Chapter 2: An Unwelcome Guest
Jasmine was making those noises again. She was my real alarm clock.
"Jesus Christo, I'm up!" I put food in her cage then got dressed.
After a quick bowl of Corn Flakes I waved goodbye to my parents and got on the bus. I have to take the bus in the morning only because of my parent's jobs. My dad is a pharmacist and my mom is a manager at a local bakery, but she only works in the morning. Sometimes she brings home pastries and other treats for us.
I put in my headphones and closed my eyes. It took a tap on the shoulder to make me realize my friend Hannah was in the seat with me.
"Yo."
"Sup. Hey, listen to th-"
"I bet you're listening to Taylor Swift." A sandy-haired boy stated as he popped up from the seat behind us.
Hannah was pissed. "Colin, you really need to fu-"
Before she could finished, I removed my headphones from the jack. Stairway to Heaven began blasting out of my phone's speakers. It was the part near the end where it's super intense, too. The entire bus fell silent. Led Zeppelin closed up the song. I smiled at Colin and turned around.
It was quiet for a while. I heard murmurs from the seniors.
"Get rekt."
"What a savage."
Hannah high-fived me and we listened to more rock songs.
At school, I didn't even bother trying to get to my locker. I went straight to homeroom and sat down.
"Hey." Charlotte said as she walked in.
"Hi."
A faint whirring was heard, but everyone ignored it.
"Um, Corrine?," Dalton asked nervously from across the room. "Why do you like blue so much?"
"Indigo. And when my parents found me on their doorstep fifteen years ago, I was wrapped up in an indigo colored blanket. I still have that blanket."
"Oh."
"Wait, wait," Lucas commented, "so does this mean you still have your blankie?"
"If you only had a pearl necklace, baby outfit, umbrella tag, and blanket left with you by your biological parents who you've never even met, wouldn't you treasure all of them?" I pulled out the pearl necklace out from under my shirt.
It was quiet for a few seconds. Someone coughed awkwardly. Lucas shifted.
"Whatever, blue-woman." He scoffed.
"Indigo."
"That's not even a real color."
"It's in the rainbow!"
"Bull!"
"Roy G. Biv!"
"They only added that because his last name needed a vowel!"
I was about to retort when I was interrupted by the intercom.
"Corrine Hollowfield to the main office, please. Corrine Hollowfield to the main office."
I glared at him and left.
I probably left something on the bus. I walked into the office and was greeted by the last thing I expected.
Twelve little guards in two straight lines were right in front of the door.
"Princess Corrine has arrived." They all chanted monotonously and bowed.
I looked around the office. The ladies looked at the scene curiously.
"Is this a joke?"
As soon as I finished speaking, a man exited the principal's office. The soldiers parted like the Red Sea and turned inwards, facing the man walking through. He stopped and bowed. "Princess Corrine, I am pleasured to meet you. My name is General Leon and I will be accompanying and informing you about Olympia."
"Who the hell is Olympia?"
"Not who the hell, what the hell. Olympia is a small island off the coast of England, and you are its princess."
I looked around. The office ladies were very intrigued.
"I know this is coming as a shock, and you want answers. But now is not the time to be discussing this. Don't worry, my main purpose is to help you understand this."
"Uh...okay?"
"Before coming, we've cleared up everything to come and get you from this...low-budget academy-"
"Public school."
"Whatever. It is necessary you gather your belongings and report back here at this time."
In the hallway, the whole encounter really started to sink into my brain. I was a princess. Like what. At least Princess Corrine has a nice ring to it.
"What happened?" Charlotte questioned.
"I need to go to a dentist appointment."
Lucas scoffed. "What was the point of even coming to school if y-"
"Can it, boy toy." I left.
General Leon nodded when I returned. "Miss, we will now exit the premises."
"Uh, okay."
We walked outside of the building with the guards marching behind us. The whirring got increasingly louder as we advanced.
As we exited the building, I realized the whirring was a helicopter.
There was a helicopter in the school parking lot.
