my ears. He cradles my cheek and presses his forehead against mine, closing his eyes. "Can I take you out on a date tomorrow?"
"Yes," I whisper and press my lips to his.
