Earning Their Trust (Chapter Five)

You sat up and rubbed your eyes. You yawned and stretched. You looked around the room and was surprised when you saw Funtime Freddy and Bon-Bon staring at you.

"Jesus. You scared me." You held a hand on your chest.

"Good morning, sl-sleepy head!" Freddy laughed.

You smiled, stood up, and grabbed your bag. You shushed your stomach as it growled. Stepping out of the Breaker Room, you glanced at the time on your phone: 12:32 AM.

"How was your slumber?" Ballora asked as she passed you.

"It was fine. Thank you," you said.

Freddy walked behind you in the doorway. You rubbed your tummy as it growled again.

"Um, so I was wondering when I could go get some things," you said, rubbing your arm.

"Whenever you would like. I'd need to reactivate the elevator and turn off the cameras," Baby said.

"Wait a minute, why are we okay with this? I like him and all, but how are we supposed to know whether or not he'll come back. He could tell someone about us," Foxy pointed out.

"He is going to help us. The least we could do is trust him," Baby said.

"He hasn't yet! He could easily change his mind."

"I suppose we will have to take his word for it," Ballora said as she came to a stop next to you.

"I trust him!" Freddy said.

"You'd trust a fish if it told you it could walk," Foxy sneered.

"What's that su-supposed to mean?" Freddy snapped.

"A talking fish? Shit, I'd trust it too," you pointed out, and Foxy glared at you.

"Freddy can go with him!" Bon-Bon blurted.

"How is he supposed to go with me?" you asked.

"Through his card," Baby told you.

"A card? Where is it?" you wondered.

"I'll show you, but you will have to listen carefully to my instructions."

"Okay, I will."

"There is a button under Freddy's cheek. Find it and push it."

You turned to Freddy. He took a step back against the door, his ears and face plates twitching. Once you spotted the button, you pressed it, and a keypad popped out from the side of his head.

"What now?"

"You must enter a passcode that I will say aloud."

You stood on your tiptoes and put your hand on Freddy's chest for balance. You pressed the numbers as she told you. Freddy's eyes glowed pink, and you squinted a bit at the bright light. Bon-Bon's ears shook as he laughed.

"Bon-Bon, I can't concentrate," you whispered to him.

"I'm sorry. It's just that, Freddy thinks you're awfully close to him." He giggled.

"Oh, I'm not invading your personal space, am I? Would you like me to back up some?" you asked Freddy.

"No! I m-mean, you're fi-fine," Freddy stuttered.

"You sure are!" Bon-Bon laughed.

"Bon-Bon, (Y/N) needs to focus," Ballora said.

"Yeah, Bo-Bon-Bon," Freddy grumbled, shushing him as he giggled.

You finished pressing the numbers as Baby said them aloud. A hatch in his arm popped open.

"Now, put the card into your handheld device."

You took out your phone and connected it to the bottom of it. You put in your earphones.

"You should now be able to continue to speak to Freddy," Baby said.

"Freddy?" you said.

"Hello!" Freddy said through the earphones.

"Hi. Am I able to leave now?"

"Where do you plan on going?" Baby asked.

"My hotel room, and then Walmart."

"This will be the only time you can leave, though, so do make it count."

"Wait, I can't stay the nights over at the hotel?"

"No. At least not until you help us," Baby said.

"Oh, okay. Freddy, can you still see me?"

"Yeah! If I were to shut d-down my suit, I-I could see through the cam-era and track the coor-coordinates of your device," Freddy explained.

"Well, okay then. I'll be back later, I guess."

You crawled through the vents. The doors to the elevators were still closed.

"Hey, Freddy--" you started to say.

"Baby's opening the-the doors now. She al-already turned off the cameras," Freddy said as the doors opened.

"How did you know?" you asked.

"I can still hear through my suit," he said.

You "ohed" and entered the elevator. You pressed the red button and ascended. The ride up was awkwardly silent. The doors shut behind you as you walked out.

"Do you guys ever come up here?" you asked Freddy.

"Yeah, the men usually roll us across the floo-floors and out to their vehi-vehicles," Freddy replied.

"I'm talking about when it's just you guys. At night."

"Oh-oh, no, we don't."

"Why's that? It's much bigger up here," you said, exiting the building.

"We don't want to end up running into people," Bon-Bon said.

"But- Wait, Bon-Bon? How am I able to hear you?"

"Mine and Freddy's cards are connected wirelessly. We can hear each other's thoughts!" Bon-Bon said.

"Oh, that's cool. Back to what I was saying: but, this place is out in the middle of nowhere," you said as you hopped into your car.

"Sometimes, if it isn't someone coming here for a dare, there are some people that take shelter here," Bon-Bon said.

"Oh. And the facility doesn't mind?" you asked.

"Nobody's sto-ole or broken any-thing yet," Freddy said.

"Do you think I could do that?"

"Yeah!" both Bon-Bon and Freddy said.

The building disappeared from sight as you got far enough away. There were no other cars you would have to worry about at this time of night.

"Hey, (Y/N), why is it black?" Freddy asked.

"What do you mean?"

"It's dark. I can't see anything."

"Oh, are you looking through my phone?"

"Yeah! I wanna see!" Freddy said, sounding as if he were a child on the Fourth of July.

You took your phone out of your pocket, trying to pay attention to the road. You slowed down some, figuring out where to set it. You set the back of it against the window and made sure to balance it so you could drive.

"Bon-Bon, look!" Freddy exclaimed.

"I'm looking," Bon-Bon said.

You focused on the road as Freddy "oohed" and "aahed" at the scenery. You turned on the radio: Fresh Eyes by Andy Grammer was playing. You tapped your fingers on the wheel along with the music. Bon-Bon said something to Freddy and laughed, but you couldn't hear them over the music. You reached over and turned it down.

"What was it?" you asked.

"Nothing!" Freddy blurted as Bon-Bon laughed harder.

"Freddy's just a bit flustered," Bon-Bon laughed.

"Why's that?" you asked, not taking your eyes off the road.

"Let's just say: the quality of your front camera is spotless," Bon-Bon chuckled.

"Bon-Bon!" Freddy snapped.

You didn't quite understand what he meant, as you had your mind on other things. You were entering the city, where lights from stores and signs blinded your eyes.

"Hey, Freddy--"

"Bon-Bon! St-op it!" Freddy shrieked.

"I'm not gonna say anything." He giggled. "Baby said you need to reactivate your suit so you can hear her, Foxy, and Ballora."

"Oh," Freddy mumbled.

"She also said to put (Y/N) on your speaker."

"Okay."

You pulled into the hotel parking lot. You turned off the engine and put your phone in your pocket as you got out.

You lugged your suitcase out of the elevator and towards the front desk. Freddy nor Bon-Bon had said anything since you were in the car. You set the suitcase down in front of the front desk. You waved at the man that sat at the desk.

"Hello, I'd like to check out," you said, sliding him your keycard.

"Oh, we're sad to see you go. Is there a reason you're leaving us?"

"Ummm, well." You hummed.

You thought about saying something, but you remembered what Freddy had said. They just wanted to leave, and once you helped them, you could too. Finding them bodies shouldn't be hard. You could practically hear the animatronics' mechanical hearts beat through your earphones.

"I've just found a new place, that's all."

"Well, okay then. How was your stay?" he asked as he typed something on the computer.

"It was fine."

"Alright, we've checked you out. Have a nice night," the man said, smiling at you.

You grabbed your suitcase and carried it towards the front doors. You looked back at the man, who was now frowning and looking at his phone.

You dragged your suitcase to your car and put it in the back seat. You started up your car and drove off. A few minutes into the ride, you were feeling a bit awkward.

"Hey, Freddy?"

"Yes?" he said.

"Why haven't you said anything?" you asked him.

". . . I-I just feel confused," he murmured.

"About what?"

"Well, I don't know if th-the feeling I'm hav-ing right now is true or no-t," Freddy said as Bon-Bon giggled.

"What is it you're feeling?"

". . . I-I don't really know how-how to explain it," he replied.

Oddly, the bear sounded nervous. Although you'd only really known him for a few days, he didn't seem to be someone who'd get nervous.

You pulled into Walmart and parked where you usually did. While you were there, you just got some snacks, some water, and a few other things. Afterwards, you drove back to the pizzeria.
