I Can't Do This...
Ever since Lukas had joined Divinus Magia, he never felt like he had a place in the guild. Sure, Brandon and Ritchie had let him in, they even made him S-class, but he still felt unwanted.
Maybe it was the harsh glares that Mario and David sent him.
Maybe it was the fact that Inmo wasn't willing to even speak to him.
Maybe it was how Kit squeaked in fear whenever he approached her.
Maybe it was how Ritchie always sent him distrustful looks.
The only ones who didn't treat him differently were Brandon and Tapio. And while he was very grateful that they didn't (as well as confused), it didn't make up for how much the other guild members seemed to hate him. Especially after they began to pick on him, well Mario and David began to.
After a bit of time in the guild, he found himself tripping over raised pieces of earth, his drinks frozen, sand in some of his meals. Sometimes he would get an icicle or a rock thrown at him but they'd always say that it was by accident or reflex. It wasn't.
It was worse considering he actually had to live with David. He started getting less and less sleep because he had to keep an eye out in case the ice devil slayer tried to freeze his sheets or throw an icicle at him. He had bags under his eyes and while Tapio and Brandon had both expressed their concerns on it (and had promptly been told that he was fine), no one else even thought to ask.
He began having to restrain the goddess inside him who wanted to put these mortals in their place. He couldn't let her do that. Despite feeling unwanted, he still loved this guild, he cared about them and so he couldn't afford going back to jail. He couldn't.
But this all had to come to head one day.
He was exhausted from yet another sleepless night but Ritchie and Brandon had put together another training session for the guild. And so he stood with the others in the training area as Ritchie and Brandon explained what they would be doing.
Every once in awhile when Brandon and Ritchie weren't looking, David who was closest to him would sneakily shoot an icicle at him. While it wouldn't normally be too bad, he was already exhausted and he was trying to focus, so finally he snapped.
"Will you please stop it!" Everyone turned to him when he snapped at David.
"Boat, is there something you would like to share?" Ritchie asked, raising an eyebrow at him even as David snickered and sent him a look that said everything.
Without a word, he ran. He didn't care that Ritchie was yelling after him, he didn't care about the stares coming from the rest of the guild, he didn't care. He couldn't do this anymore.
He had no idea how long he had ran or where he had run to, nor did he care. He only stopped when he could run no further and it was there that he stopped and began to cry. Was this really his life now? He made one mistake, not even realizing that he was making one, and as a result, he had to suffer this daily... abuse was the best word. He couldn't take it anymore, he'd rather be in prison. At least there he might get a good night's sleep for once.
Suddenly, even as he cried, he felt two pairs of arms go around him. He stiffened before he realized who it was. Brandon and Tapio. The only two people in the guild who treated him like he was just another guildmate.
Well actually, Tapio was possibly his best friend in the guild altogether as the cat-person was always willing to talk with him even if he was encouraged to spend time with their other guildmates. And then Brandon, well, he didn't actually know why the guild leader treated him like he did. He was very friendly and open and sometimes Lukas' caught him staring at him, but he couldn't figure out as to why.
Seeing that it was these two who had wrapped their arms around him, Lukas felt himself start to cry harder, to really start to let out all the pain he had felt since joining the guild. The two just held him as he cried, only speaking once the tears had started to slow.
"What's the matter, Boat?" Tapio asked gently.
He started to respond but then shook his head, not willing to state the reason why he had run off to cry. Then he felt Brandon lift his chin so that he would look him straight in the eye. "Boat, what's wrong? You can be honest here, it's just you, me, and Tapio."
Looking away, tears started to gather in his eyes as he admitted. "I just... feel like nobody wants me here besides you two."
"What?" Tapio asked in surprise even as Brandon's eyes widened in shock.
"Kit always gets scared of me, Inmo won't even talk to me, heck Ritchie hasn't trusted me since I got revealed as a godslayer, and Mario and David..." He shook his head trailing off.
"What have they done?" Brandon asked, his voice containing a hint of anger.
"I..." He gulped seeing the look Brandon sent him before finally admitting it. "They constantly push me around, make snide comments, send little bits of magic at me, and David sometimes freezes my blankets at night..."
Both Brandon and Tapio had stiffened when he admitted that. Anger shone in both of their eyes even as storm clouds started to gather above them. The two looked at each other and after a moment, they nodded. Brandon flew up with the angry look still on his face while Tapio started pulling Lukas along after a moment.
While Lukas was a little bit reluctant, he knew that neither Tapio or Brandon would purposely lead him astray so he let himself be pulled along by the cat even as Brandon disappeared from sight.
A bit later, Lukas and Tapio reached the training grounds to see a sight that Lukas didn't expect. Brandon was talking quietly with his brother, who had a properly chastised look on his face, while the rest of the guild looked terrified of the white-haired guild leader.
No one noticed Lukas or Tapio until the little cat-person cleared his throat, causing all eyes to dart to the two of them. There was silence for a moment before Brandon walked up to Boat and quietly explained that he would arrange new living accommodations for him (he tried to object but Brandon quickly shut him down) before adding that he shouldn't have any problems anymore but that was just in case.
Periodically throughout the day, each of his guildmates came and apologized for the way they had treated him, including Ritchie which he almost couldn't believe. And from there, things got a lot better for him in the guild. Without the constant bullying and distrust, he found himself truly enjoying being part of Divinus Magia.
Course, Tapio and Brandon were still keeping a protective eye on him, though he did find out why the white-haired guild leader acted so friendly towards him thanks to Tapio. Turns out the devil slayer had had a crush on him, who knew?
