BRANDON JONES

She chuckled adorably and said, "Oh right, your sister's wedding. I forgot to bring the dress I was supposed to wear to her wedding!"
"I'm sure you can find something in Piazza delle Erbe."
"In Piazza Dell- I've no clue."
"First time in Verona, Barbara?"
"It is, actually," she replied with a smile.
He was about to say something but the cashier interrupted him asking him to pay fast. He quickly payed and rolled his eyes as he handed over the drink to Barbara, before thanking the cashier.
"Thank you for this," Barbara thanked him politely.
He looked at her acting like he was surprised beyond his wits.
"I spilled your drink, and you're still giving me a 'thank you'," he said.
She laughed and he joined in, after which he turned to face her, a little serious.
"I was about to suggest something before the cashier interrupted, maybe I could show you some real bits of Verona. I've been here before and you might actually like it," he asked her, a little uncomfortable.
An equally uncomfortable Barb looked at him and replied, "If truth be told, I'd love to, it's just that we've met only once," she waited for a moment before adding, "Twice if you count today."
"I completely understand. I- should get going," he replied with his cheeks turning a slight shade of embarrassment.
"See you at the wedding," Barbara said as she walked away, on the opposite side of the road.
He hadn't even walked ten steps when he heard Barbara calling out his name, "Brandon, wait up!"
.
.
"So, what's the plan?" She asked as they walked together to wherever the roads led.
"No plan, that's the plan," he replied.
"What?" She asked sounding unsure.
"You sure worry a lot, don't you? Well, let's take you shopping first. That's the only plan for now."
"Great," she said.
"Won't your sister be joining you to the wedding?"
"Sam? Oh no. She's busy with her job and I had already planned a vacation here. And that's why I'll be attending the wedding."
He held open the door of a store for her as they entered. Barbara looked through the dresses as he continued the conversation that was left hanging.
"For how long exactly are you going to be here?" He asked her as she picked up a peach off shoulder dress and he shook his head.
"A week and I'm off," she replied choosing another dress.
"That one would look good on you. Well, you've a lot many places to visit in Verona. You'll totally love it here."
"Yeah, I was thinking I would ask for a guide who'd show me around. And when will you be leaving?"
"That's cool. I'll be leaving in about ten days, I've some work to attend to here after the wedding."
She picked up three dresses and headed to the trial room, while continuing, "Work? Here?"
"I am a photographer, Barbara," he said laughing.
Barbara walked out of the trial room, a little disappointed.
"They don't fit," she said.
"We've other stores."
"Yeah but do you really have that much time? It's your sister-"
"I do. Let's go to the next store."
.
It was more than a long day for them, and just when they'd completely given up on the idea of looking for a dress, she found the perfect dress that she had been looking for. She ran her fingertips through the lace borders of the crimson red dress that she had just found.
Turning to Brandon, she said, "I am buying this."
.
"We did get to know each other very well today," Bran said, offering her a little smile.
Barb returned the smile, "Thank you for helping me. I had a great time."
"Me too. Would you fancy a drink? It's Italy, you can always count on the wine."
"Do you always ask people out for a drink?" She laughed, "I'd love to try some great wine, though."
.
.
"How do you like the wine?" Bran asked Barb.
"It's amazing, as promised," she replied, taking in the smell of the wine, "You were telling me earlier that you've some project here in Verona. What is it about?"
"Project? Oh, wait. No. It's not a project. Sometimes, when I travel, I click photographs which are entirely for myself. I refrain from showing them to others, I think they're too personal to be judged by a large crowd. These photographs just makes me ecstatic."
She smiled as he said that, taking a gulp of her wine.
"What about you? Your sister told me you write really well."
"Oh, you remember?"
"It's hardly been two days!"
"I haven't been writing these days."
"Why not?"
She shrugged looking at the stars.
"Would you like to accompany me to the rehearsal dinner tomorrow night?" He asked, breaking the cold silence.
"I don't know, isn't it supposed to be a family thing?"
"Mum would love having you there," Bran reassured.
"Great then."
"I'll pick you up at seven."
