Chapter 16: Promise

(Astrid's pov)

I-I couldn't believe how much Hiccup had changed. His hair was longer than ever before, he had four twists on the top of his head and had a bridge of hair holding the twists together in the back and the sides of his head were braided. He had a mustache above his lips, light stubble on his cheeks and a goatee on his chin. His eyes however are what sent a chill down to my very soul, he had a scar going down his right eye and the eye itself looked faded, but never the less, both his eyes held nothing but pure hatred towards us all.

Everyone gathered was panicking and Stoick tried grabbing their attention but nothing was working, so he grabbed his war hammer and roared out. "I SAID SHUT UP AND LISTEN!!!!" He banged his war hammer against one of the pillars, that caused everyone to quiet down and turned their attention back to our chief. "We knew this day would come when we heard Hiccup still lives! But I believe he could still be persuaded to at least spare some of us."

"Were you not listening Stoick?! Your crazy son wants to kill us all!!" Mildew cried out, causing an uproar of agreement to ring in the air, Stoick turned to Mildew and growled out. "Yes, I heard Hiccup's pledge to kill us all Mildew, but I want to actually talk to my son and at least try to--"

"Stoick, there is no peace with your son. He came here for war, so if thats what he wants? I say thats what we give him!" Spitelout barked out, again causing an uproar of agreement from the Vikings inside, our chief pinched the bridge of his nose before nodding. "Very well. We're familiar  with our place of battle— Bear Island. Its fields are large enough for us to do battle, we know the land well and shall use such knowledge to our advantage. And if the gods will it? We shall defeat the traitor and his hordes."

Everyone grunted in agreement, I turned to Sihtric and whispered in his ear. "I need to talk to Hiccup." He turned to me as if I had lost my mind. "Are you out of your mind?! He wants to offer you up as a chew toy for his Night Fury's!" I nodded in understanding but continued. "Yes I am aware of the risk, but I just... I just need to at least try and ask for his forgiveness for taking away the only living thing he ever cared for at the time." Before Sihtric could respond, I turned to Stoick and spoke out firmly and boldly. "Chief? If I may speak?" Everyone turned to me and then turned to Stoick, the man nodded at me; allowing me to speak my mind.

"I wish to speak to Hiccup and attempt to balm grievous injuries inflicted upon him." However, my words were met with disapproving words, Mildew turned to me and pointed his staff at me. "Why suggest such insanity young Hofferson? That filthy traitor wants to kill just as badly, if not more for what you did to his pet dragon." I glared at Mildew before turning back to Stoick. "Please lord, what if I brought with me Gobber, Gothi and Fishlegs? They never actually hurt Hiccup and I believe he will at least speak with them." Everyone turned to Stoick and awaited his answer, our chief gave me a saddened look before shaking his head. "I'm sorry Astrid, but Hiccup... he can't be provoked even more by your very presence. We need the time to form a battle plan if we are to obtain victory."

I bowed my head in understanding and turn around to leave the Great Hall, as I pass Snotlout, he murmured out to me. "That was a stupid suggestion Hofferson." I then drove my knee into his groin and he groaned in pain as he clutched his groin and fell to his knees. Wrapping my fur cloak tightly around my body, I open the door to the Hall and leave the room with a sigh. Looking up to the heavens, I could see millions of snowflakes coming down and I closed my eyes as some of the tiny flakes latched on my eyelashes, looking out towards the horizon, I could only feel my eyes stinging with tears and accept the harsh reality of the situation we all face.

I don't believe the gods will be with us this time. Perhaps they never were with us, and the way I see it? Odin, Thor or any of the gods couldn't protect us from Hiccup's wrath.

The fire will come for us all and devour us until there is nothing ash and echos.

(Hiccup's pov)

Returning to my dreadnaught— Fury Rider, I dismounted Blaze and tore off my riding helmet and threw it with a roar of outrage. The nerve on Stoick for even daring to call me "son!" I was not his son, and never will be!! I could see my warriors and shield maidens staring at me, I then seethed out at them. "Is there something you wish to say to me?" My warriors all lowered their heads in fear at the raw rage dripping in my tone and shook their heads. "Then... BACK TO WORK!!!" I roared out, causing my warriors to carry on their duties on the ship.

::I understand you rage Hiccup, believe me, I myself want to sink my teeth into something and tear it to pieces. Or rather... someone::

Turning to Blaze, I nod at my dragon and reply back. "You and your siblings will avenge Toothless's death, and I will savor every second of Astrid Hofferson's blood curdling screams as she is torn to bloody pieces." I felt a shiver of excitement crawl down my spine at the very thought, and I would ensure that it would happen, if Astrid was foolish enough to cross my paths again.

"Blaze. Let out a signal shot. Its time to discuss strategy with Gunhild and the rest of the Danes." I say, my dragon nods at me and fires a plasma blot into the air as I watch as it explodes, not four minutes later, Gunhild, Aslaug, Hild, Frodo and Haesten arrived on the deck of my ship while riding the Night Fury's they all bonded with. I then invite my beloved and my allies into my join me in my battle preparation chambers, once gathered, I pulled out a map of Norway and laid it out for all to see.

"So, did seeing your old tormentors stoke the flames of your anger my friend?" Haesten asked me while he stroke his beard, I turned to the man and hummed in confirmation. "I had to control my rage whilst on top of Blaze. I wanted to slaughter them all inside that Great Hall. But..." I stroke my goatee and chuckled darkly before shrugging. "...I want to savor every last one of their deaths. Instead of just... finishing this prematurely." Turning everyone gathered, I nod at them all. "Thank you all for supporting me in my vendetta to exact vengeance."

Gunhild grabbed one of my hands and squeezed it gently, I looked into my loves, azure eyes and she smiled widely at me. "You've more than earned our respect my love. More importantly, you're a man of your word. You said we'd conquer Paris and now it and the whole of Frankia belongs to us! When you promise your former tribe that you'll wipe them out? You won't back down. Not after what they did to you and your first bonded dragon." I nod in thanks at Gunhild for her words before turning back to the other Danish rulers. "Do any of you have anything to say to me?"

Frodo scratched his head and shook his head. "It is true. You are a man of your word, and have made us all even more famous and wealthy by conquering Frankia. I am with you my friend. Until we meet again in Valhalla."

"I have no argument Lord Haddock. I am with you." Haesten said while nodding at me.

Turning to Aslaug and Hild, both queens nodded at me before speaking. "You stand as a Dane now. You are one of us, and always shall. Danes fight together and we will see this done, together." Hild said to me, Aslaug too spoke up. "Aye. Together."

I nod in thanks to my allies and to Gunhild before turning my attention back to the map in front of me. "Now, Stoick and the fools who wish to aid him and Berk will no doubt choose an island thats large enough for battle or choose a land they're intimate with and will use the land to their advantage and wait for us to arrive and pick off our armies with a whole manner of traps, bottlenecking us and other tactics." I draw out my long knife and point to three islands I know of that are large enough to wage battle on. "Claw Island, Bear Island and Shipwreck Shore are the three largest Islands that I know of which could hold all our forces combined and wage battle on."

"So what is your plan? Your not going to allow your father and his allies to simply use the island they choose to their advantage and pick our armies off do you?" Haesten asked, I turned to the man and shook my head. "Of course not, I'm not giving those animals a fair fight. If they choose Bear Island, we take the Hydra with us and have him burn the whole forests to the ground and in doing so? Smoking the enemy out and sending many of their numbers to the afterlife."

"And if your father and his allies don't choose Bear Island? What then?" Aslaug asked, I turn to her and shrug. "If they're still on Berk? We attack; we don't give them the time to marshal their forces and prepare to sail. We destroy their boats and send their hopes of fleeing my wrath to the bottom of the sea and hammer Berk into oblivion." I sheath my long knife and look up to my allies and raise my eyebrows. "If any of you have suggestions, I'd like to hear them."

Frodo spoke up while lightly scratching his chin. "What of the villagers of Berk? What will you do to them?" His question rung inside my mind and I closed my eyes, remembering just how much suffering and hell I went through from the villagers words, their fists and being humiliated by them all. Clenching my hands into fists, I look into Frodo's eyes, I answer him. "I'll burn them all alive and make them regret ever messing with me."

Gunhild wrapped one of her arms around my hips and nodded at me. "Like I said, you're a man of your word and will return the bitter favor." I smile at her and then turn back to my allies. "Anything else?" When nobody else spoke, I nodded and promised them. "When this is all over? I promise you all, we will move on to the next conquest until the Black Danes are the most feared Vikings on Midgard! We will walk away with more wealth than we can ever dream of, gain untouchable reputation and fame and our victories and stories will become the stuff of legend!" I said while pounding the table, causing my Danish allies to smile at the very thought of being immortalized.

"Follow me, and I will give you the world." I say, each Danish ruler bows their heads and swears an oath of loyalty to me and swear on their sacred arm rings to help me see this fight through. I smile and then give them orders. "Marshal your forces and be prepared for battle. Stoick will no doubt send someone to try and... talk me out of this. Whoever that unfortunate individual or individuals are? I shall send their heads back to Stoick as answer and provoke him to fight me. He will lose and they will all burn."

A/N: Be prepared for another update later on today, I can tell y'all are hyped for the battle to come, and believe me, it'll be well worth the wait, I'll hopefully post the first part of that battle today or perhaps tomorrow. But other than that? Stay tuned for more to come.
