Bailed (Chapter Thirty)
Foxy pecked on the bars of the windowsill to a godawful attempt at "Bad to the Bone." You cringed at his endeavor, but you continued to pet Freddy. Freddy quivered as you ran your finger across his wing.
"Looks like it's your lucky day!" you heard Todd exclaim.
Freddy and the rest quickly flew out the window, as to not be seen. Bon-Bon huffed and scurried up the wall. He crawled between the bars and hung on the ledge. Todd walked around the corner, swinging his keys around his finger. He looked at you and smirked.
"What do you mean?" you wondered as you raised a brow.
"Someone gave me bail money . . . to bail you out," he said as he unlocked the cell door.
"Aren't you supposed to go through this whole process, though?" you asked.
"Look, I'm new here. Some guy gave me money, to bail you out. You want out, or not?" he gushed as he held open the cell door.
"Um, yeah." You stepped out of the cell.
"You can just . . . go on, now," he advised as he counted the stack of money.
"But, won't you get in trouble?" you worried.
"Really, only a few people have heard about the report, and as far as they know, you've already been sent off to jail in some other state. So, sooner or later, they'll just forget about the whole thing. I mean, it wasn't that big of a deal anyways. The man's got a company that makes hundreds of dollars a day. How exactly is what you did gonna affect him? Huh?" Todd babbled.
"Oh, I suppose you make a good point. Who is he?" you wondered.
"Who's who?" he asked as his eyes remained on the wad of cash.
"The man who bailed me out. What is his name?"
"The money was at the doorstep in an envelope. It had a note that said that it was money to get you out. So, I never even met him."
"But, then- . . . Whatever. Well, bye, then." You sighed as you walked towards the front doors.
"Bye," Todd mumbled as he continued to count his money.
You opened the doors, then squinted as the sunset reflected off of your eyes. You looked around at the bustling of the city, the cool breeze making you shiver. Something fell onto your head and you froze. The fluttering of wings caught your attention above you. A bird flew onto your shoulder, and now looking at it, you saw that it was just Freddy. You could barely see Bon-Bon's ears above you.
"Hello," Freddy whispered into your ear.
Ballora landed on your other shoulder and sat down. Foxy and Baby were flying by your sides, twisting around as they competed for who could do the coolest tricks. You grinned as you walked down the sidewalk. You didn't know for sure what you were gonna do. You had nothing, and although Freddy, Foxy, Baby, and Ballora, were with you, you felt alone.
"Go into that alley," Baby said as she and Foxy flew over.
"Why?" you asked, although following them anyways.
"So we can change back into humans," Baby stated as she did so.
Foxy did as Baby and tugged at his bowtie. Ballora and Freddy flew off of your shoulders and morphed as they stopped. Freddy looked at you and grinned goofily. Ballora brushed herself off and looked at you. You started back towards the sidewalk, continuing to shuffle along. Freddy caught up with you and walked by your side. He looked at his feet when you looked over at him. His eyes widened and he looked up.
"Why would you sell yourself out like that?" Freddy hissed as he looked over at you.
"Calm down, buttercup. My plan was to go to jail, and then escape at some point. Besides, if all else failed, I'd get free food, a roof over my head, and health care," you told him as you stopped at a crosswalk.
"Buttercup?" Freddy squeaked.
"Did you hear anything I said after that?" you sassed.
"You called me buttercup," Freddy sighed dreamily as he stared longingly at you.
You rolled your eyes and groaned as you started walking across the street. Freddy followed close behind as he kept his dreamy eyes locked on to you. You looked into the windows of the shops as you passed them. When you came to a library, you stopped and walked closer to the window. Freddy stopped and followed you with his eyes. You looked back at him and the rest and gestured into the library. Everyone followed you as you walked in. The smell of books engulfed you and you sighed.
"What are we doing here?" Foxy asked.
"Shhh. This is a library. You have to be quiet," you whispered.
"Well, what are we doing here?" he hissed.
"Nothing, I just wanna look around," you told him.
Foxy groaned quietly, and you started to walk towards one of the bookshelves. You scanned through the spines, looking for something to pique your interest. You looked back, and everyone was standing behind you.
"You know, you guys can look around, right?" you said.
"This place is just filled with a bunch of paper," Foxy complained quietly.
"It is not just a bunch of paper. It's what's on the paper, inside the books. You can get so engulfed in the words that it feels as if you were living in a-whole-nother world," you gushed.
"Pfft, I'm going to sit down," Foxy scoffed as he turned around.
"I'll go with Foxy," Bon-Bon added as he jumped from Freddy's hand.
"Bon-Bon, you can't be seen," Freddy worried.
"I'll be fine," Bon-Bon whispered back.
"That sounds interesting," Ballora pointed out.
"It sounds boring," Baby complained.
"It is interesting. Ballora, you could probably find a bunch of books on dancing," you chatted.
"Where are they?" Ballora wondered, excitement bubbling in her chest.
"Go ask the woman at the desk. She'll know," you told her.
"I'm just gonna follow Ballora," Baby said as she followed her to the front desk.
"Freddy, what kinds of books do you want to read?" you asked.
"I-I think I'm just gonna follow you," Freddy said sheepishly.
You turned around and continued to look through the shelves. When you got to the end, you turned the corner and walked through a doorway, into a different part of the library. You looked around. All the books were non-fiction, as a sign above you said so.
You walked down an aisle and searched through the books. You abruptly stopped when you saw something that interested you. Freddy stopped close behind you and froze as your hair touched the tip of his nose. You quivered as his warm breath caressed the back of your neck.
"Why are you so close to me?" you whispered, not moving from your spot.
"I-I don't know," Freddy replied.
"Well- . . . Why aren't you moving?"
"Why aren't you?"
"I-I- . . . I don't know," you confessed.
Freddy gulped and goosebumps engulfed your body as his breathing picked up. You felt Freddy's hands slide around your waist and to your lower stomach.
"What are you doing?" you squeaked as Freddy pulled you closer to him; his hands sprawled out as he hugged you tightly.
"I-I don't know, i-it just feels right," Freddy admitted as he laid his head on your shoulder.
Your eyes remained wide and your breathing became shaky. Freddy kissed your neck and you twitched. He smiled into your shoulder as he held back a squeal. His face reached a degree that no man could withstand. You reached over and grabbed the book that you saw. You read the back and flipped through the pages, to the first chapter.
Freddy stuffed his face into your neck and you smiled. Freddy's breathing into your ear overtook the silence of the library. He swayed his hips side to side and yours went along. You didn't know how, but you could feel his heart thudding in your back. You slammed your book shut and groaned quietly as you put it back on the shelf. Freddy opened his eyes and stood back; his hands slid away from you. You turned towards him, to see him fiddling his thumbs as he looked down at his feet, which were trailing around in circles.
"Is there something you want to say?" you asked him stubbornly.
"I-I'm sorry," Freddy whispered.
"No--"
You sighed and walked up to Freddy. You lifted his chin to look at you and you dropped your hands at your sides. His eyes became glossy as he stared into yours.
"Freddy, look . . . Do you remember that time when we were at the pizzeria and we played that game of truth or dare?"
"Yeah."
"Well, you remember how Bon-Bon stayed with me as I went up in the elevator?"
"Y-yes," Freddy stuttered.
"I wasn't supposed to tell you this, but, Bon-Bon told me something," you said as you fiddled with your shirt sleeves.
"Wh-what was that?" Freddy worried.
"He told me that you loved me. He told me, because he knew you wouldn't. I've been waiting for you to say something, but you haven't. So, I will. Freddy, I love you too, and I want us to be in a relationship," you admitted.
Freddy's eyes widened and he froze as he stared at you. He opened his mouth to say something, but all that came out was a small squeal. You giggled as you grabbed his hands. Freddy looked down, then back up at you. You smiled, and Freddy tried to avoid your eyes, as he knew he would melt.
"There you guys are. When are we- . . . Um," Foxy started.
"Hello, Foxy." You looked past Freddy and at him.
"Did I interrupt something?" he snickered as Bon-Bon laughed maniacally.
You dropped Freddy's hands and walked past him. Freddy let out a small whine as he looked at you longingly. You pushed Foxy away by the face and he stumbled back. Foxy growled as he glared at you. Ballora and Baby walked through the archway as you got there.
"Time to leave," you said.
"That's exactly why we came for you guys. The place is closing," Baby informed you.

You leaned against the wall, trying to ignore the putrid smell that the dumpster emitted. Your eyes had adjusted to the darkness of the alley, but--honestly--there was nothing to see but a bunch of trash. You pecked on the cardboard that someone had left there. You had to hide behind the dumpster, in the alleyway--not because there was a real threat, but because your mind made you anxious.
"Are we seriously staying here? It smells awful," Foxy griped.
"Where else are we to go?" you sassed.
"I don't know. Anywhere but here," Foxy sassed back.
You stood up and grabbed the cardboard. You dropped it when you saw a bunch of cockroaches crawl out from beneath it. You sighed and walked down the sidewalk. As you walked farther down the sidewalk, the woods crept into view. Although in the night it seemed creepy, you were drawn to it.
"Why are we going into the woods?" Ballora asked.
"We can stay here and not be seen," you stated.
"Seriously?" Foxy groaned.
"Think of it as camping," you told him as you walked past a few trees.
"What is that?" Baby wondered as she pointed somewhere.
". . . Oh, that's a hammock. There are three, actually. Luckily, they have tarp hanging over them. We'll sleep here for tonight," you announced.
"I'm sleeping alone," Foxy said as he ran up to one.
He attempted to jump into it, but it flipped him over and he landed on his back. You snickered as you looked around. There was a hammock to your left, to your right, and one straight in front of you. There seemed to be an old firepit in the middle, along with three logs set around it for seats.
"How do you get into these things?" Foxy growled.
"Just, be careful," you said.
Foxy carefully grabbed the side of the hammock and sat down in it. He leaned back and quickly pulled his legs up. Once he got in and balanced, he smirked and closed his eyes.
"Got it," Foxy bragged.
"Ballora, help me up," Baby said as she tried to climb on to the hammock.
Ballora lifted Baby up by under her arms and Baby stepped into the hammock. As Ballora lowered her, she slowly started to sit down. Ballora let her go as she lay down and she stepped back. Baby patted the spot beside her and Ballora smiled gently. She sat on the hammock and lay down. Baby giggled and crawled onto Ballora, cuddling up to her and closing her eyes. Ballora chuckled and wrapped her arms around her.
"Guess we get one together," you stated.
"Y-yeah, I guess so. Um, how do I get in?" Freddy said.
"Here," you said as you turned to Freddy, who was beside you.
You put one of your arms behind his knees and the other around his back. You lifted him up and he squeaked. He wrapped his arms around your neck as he balled up tighter. Bon-Bon gripped on to the back of your ankle, taking advantage of the chance at a free ride.
You giggled as you walked up to the hammock in front of you. Freddy blushed brightly as you laid him into it. Bon-Bon quickly crawled up your leg and to the top of the hammock. You grinned as you lifted up your leg. You lay on top of Freddy as you stepped up into it. Freddy blushed brighter as you sat up. He looked up at you as you sat on his lower stomach and scooted back some. You lay back and curled up your legs.
"Goodnight, everyone," Ballora stated.
Foxy remained quiet, and Baby was already asleep. You closed your eyes as the hammock swayed slightly to Freddy's heavy breathing.
