Fun with Experiments
A collection of experiments by NellyHannah
Hey! Your kids are home and you don't know how to occupy their time? Well, how about you do some educating experiments with them? (If your kids are older, most of these experiments can be done without an adult's help).
🎈🎈🎈
1 The moving water jet
You need:
A balloon
A basin
Something fleecy (you could also use your hair instead)
Step 1:
Quickly rub the balloon against something fleecy (e.g. your bathroom carpet or your favourite pullover) or your hair for about 20 - 30 seconds.
Step 2:
Turn on your water-tap (just a little bit!) and put the balloon next to it (about 1 - 2 inches apart). Now slowly move the balloon away from the water jet. You'll observe that the jet follows the balloon.
→ Why does this happen ?
If your kid is younger, you can tell them that because of the rubbing the balloon works like a magnet now. If your kid is older, tell them that all the negative ions are on one side now and because of that the positive ions in the water follow the balloon.

2 The tea bag rocket
Always do this on the outside (e.g. in your garden or on your balcony) and never let the kids do it unsupervised!
You need:
A tea bag
Matches, a cigarette lighter or something similar
A plate
Step one:
Cut off the tea bag's top and remove the tea. Then form a cylinder out of the empty tea bag and place it upright on the plate.
Step two:
Go outside.
Step three:
Light the top of your tea bag and watch it burn down and then suddenly fly up into the air. Remember to catch the rocket's remains with your plate again.

3 Balloon Zipline
You need:
A string, cord, or wire or a thick thread (length: at least 7 feet—the longer the more fun)
A balloon
Sticky tape
A straw
A hair clip, clothes peg or something similar tonclose the balloon
Some free space
Step one:
Tie one end of your cord to e.g a doorknob. File the cord through the straw and then tie the other end to something at the other side of the room (the longer, the better!).
Step two:
Blow up the balloon. Close it with your clip.
Step three:
Tape the balloon with a piece of sticky tape to the straw (with the the opening parallel to the string and straw).
Step four:
Remove the clip and watch the balloon fly along the string across the room.
It's even more fun if you can send it from the living room through the hallway into the kitchen... given the doors are in the right place in your house!
