Mario had observed the fight between Michael and his boyfriend and he had seen his boyfriend get absolutely furious, furious enough to do a full transformation with his demon slaying magic, but he hadn't quite understood what he had almost done until he was asking his guild leaders about Daveed's recovery.

What they told him, shocked him to his core. Was his boyfriend a complete idiot? He rushed into the infirmary not too long after, seeing Daveed laying on the bed, still recovering from his fight but still awake. His eyes lit up when he saw Mario. "Hey Ma-"

He was cut off as Mario slapped him before pulling him into a kiss. When Mario pulled away, Daveed could only stare at his boyfriend in absolute confusion.

"You idiot." Mario said with a glare even as real tears gathered in his eyes, causing Daveed to stare at his boyfriend in surprise. "Do you realize what you almost did? Huh do you?"

"Well it wasn't the smarte-"

"Not the smartest? You could've killed yourself! You would've killed yourself if Michael hadn't stopped you!" Mario cut in with a glare.

"Look, I'm sorry-"

"You almost died! I almost lost you!" Mario yelled before pulling Daveed into a hug, ignoring the ice demon slayer's slight wince at his injuries being jostled.

"I'm sorry." Daveed said wrapping his arms around him. "Its just... he said some things that were... not ok, it dealt some very low blows, and I'll admit, when I was getting ready to cast that spell... it was because he brought up my mother..."

Mario pulled back so that he could look at Daveed's face and see the tears that were gathering in the ice mage's eyes.

He and Daveed hadn't really talked about their pasts. They knew that there wasn't the happiest story, to either of them really, but neither of them knew the details. But looking at Daveed, Mario realized that they needed to talk about it. If bringing up his mother could cause an extreme reaction like that, then it was something they'd need to talk about as a couple.

"... Can you tell me about her?" Mario asked gently, and after a moment of surprise, Daveed realized why he had asked and started telling him his tale.
