Nightmares

Quick AN: I couldn't remember the name of Mario's Dragon, but I know he mentioned it so if anyone knows who exactly that is, please tell me.

Mario woke up in a cold sweat. Another dream. Another nightmare really. He shook his head as he cleared it from his head. He couldn't think of that. He couldn't. He sighed as he knew he wouldn't get back to sleep and thus got up and decided to take a walk through the gardens.

The gardens were a very peaceful place he noted as he walked through the carefully trimmed hedges. Daveed may get on his nerves but he certainly knew how to take care of a garden. He was going to just walk through it when suddenly he heard someone sobbing. It may have been soft to anyone else who happened by but he was a dragon slayer and thus could hear it fine.

Going around the fountain, on the other side he was met with a crying Kay who was just sobbing on her hands and knees. He knew he couldn't leave her there and while he wasn't the best at comforting people, he decided to try his best.

"Kid?" He asked and her head snapped up. She tried to rub her tears away but she wasn't very successful. "Kid, what's wrong?"

Kay sniffed and leaned against the fountain. "I-I wanna go back home..."

He decided to sit down beside her as she started to speak more. "This place isn't bad but I was just getting used to living near The Protectors Guild, and now we had to move out here and I keep thinking what if we get attacked, what if we get killed, or what if all this training just shows that I'm not good enough to being in the guild."

Mario was silent at the beginning but towards the end, he decided to ask. "You had a nightmare didn't you?"

She nodded miserably. "They kicked me out, abandoned me, just like my first and second family did..."

Mario sighed before saying. "Believe it or not, kid, I know whats its like and I can agree that its not fun."

She looked at him curiously even as tears continued to go down her cheeks. Mario sighed once more before saying. "My master, teacher if you will, taught me the ways of dragon slaying magic for a long time before one day, one day she just disappeared. I've never seen her since and I remember feeling alone for a very long time until I finally came to the guild."

When she went to say something, he held up his hand and said. "My guild is my family, as yours is becoming yours. They won't abandon you, ever, unless you've killed one of them. I understand this place isn't your home, but honestly, eventually your guild will become your home, in more ways than one."

Kay was silent for a moment before she nodded. After a moment of silence, she asked. "So what brings you out here?"

"Lets just say, nightmares spare no one." She shut up after that but gave him a brief hug that he didn't object to.
