Chapter 1: Stars

"Corrine! Wait up!"

I stopped and turned around, waiting for the dark-haired girl. "Hey, Tasha."

"Did you hear about the 5 Seconds of Summer tour? They MIGHT be coming to Minneapolis! Ugh, I literally can't wait!"

"Are you sure your parents will let you go? It's a three hour drive."

"They have to let me, otherwise I would literally die."

"Hey Corrine! How was your weekend?" Kelly asked as she approached us.

"Too short."

She laughed a laugh that was a little too forced. "You are hilarious!"

"Um-"

"Corrine! Do you want me to hold your binder? I'll carry it to your homeroom!" Some blonde I didn't even recognize spoke up.

I glanced down at the indigo binder in my arms and back up as the mob of girls was slowly multiplying. "I-"

"Your hair looks great today! What kind of shampoo do you use?" A voice shouted, complementing my shiny auburn curls.

"Corri! Your outfit is on point!" I shuddered at the nickname.

"Marry me!" I heard a boy shout.

"Okay, that's enough." I whispered to myself as I power-walked into the girl's bathroom.

"We'll come with you! Girl code!"

I locked myself in a stall and refused to speak. After a few minutes, everyone slowly began to exit.

I sighed. Why does beauty have to be such a chore?

The sudden burst of vanity surprised me. I unlocked the door and walked out of the stall. Staring at myself in the mirror, I swore as I realized my lipstick was smeared. I carefully reapplied it.

Beep-beep-beep-beep-beep-beep-beep-beep-beep-beep-beep-beep-beep!

Crap, that was the warning bell! If I wasn't in homeroom in a minute, my perfect record would be ruined! I scooped up my binder and raced out of the bathroom and down the stairs.

The bell rang right before I stepped into the classroom. Mrs. Raymond looked up from her computer to me, only moving her eyes. "Miss Hollowfield, do you understand you've walked in after the bell?"

I slowly nodded. "I'm sorry, ma'am, it won't happen again."

She smiled. "That's alright, dear. Since you were so polite I won't count this as a tardy."

I sighed in relief as I went to sit down. "Thank you."

Lucas put up his hands. "Oh, come on! If that was me I wouldn't have been let off the hook!"

"Because you're irresponsible and rude, young man! Now no more talking in my classroom!"

Charlotte, one of the only girls I could trust, whispered from the seat next to mine. "Did you hear about the 5 Sec-"

"Yes."

"Oh. So how's Jasmine?" She inquired about my chinchilla.

"She's gotten better."

We continued making small talk until the bell rang and everyone left for first hour.

After 55 minutes of my science teacher droning about plant cells, I advanced to English, where we had to begin our essays on Shakespeare.

After that, I had a substitute in Math named Mrs. Agatha. She totally butchered my name.

"Co-reene."

"Curr-inn." I corrected.

Some kid whispered "Swagatha" and everyone laughed.

Next was History, where I aced a pop quiz.

I ate lunch and went to gym. Then I had Gifted, which you need a good IQ to enter for some reason. In Theatre we got into our tragedy scenes and the day was over.

My mom was waiting patiently in the car as I climbed in the passenger seat. "How was school today, honey?"

"Pretty good."

"Your father wants to have pizza for dinner, are you okay with that?"

"Yeah, I guess."

"Alright."

When I got home, I did my math and science homework and finished right before dinner. After that I went to the park with my other friend Bonnie.

As soon as I returned, I went to my room and sat on my window couch. I waited until the sun had fully set and the stars came out.

"Everyone always talks about how they want to be popular, but no one knows how boring it is. I just want a little excitement. Is that too selfish?" I sighed and got ready for bed.

I had no idea what was in store.

A/N: Ugh, sorry this was such a boring chapter. Things actually happen in the next one, I swear. I guess it was supposed to be a yawnfest to show how Corrine feels, but now even I'm bored.
