Chapter 1

Just imagine my shock when my hands are met with a wall of ice as I try to come back above the water.

It felt as if I were under the water forever. I was sinking into darkness while the pressure of the water crushed on my body more and more. I wanted to stay there. I wanted to sleep. But I pushed against the water with every bit of strength in my body. The water was cold; colder than it was when I jumped in. And when I saw the surface light and pushed my hands up to reach it I was met with a wall of ice. I slammed on it for a minute before it broke.

I gripped the edge of the ice with my bare hands and pulled my head above the water, gasping desperately for air. After I had enough air in my lungs to see properly, I felt my whole world crumble to pieces. Either I was dreaming, or I was dead because this wasn't possible.

I stared at the forest that surrounded me. The lake was frozen to ice, and my friends' corpses were frozen into it. The forest itself was covered in a thick layer of snow, and there were icicles hanging off of the leaves of the pine trees. There were no sounds coming from the forest anymore, and thick gray clouds took over the sky, threatening another layer of snow. I knew I had to get out of here. Now.

I pulled myself above the water and tested the strength of the ice. It was beginning to crack a little bit, and I decided to move slowly and crawl. I figured being spread out would help. I stopped when I met the lifeless eyes of Kiara. My heart broke. I wanted to cry, but I knew that I didn't have time to. My body was starting to freeze up with the water turning to ice. I took note of the fact that I was still shivering, which was good. I wasn't dead yet.

I'm soaking wet, in a windy place, and wearing hardly any clothes. I have maybe 3-7 minutes to live, and I need to move fast.

There was a paved road in the forest, so I followed it, shivering and gripping my arms together trying to preserve whatever body heat I had. My breath formed puffs of air in front of me, and my hair felt stiff. My teeth chattering and my footsteps were the only thing I could hear as I walked along the snowy paved road.

Further along the path streetlights had been placed. They were off right now, but began coming on more as I walked. God, it was freezing.

I refused to look at my body knowing that my fingers were probably turning purple. I was beginning to feel dizzy as the world around me seemed to go out of focus. I shook my head and moved faster, seeing light in the distance.

I tripped and slid across the asphalt, and I just wanted to lay there. But I had to keep going. I needed to. Something told me to push on, and I listened to it, gripping onto life.

Just as the water covering me began to freeze more, and as I could hardly move or feel my limbs anymore, I came to a town. The sky was completely dark now, and it had begun to snow again, but the town was well lit with street lights and lights from shops and homes. A bit of hope sparked in me as I continued and knocked on the door of the first lit shop I could see.

A woman with straight waist length pink hair came to the door. The lights from her shop reflected off of her blue eyes. She was taller than me by a few inches, and she looked down on me. She opened the door to her shop, allowing warm air to hit me. I quickly rushed in and tried to warm up.

We were in a small bakery with a few small tables near the windows outlooking the snowy town. The snow had picked up, allowing almost no visibility of the rest of the town. I looked back into the bakery, and at the display which held various cupcakes. The register sat on top, and the kitchen was back through a door behind the register. The air was warm, yet the smell was weird... I couldn't place it.

The woman handed me blankets and hot tea, and I drank it slowly, though I wanted to drink it fast. I layered up in the blankets, though I could slightly feel my frozen bathing suit. I felt very tired, and I just wanted to sleep. I couldn't feel my skin anymore.

"Who are you? I've never seen you before."

The woman's voice startles me out of my trance. I notice that my skin feels wet from the ice that had previously covered me. I could move my body aa bit more now.

I lift my eyes to meet hers and speak in a voice that sounds like it hasn't been used in weeks.

"(Y/N). I...I just got here I guess." My voice comes out slurred. I'm so tired.

"Why... exactly are you in a swimsuit?," she asks, motioning down towards my body.

I said something I couldn't understand. I don't know what I meant to say, but the last thing I remember is her saying "shit, I need to go get Jack."
