I'm sick of seeing furries get hated on, so I decided to make this book about it :'). If anyone leaves hateful comments on this, they will be deleted. Sorry.

I'm also part of the furry community, if anyone was curious. I'm not a stranger who knows nothing about it. Anyways, let's get started.

What is a furry?

A furry is someone who takes interest in anthropomorphic (creatures with human characteristics, EX: A canine that stands on two legs and has clothing) animals. Some of them have their own 'fursonas', which are anthro or feral characters that they have created or 'adopted' (bought or traded from another person). These characters become their mascots and some even have 'fursuits'  custom made to match their fursona. They wear these suits at AnthroCon or just for fun. I'll go more in depth later.

That seems innocent, why are they hated on?

Some say that furries are turned on by images of animals or animal porn. This is very untrue. The fandom hates these people, since they give a terrible stereotype on furries.

You said most...?

Yes, there is a NSFW side to the furry fandom. Before you say anything, think about your own fandoms. They all have a sexual side. Need some examples? FNAF is an excellent one. A ton of the fandom tends to sexualize the characters for some reason. There's a sexual side to She Ra: The Princess of Power,  Sonic (especially Sonic), hell, even My Little Pony. A ton of band fanfiction has a ton of smut pairing irl people in intense sexual situations (after writing this I thought about the milk fic w h a t-)

The point is, everywhere you turn, there will be a sexual side. It doesn't matter what the fandom is or what it focuses around, you'll see people fucking in art work and animations.

Do furries think they're animals?

No, a good portion of furries do not believe they are animals. I think the correct term for those who think they're animals is 'Otherkin', but I'm not sure. (Edit: therians are those who believe they are existing animals and otherkin are those who think they are mythical creatures)

popular examples of furries today?

A ton, actually. Mickey Mouse along with many disney characters are anthros. Many kids shows include furries, like Paw Patrol. 80's cartoons have anthros as well, a really good example would be Thunder Cats. I love that show so much lmao.

Again, what is a furry?

As I said earlier, I would go a bit more in depth towards the end of the chapter, so here we are.

Furries are people who are interested in animals with human characteristics. The term for this is anthro or anthropomorphic. If you aren't sure what that is, google it, the internet will give you a better explanation.

Against common belief, no, furries do not have sex with or believe they are animals. I think the word for this is bestiality? Idk lol.

Most furries have a fursona, which is a character that represents them. They either buy the character designs from others or they create it themselves.

Fursuits are pretty much costumes created to match their fursonas. Furries wear these costumes just for fun or during AnthroCon, which is a convention made especially for furries.

AnthroCon is a convention where furries meet and chat, buying merchandise from other furries, commissioning fellow artists, and showing off their fursuits. It's very similar to a ComicCon.

As I mentioned before, I've taken an interest in the furry community and have since I was young. I have many furry characters (you can view them here:https://toyhou.se/PalayeLoser/characters) along with a fursona of my own. I don't necessarily label myself as a furry, but I am highly interested in the community.

What are some examples of fursuits or furry art?

This book is meant to educate readers on furries. It isn't meant to make anyone feel as if they should like furries. You have your own opinion and I have mine, but please do not go out of your way to attack furries.

If you do not like furries/they make you uncomfortable, please do not straight up hurt or attack them. We are all human and deserve equal respect.
