Chapter 6

Olympia dug her fingers into Otis's arm and squealed. "THE Agent Otto just said he needed OUR help?!? This is the best day of my life, pinch me!"
"What exactly is it that you need help with?" Otis asked.
"Well, something very normal has happened," Ms. O replied.
"Something...normal?" Oona asked, one eyebrow raised.
"Yep, it happens every few years. Two agents start going out, someone transfers or quits or something, they break up. It's bound to happen when two people work together for a long time. Normally we wouldn't even get involved—" at this, Ms. O seemed to cringe "—but it's affecting their work and these are a couple of very important agents."
"Not to mention friends," Otto added, circling around to join Ms. O behind her desk. "Which is why we need your help getting them back together. So, are you three up for the challenge?"
Otis sat up. "Just one question, which two agents are we helping get back together?"
Olympia and Oona turned towards him with nearly identical expressions of incredulity and started talking at the same time.
"Obviously Olive and..."
"Otto!"
"Oscar!"
The girls glared at each other. Somewhere in the distance, "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" theme began to play. Otis scrambled to the safety of Ms. O's desk. "Oh dear, we're in for it now."
Otto looked confusedly between Otis and Ms. O. "In for what?"
"I warned you that this would happen if we got both of them involved," Ms. O sighed.
"What would happen? WHAT'S HAPPENING?"
Oona stood, feet apart, hand ready to reach behind her back for her weapon of choice. "Olympia, if it's Otto, then why would he be here?"
Olympia matched her stance. "Obviously, Oona, because he's too bashful to ask her to be his girlfriend again without our help."
"Girlfriend? What?" Otto asked.
"No way, look at his body language," Oona retorted, pulling Otto from his refuge behind the desk. "See? If he was here asking for help for himself because he was too nervous would he not look nervous right now?"
Otto looked desperately at Ms. O.
"He does look nervous right now," Olympia stated pointedly.
"Of course he does, I just dragged him into a WAR ZONE!" Oona let go of his arm and pulled her projector from behind her back, letting out a battle cry. Olympia produced her binder and yelled over Oona.
Otto scurried behind the desk-bunker, peeking just his eyes over the surface. "Ms. O, I'm scared."
Otis sat in Ms. O's chair and put his right ankle on his left knee. "I've found it's best to just let them get it out of their system."
"Get WHAT out of their system? WHAT IS HAPPENING?" Otto screamed.
"Oona, I'm telling you, there is no way Olive and Oscar were ever together! Note her visible annoyance in case file 'Not so Splash' when Oscar had done nothing more than call her."
"That was before they got together! By my calculations, they started going out sometime in August of that year."
"That's impossible, because according to MY calculations, Olive and Otto started going out—"
"WHAT?!?" Finally, Olympia's words had clicked for Otto.
The shriek snapped the girls out of their trance.
"What do you mean, 'we started going out'?!?" Otto cried in horror.
"Y-you know, you, uh, became boyfriend and girlfriend...?" Olympia stammered, trailing off as she saw the look of disgust on his face.
"Me and OLIVE? NO! Ew, no! Goodness, she's like my SISTER! Eugh! No, this is about Olive and Oscar."
"Olive and OSCAR?!?!? No way! You two are perfect for each oth—hey, Otis, let go of me!"
"We need to talk. Please give us a moment, Ms. O." Otis ushered his partner outside the office, turned her around, and held her shoulders firmly. "Olympia, listen to me. You have to calm down."
"Why!? This is wrong, Otis!"
"No, it's not! I'm not an expert in feelings, but you heard Otto and Ms. O. They know Olive and Oscar better than any of us. You've got to stop now."
Olympia crossed her arms. "But Olive and Otto have to be together. They just have to!"
Oona's head appeared outside the door. "Heh, howdy-do, guys."
"Did you come to gloat?" Olympia snapped angrily, tears welling up in her eyes.
"What? No! What am I, crazy?"
Olympia opened her mouth to say something, but decided against it and bit her lip.
"I, um, actually came to say I'm sorry. You've lost something that's important to you, and I know that must be hard," Oona continued.
Olympia bit her lip harder, a tear spilling over her cheek. "Why do you even care? You have your ship, you're going to help get them together again for crying out loud!"
"Because you're our friend," Otis answered.
"And in case you haven't noticed, neither of us exactly have the social skills necessary to go and make new friends without help," Oona added.
Olympia couldn't help but crack a small smile.
"I know you don't like this, partner, but we're really going to need your help."
"You're the expert on all things Olive, after all."
Olympia's face twisted into an expression of conflict. "I don't like this, guys. How am I supposed to help with something I don't support?'
Oona thought for a moment before replying. "Listen, Olympia, I understand that you don't like this pairing. I'm sure that if it were up to you, you wouldn't make it this way. The thing is, though, this isn't just some fanfiction that you can change without hurting anyone. These are real people with real feelings. These are our friends. Would you rather Olive be happy or be with the person you want her to be with?"
Olympia shook her head. "Why do you have to be so logical? Listen, I might agree to help, but I want to hear the FULL story first."
"That sounds like a reasonable request," Otis agreed. "Let's go, before Ms. O sends a search party after us."
The trio walked back to their seats.
"Ms. O, Otto, I have one request before I agree to help with anything. I'd like to hear the full story, from the beginning," Olympia spoke up, crossing her legs and arms.
Otto looked at Ms. O, who nodded. He sat on the edge of her desk. "Well, it all started—for me, at least—the day OscarBot 10 broke my badge..."
